  1. http://www.lextreme.com/ TT it...The guy that runs this site is really cool. He's e-mailed me back a few times. The design is 100% his. I believe he's using Nissan Skyline turbos. Pretty gutsy for him to do this mod then he did his own R&D until he got it right. Wow! That's cool stuff... B)
  2. http://www.aaarims.com/specials/ls400.shtml This looks like some great prices. Look at the 17" chrome set with the Lexus emblem in gold. It looks like you could get 17" Kumho tires with rims for under $1,400... Not bad if you want to keep the stock look with chrome. I'll probably spend a little more and get 18" chrome TSW rims. My girlfriend put 18" TSW Heaven 7's on her Nissan 300ZX convertible and it looks great. This is stilll a option though... Great prices at this AAA Rims place.
  3. Do you need the 15" stock rims? I'm planning to put new rims on my '90 LS400 within the next few months so I may have some for ya. You're probably looking at $350 total (w/tires) + you pay shipping from me. They're not in great condition but they are straight and they are the stock LS400 wheels. You can see my car to the left as my avatar.
  4. Miles are low. Kind of fishy...What's the story on your car? What color? How much did you get her for?
  5. Hmmmm, that's cool. Thanks. Is that compressor a superchager? I wish I knew how to read that... Cool site.
  6. You or the previous owner(s) must of bottomed out over a curb or something?
  7. The background light(s) all the way to the right of my heat/fan/AC controls is burnt out. The one to the very left goes off and on. You can make it go on by tapping it sometimes. The one in the middle illuminates fine. Is it easy to replace these little lights? I assume it's a few small bulbs behind the control panel?
  8. I just want to be able to use the hands free speakerphone on the steering wheel with my Samsung camera phone. That is the only thing cool about that phone. When starting my car up, that loud tone from the old school phone is annoying....
  9. $1,249 for 30HP? What? That isn't worth it. I would rather pay for headers or do the twin turbo upgrade for a little more. The TT upgrade gives you over 100HP more> http://www.lextreme.com/TT-System.htm Thanks for the info....If it was around $500 then that would make sense... 10. You must put oil in your car or it will blow...! Hehe...just jokin'... I have a '91 LS400 shop manual. I'll look for ya...Gimme a few...
  11. Actually Trick Shift tranny fluid is real good. It's a little spendy but it's good. I had that stuff in my convertible Nissan 300ZX and it shifted crisp and I had no problems.
  12. Yep, same as me. Too much fluid by whoever serviced the car last time. Yeah, I think the kick down switch is faulty... Or maybe I need to do a few more tranny flushes to circulate out that old burnt fluid? I was suppose to go there today to do another tranny flush and refill. I hope he only charges me for the fluids? I haven't been able to drive it that much due to the starter going out. I've been driving my company car, a 2003 Chevy Impala. Not a bad car. I'm actually putting the Lexus in the shop next Tuesday to have the starter fixed. There is major labor getting to the starter. The mechanic at my local shop about a 1/4 mile up the street said that the contacts in the Lexus starters go bad eventually. I told him the symptoms and he said that is pretty common. My actual starter cranks fine when there is full power to the unit. He said there is metal contacts in the starter that wear, so when you try to crank it will not pass current all of the time. Sometimes the contacts will pass power to the starter when engaged and it'll start or it will just click. That's my problem. It'll cost me about $400 total parts and labor (mostly labor). That's better than the $700-800 quote from a few other shops. I actually got a $500 quote from a Start Mart, "alternator/starter specialist". The guys in the shop looked like they were all on CRANK. I don't want those tweaked out losers ruining my car. I heard Lexus dealers charge $1,600 for a new starter and labor in the service shop. What a joke! You also have to replace a few of your manifold intake gaskets since they have to disconnect them to get to the starter. It's a friggin' labor nightmare changing the starter in these cars. Thanks for asking...
  13. Yeah, too much is not good. When oil heats up it expands. If it has no where to expand then it burns. The mechanic said he could smell it when pulling off the pan. It must shorten the life of your tranny if you leave it overfilled? Too much heat is never good. Maybe the same company that makes the "wetter fluid" for radiator cooling makes the same for trannys? Low 8's from 0-60? Wow, that is great. Did you do the 1/4 mile at your local raceway? I wonder if these cars would do about 15 or 16 sec 1/4 miles? Check out this guy's LS400 Twin Turbo site> http://www.lextreme.com/
  14. Hehehe....But I could own a 1972 Ford Pinto free and clear... :snoooorrrtttt:
  15. Thanks UCF3... Here's the reply that I got back from United Radio, Inc.: Todd; We have a 12-disc Pioneer (remote control) trunk-mounted changer for $230 w/ 2 year warranty. We also have a 6-disc Pioneer (remote control) trunk-mounted changer for $175 w/ 1 year warranty. Please give me a call at 800-448-0944 if you have any questions. Regards, Bill Reichert Radio Sales United Radio, Inc., Automotive Division I looked in the trunk yesterday and I couldn't find anything. I didn't want to tear up the carpeting either. It would be on the right side. What would the plug look like? A female plug that is round, square, etc?
  16. Yeah, the two tone paint is annoying. I believe they were trying to copy the paint scheme of the Mercedes S class? Appearance wise it was good my 1990 LS400 was repainted otherwise I would of eventually did it myself. It was repainted to solid onyx black. Please see the pics in the gallery> http://us.lexusownersclub.com/gallery/LS?&page=2 I will be putting 18" chrome rims on the car next month. It should look pretty good. It will look like an expensive car. But I paid less than 8K total with rims.... Hehehe.... The best part....I own it free and clear with no CAR PAYMENT... That's what I really like...
  17. I drove it by a Lexus dealer who took a quick look at it (for Free!) and then pronounced it to have a trade-in value of $2000. The seller was asking $6900 for it. $2,000! What? I know the dealer always wants to steal the trade...but $2,000..? I would say more like $4,000 from a dealer... I'll buy cosemtic challenged early model LS400s for 2K site unseen all day. The Kelly Blue Book trade in is around 5K I believe?
  18. What's the average life of the stock transmission with normal driving habits? I guess that would be a driver from the mid 40's and up? Are these bullet proof trannys like the ones in VW's?
  19. http://www.speedfreaksspeedshop.com/en-us/...s/dept_966.html I found these JET ECU upgrades. It just doesn't seem very specific. It just says LEXUS (all models). Does anybody know of somebody that has used this?
  20. I think my kick down switch under the pedal is going out? Sometimes it shifts down and sometimes it doesn't when at WOT (pedal to floor). I can shift down to 2 and L manually with no problems.
  21. I just borrowed a Lexus '91 LS400 shop manual from my friend. He said they bought it at the dealership for $150 - 200. It's 2 really thick, big books. It should all be the same for my '90 or real close. It details everything. It's well worth the investment. It'll probably save you the money it cost the first time you have to troubleshoot?
  22. I have to go back in a week to drain and refill it again. It's because of the tranny fluid in the torque converter that needs to be flused through. I guess there is no way to drain the torque converter, just the fluid in the tranny at the pan? The car ran great today... Jeez, these rigs get up and go. It's kind of funny on how this luxury ride has balls like that. hehe...
  23. I just bought my '90 LS400 a week ago. I noticed that it didn't always shift down when taking off. It would stay in 2nd and shift up but it wouldn't shift down to 1st. I had my tranny serviced yesterday and the fluid levels were too high. I changed the filter, gasket and fluids. We noticed that the tranny fluid was burning a little too from the high level. Now it shifts like it should and I can use all the power.
  24. What kind of parts? Performance? Cosmetic? TSW makes excellent looking chrome rims that fit our LS400s. I'm wondering if there is a Jim Wolfe or Dinan ECU upgrade for the '90 LS400. I bet a chip would yield at least 25hp more. Maybe 50hp?
  25. There is full DIN aftermarket replacements I believe? I think I saw one at Car Toys? I don't think they there are any better thant the stock ones though. Mine works fine but I don't like the cassette player. Don't have any tapes! Does the stock Pioneer stereo have a hookup in the trunk for a changer? I just bought this car so I don't know....
