  1. Did you check to see that your emgergency brake was fully disengauged? Your dash light could be a bit faulty as the car gets older? The light could go off but the emergency pedal may not be all the way up? You may have to have the calipers readjusted out slightly? Wrong pads (too thick)?
  2. What year is the LS400? I assume it's between a '90-94 (gen 1)?
  3. Synths are twice + the cost of regular oil. We're Lexus owners, we're use to overpaying for the upkeep... :o I suppose you can go to Wal-Mart and have them put synth in your Lex. It would probably be about $30 there. Regular oil changes are about $16 at Wallys.
  4. He's a mechanic, I wonder why he said "he couldn't recommend it"? What a jack-!Removed! mechanic if he doesn't have an answer for his "educated statements". His polluted mind probably wants to convey that there would be no benefit of using synthetics after 9 years of using regular oil. I've read that you suppose to run a brand new car on regular oil for the first 5,000 miles during the break in period. Then you switch to synthetic. I believe you can switch to synthetic at anytime. 95% of all mechanics should be put to sleep.
  5. I would like to have a kit that has a pocket below the aftermarket system to store stuff. That's really useful.
  6. Yeah, that's a good idea. Not many people ride in the back of my car. It's usually 1 passenger in the front. Is it easy taking these handles off and putting them back on?
  7. They build those Tundra V8's into the drag cars that race on the circuit. They're awesome powerplants that build up to over 1000hp and they win a lot of drags with low times. These Toyota V8's are soo undertuned it's comical. That means if you change the oil and do all the general maintainence, the engine will last just about forever. Lexus is Toyota.
  8. The main reason why your bulbs burn out that fast is probably because you touched the bulbs with your fingers. That shortens the life of the bulb by 10 fold. The grease from your hands/fingers causes the bulb to burn out fast. You always change the bulbs with a paper towel or a light cloth. NEVER TOUCH THE BULB WITH YOUR BARE HANDS.
  9. Your LS looks really clean. The pics need more color though...They look kind of blueish.
  10. Where did you get the dash kit for the aftermarket stereo? I asked a Circuit City guy a few weeks ago and he said they didn't have the dash kits for the LS400. I haven't really checked around that much though. I have the crappy Pioneer system that sounds mediocre at best.
  11. That's a good idea. Did you get them from a Camry? Any Toyota? Including trucks, 4-Runners, Corrollas?
  12. My passenger side handle use to kind of stick up when opening the door sometimes. I sprayed some silicone up in there and now it doesn't stick up. It's still got a sticking point when opening the door but it goes back down now. I wish I could fix it. Is this common?
  13. If you replaced the water pump then you're good to go. Maybe a full tank of gas? :snoooorrrtttt:
  14. NGK plugs in all of my vehicles (Lexus & Suzuki GSXR) except my '87 Ford Truck and boat. NGK makes the best plug on earth. It's worth the $. I'm putting NGK's in my boat this weekend. I don't care about the old truck's plugs. Don't drive it enough. It's for pulling the boat and hauling stuff.
  15. I would say no water was flowing thru the block or it did very slowly (as water leaked out of the bad pump) when your pump went out. Water pumps have a release valve that lets the water flow out a little hole when the pump goes bad. I think this is so there is still some kind of flow by the pressure release? I'm not a mechanic. You were probably on the freeway so you were getting forced air cooling through the grill. Did your temp gauge go abnormally high? The needle shouldn't be any further than half way up the gauge. If you were in slow traffic or stopped in a city, your car would of heated up real fast and you would cracked your block. Good to hear that everything is good now after replacing the pump. I'm sure your car is fine. Look at your tailpipes after the car is warmed up. If you see excessive steam, that's not good.
  16. Get the color code from under your hood or in the door jam. Take that code to a auto paint store and have them mix you the correct pearl white. I did that on my past 300ZX and it matched fine with deep cherry red.
  17. Excellent Shelley. You guys got a great deal... What did you spend the 15 hun on the Lexus for? I've put about $700 into mine so far. Not too bad. It runs great now. Jeez, it's a Toyota. It'll outlive me probably?
  18. I wonder if the lights in that eBay dash illumintate all of the needles? The gauges may work but people have more problems with the burned out needle lights.
  19. Thanks BG Lex. :D Did you put pics of your ride in the gallery too? Oh yeah, it was 134A I saw. FYI to everbody with the 134A system. A liquidation store called "Big Lots" up here in the Seattle area is selling bottles of the 134A for about $4 and the recharge tool (hookup with brass looking hose) for $5.95. It looks pretty easy to do and that's cheap as heck. You can recharge your A/C as much as you want at that price... Stop paying the garage $50 - $100 for a simple recharge. So nobody can sell R12 to recharge our older A/C systems? Is R12 basically refrigerant freon? Or was that the next chemical coolant after freon?
  20. You must of been racing at higher speeds to keep up anywhere close to a NSX. Who was ahead and how far? What kind of ticket did you get and how much $?
  21. I noticed a recharge kit today in a store for 135A I believe? Does the '90 LS400 use the old school freon? I know the older systems can be converted to the newer A/C systems. I know a shop across the state in my girlfriend's old college (WSU) town that would do the conversion for $100 with recharge. It's 300 miles away though...
  22. I noticed the battery was bulging out on the sides a little when I bought this car a few months ago. It was near the end of it's warranty so I went to NAPA and took it back and paid the difference for a new battery. I pretty much paid for a new one. The battery is good. Maybe this is the wrong battery for the car? I replaced the same one the owner had in there. I know this car was in Guam for about 4 years. The previous owner was in the military. I can't imagine the alternator going out again? I drove the car today and it didn't do it this time. Doesn't the power steering fluid leak ontop of the alternator with these cars? I thought I read that somewhere? I need to check that I suppose...
  23. The last few times I've driven my car I noticed that these lights stay on in my dash until I rev the car up or drive it. This is after the car has sit overnight or for a few days. The alternator was changed out last year so I know that's good. The lights don't dim and there doesn't seem to be low electrical power (i.e. dimming of lights, slow electric windows, etc.). After they go away everything seems normal. I can stop and start the car in the same day and they stay on for the first few seconds as normal. The car runs great and there seems to be no loss of acceleration or anything else. I wonder what's going on here? Any help? BTW, I released my emergency brake. I may be dumb but....... Hehe ;) *That would be "Battery", not Batter....
  24. What major type of work have you done on it since you've owned it. How long (since what mileage?) have you owned your LS400?
  25. This is mostly a retail site. It's been around for awhile. It isn't too exciting. The forum is not near as good as this one...
