  1. No, it's most likley the starter. I just bought a '90 LS400 last week and the previous owner told me the starter was going out. It's located down by the exhaust manifold intake. There's a lot of labor involved. You are going to get $500 - 800 quotes parts & labor. I found a Lexus mechanic in my area that will do it for me on the weekend at his place. With starter, I'll still pay around $400. Have other things replaced when doing that job since there is a lot of other things to take off while getting to the starter.
  2. Yeah, I just looked at that speaker yesterday when in the trunk. There's a Radio Shack speaker in mine that was a replacement by the previous owner. I've only had this car a week. It sounds ok and puts out a little bass. I would read the dimensions off the old one and order a better quality one online somewhere. If you want a cheap quick fix, go to the Rat Shack I guess?
  3. Is there an aftermarket computer chip (Dinan?) for my '90 LS400? If so, how much more horsepower do you get?
  4. I know...I'm getting my starter replaced in a few weeks. I'm going to have all kinds of other things done well in there. Maybe get the injectors cleaned and replace the intake manifold gaskets. Always have other work around it done since the labor is minimal to none. You just pay for parts. I like to go buy my own parts anyway then bring them with me the day I'm having the other work done. It wasn't a battery drain. It's just my starter acting up in the morning. It's slowly going out. Once I get it started it doesn't give me problems starting and restarting for the rest of the day.
  5. Can you get me the Lexus plastic covering only? The key and the remote work great. The previous owner cracked the loop on the key cover so I can loop it into my key chain. Please e-mail me at toddnaz@hotmail.com Thanks.
  6. Actually I beleive it's the starter. The owner sold me this car for a good price and he disclosed the starter was going out. It seems when the car sits for a longer period of time (5 hours+?) it doesn't want to start. I have to keep turning the key back an forth about 2/3's of the way until the starter kicks. Once I start the car for the day and keep driving it, the cars seems to start without a problem. I know I'm in for some hefty labor on changing out the starter. I already checked. I think it's like 3.5 hours labor? Jeez! ;)
  7. It seems like I'm getting a battery drain overnight? I just bought this car a week ago so I'm starting to figure out the kinks. I don't see any light on in the interior or anything. I just put in a new battery last Saturday. I woke up this morning and I had to put it on the charger to get it to start. Where would be a common place that would drain power? The car runs good aside from that. I NEED HELP....I don't want to be the jumper cable guy in the parking lot. :chairshot: :snoooorrrtttt:

  9. I know these Q5's will fit the Lex... Pretty nice....
  10. Since we're on the topic. I have both keys with the keyless entry. The keyless entry key has the plastic broken that loops it onto your key chain. Does anybody know of a place to get a replacement cover? The key and the keyless entry work fine. It's just that plastic case with the L symbol that is broke at the top so I can't loop it into my key chain.
  11. That phone is OLD SCHOOL! There might as well be a brick phone in the glove... hehehe... I don't like the power on tone that blares when putting the key in the ignition. I just wish I could use the speaker phone option with my digital Samsung phone. That would be cool.
  12. My buddy had 18" chrome TSW Trophy rims on his previous '91 LS400 and they looked great. I am actually looking to put 20" chrome rims on my '90 black LS400. I haven't searched yet on the fit. I will probably end up putting on 18" chrome rims though. I would really go to the http://www.tsw.com/new/index.php website and see what you like. I think TSW makes the best rims. My girlfriend just put 18" Heaven 7's on her '93 300ZX convertible and they look AWESOME. If they don't clear the calipers you can get spacers. Not always the best solution but I had them on my '91 300ZX for years.
  13. I just bought my first Lexus LS400 a week ago Sunday from a private seller. Yee-haw! I love these cars. My friend use to have a '91 LS400 who turned me onto these fabulous cars. They ride like a dream. I'll try to attach a photo that I took this weekend. I hope you can see it. It was repainted about a year ago to solid black. It's a 1990 and it has 131K miles on it. I bought the car pretty cheap because it needs a little mechanical work. It's as good as it gets appearance wise for a '90. Great paint and excellent interior with the leather in great shape. First it needs to have a new starter replaced but it still works. Sometimes I have to try a few times then it turns over. I usually have to do that when I haven't drove it for awhile like in the morning. Yeah, I know it's labor intesive. I have a guy that's a Lexus mechanic that will do it for $150 + parts out of his garage. I think most garages are quoting from $500 - $800 w/parts. Probably more like $800... I wonder if there is any do-it-yourself guides on the net that would help. I did a lot of work on my Nissan 300ZX and a lot of people told me it was too hard. It takes a little getting use to due to the cramped space but it was managable. That would be nice to work on my own car if possible. If not, I will pay the piper. It seems to run fine aside from this auto shifting mystery. It seems to shift right for the first 15-20 min's. Then after warming up, it sometims will not shift down when accelerating from a stop or a slow speed. Yes, I have overdrive off and the ECT power on. It accelerates good but it doesn't kick down into 1st or second. It feels like it's in 3rd or 4th because I don't see the RPMs kick up like they should when stomping on the gas. I was told by another Lexus home mechanic guy that it may need to have the tranny serviced due to clogged tranny line filter(s) or low tranny fluids. It may have never had it's tranny serviced yet? That sounds right but is this the symptoms? The tranny doesn't slip or anything. I had a auto tranny go out on my '91 Nissan 300ZX last year and I know what that feels like. It starts slipping here and there then it gets worse real fast. I live in the Seattle/Bellevue area if anybody knows of any good Lexus resources (mechanics and Lexus wrecking yards) out here. Thanks. :)
