  1. So far, my 92LS400 (176k miles) Climate control and radio LCD hasn't turned black yet (KNOCK ON WOOD) My Instrument Cluster hasn't blackened yet. The only thing in my cluster is the very very very TIPS of the needle crapped out... but other than that... the whole cluster is bright like the day i first got it. My P/S pump just CRAPPED out like 1k ago or less. So not so bad. My baby is starting to show some signs of problems considering i never knew anything about cars until i found LOC. I never knew there were O2 sensors... or even knew O2 sensors EXISTED. Heck they r still on original O2's, T-belt, and just about everything. The only thing i changed regularly was engine OIL. I posted this last time... but recently i just changed my TRANNY FLUID @ 176K. My car still runs smooth. I'm proud of my baby... n i love her . Just needs to go into some serious surgery soon though :( :cries: . NO $$$$ **SIGH** But i guess it depends on the individual car. How you treat it. The Climate will play some role too. N i suppose on plain luck too. I think i'm pretty lucky with my car that i haven't received sooo many problems "YET." I hope i never will.
  2. Not sure about how much it would be worth. But I presume it might be over 5k + wutever Kelly or edmunds would put ur car's worth. If it has a rebuilt engine possibly even more ;) But Lexus engine's seldom break down if it's taken care of. Even a local junk yard told me when i asked him about Tranny's n engine's... he told me... "WHY WOULD YOU EVEN BE SEARCHING FOR A LS TRANNY N ENGINE?!?!??! THEY NEVER EVEN BREAK DOWN!?!?!?!" That was his exact words to me. he even goes on telling me that he has a lexus tranny and engine and it's been sitting there forever. He told me he'd sell it to me dirt cheap because he can't get rid of it. My lil sister drives a 93 Maxima and everyone know's their Tranny's are horrible. Well anyways, are you going to change your exhaust pipes??!?! Hahaha... i'll buy a certain piece off of you if you do :whistles: I can't seem to find it. I guess i'll check the local junkyards when i head back to NYC. It's some sort of Y SHAPE pipe. I don't remember the number. :cries: But if u do sell them... PM me. B)
  3. like wut Lexls said... check out his site. It covers an extensive DIY. Some i wouldn't dare to touch, but you might. Also, you might want to check some of the tutorials that 92lex (drunk squarrel guy :P ;) ) did. He did quite a few too in this club. You can find 92Lex's tutorials @ the main page and if you scroll close to the bottm there is a section called Tutorials. If you don't want to DIY, i would suggest the next best thing is bringing to a Toyota Dealer. They can get the work done for a fraction of the price of going to Lexus unless your well off. But judging by what you stated, your going to be like almost everyone of us, not willing to pay the big $$$$ for a over charged mechanic for your car. But generally of course the service is good. So you'd rather DIY or bring to a Toyota Dealer or bring to a mechanic you can trust. Good luck with your car and your driving with class now. Enjoy it. B)
  4. Do 92 models have brake sensors? I've yet to see a brake light come on for my car. The only brake light i've seen is for the Emergency Brakes.
  5. I just went into ADVANCED AUTO PARTS here in Plattsburgh and they have REMANUFACTURED OEM CV SHAFT!!! They have one in stock and the other one they will order. They will charge me $65 for it with a $70 core charge. Now i'll just have to find a mechanic that will install it. This is a 2 1/2 hr job right? So for 2 shafts the total is 5hrs. So all in all if i find a mechanic for $55/hr then my whole cost for both shafts will be $405. I guess thats heck of a better deal than Toyota. N way better than going to Sears and Honda using a Aftermarket part for nearly the same price. I think if i go to Sears and Honda, it would only be cheaper by $25. But i guess i will have a peace of mind using Remanufactured OEM piece now. I'll keep u guys updated. Thanks all B)
  6. Sounds like you covered a lot. I would like to have done everyone of this on my car. But i don't even have $5,000 to put down let alone $1,000. Did you DIY or did you bring it to Lexus, Toyota, or outside mechanic to have all of this done? Would you like to trade your newer part lexus for my old beat up lexus?!?!? :chairshot: HAHAHAHA... j/k j/k Congrats hope all goes well with your baby.
  7. I remember reading about this problem a couple of weeks to couple of months ago about this guy having similiar problems on the highway. He also had his wheels recently balanced. He didn't think it could be the balance again. But it did turn out that one of the weights came off so all he had to do was bring it back... n they put the weights back on n PROBLEM SOLVED. So try that first and see if the weights might have comed off. Good Luck
  8. Good point SK. Well, I do remember SEARS guy told me that my ES's rear sway bar has worn away. When i talked to the Toyo guy over the phone... he told me he doesn't think the SWAY bars can get worned out. He said perhaps it's the links. But either way, they said they can make noise... but it's more of a loud thud or clunk noise. It's not the same as the click click click. LOL. But i also read somewhere on this forum that a certain bar... i forgot the name... is it the bushings? I will try to find it later... can also make a clunk noise too rite? Oh wellz. Either way, need to change the boots.... or perhaps the shaft. We'll c. I hope Seacreek got all this good info down since he was the one who originally posted this .
  9. i never personally done this... but i believe i read somewhere on this forum that the code is your vin number. :whistles: But don't tell the thieves that ok If you go through a couple of older posts or search for it, i'm sure you can pull it up. Best of luck. hope it works. B)
  10. well i do hear it driving straight. But it's not loud. It's very soft. But regardless... i think it's bad and needs to be changed. It has been raining here all week. I only hear it if i stick my head out. Is there any other sounds that would produce that clicking noise?
  11. I definitely don't have it. :cries: I know wut u mean about looking inside the car for those switches. Cause my dad has it in his. N i like playing with the height adjustor on his too. *SIGH* I think my dad bought the lowest model of the LS400. But i'm happy... it's still my baby... n i love it. B)
  12. i agree with everything the other guys posted... but just like to remind you too... even if you sell this car, and you buy a newer generation lexus say a Gen 2 that has only 72K - 120k, you are eventually going to have to put in money on possibly new P/S pump, T-Belt, Water Pump, Blacked Out LCD, etc. So all in all, if you do get another car... make sure it has a good upkeep... but that means it will be more $$$$. Either way, even with a good upkeep, time, corrosion, etc. will eat away at some of the faults of the car. Since you live in MD, you might want to search for a car that hasn't seen that much snow. Living up here, i can tell you, salty roads and not washing the undercarriage of your car can mean nasty things for your car. Just check a little south if you want. But MD doesn't snow that much, so i guess you don't have to worry too much looking for a car near you... just look for a good conditioned one. Good Luck B)
  13. Well my g/f's vehicle is slightly making some noise. You can hear a slight click click click noise. But it's not loud nor noticeable. The only reason y i heard it was when my g/f was driving... i stuck my head out... just to see if i could hear anything... b/c i remember the mechanic had told me it ripped... and sure enough i hear a very very low click click click sound n plus it had been raining all week. So is it reuseable? Or should i replace it? Where can i or what company can i get a REMANUFACTURED OEM Shafts? R they going to be just as costly as brand new ones? **SIGH** i wish i had a money tree growing in my room :cries:
  14. My car doesn't lower when i'm hitting the highway :cries: . I'm pretty sure it doens't have Air Suspension In my hood... i don't have that extra black thing that i saw @ a friends car *SIGH.* The only thing i notice is that the steering wheel gets stiffer on the highway than local streets. NOW I WANT AIR SUSPENSION B)
  15. Roger that. Thanks for the info. I will see about searching @ Advanced Auto Parts, Autozone, and Napa first and inquiring about it more. Thanks for all the responses guys. Tom
  16. well for the CV Shaft... does it matter if i get an OEM or aftermarket? It's not going to be a huge difference right? Does it effect the ride @ all? Thanks for all ur comments and imputs.
  17. actually i was going to post a very similiar question too. So i guess thanks Seacreek. Well for one, you can check how much Toyota is going to charge you. Cause the service charge is way different on both. They both will get the same parts. Now my question was... my toyota dealer was going to charge me to only change the boots for $444.00 around there... it may be around 430.00 i forgot for both. But thats just to pack it back with grease and put new boots on. Now Sears auto was going to change the whole CV SHAFT for $120-150 each for the shaft plus about $75 each for the labor. The Honda dealer was going to do the same for the CV Shaft but i think total would be cheaper than Sears by about 20-30 dollars. But of course, they both are not going to use OEM whereas toyota will... but i'm only getting the boots rather than the shaft if i go with toyota. So what are your opinions on my questions and Sea Creeks question.
  18. Hahahaha blake definitely has it down. Since both of us own a LS and an ES. As for me, i just left you a post in the ES forum so i'll just repost it here just in case. What i wrote in the ES forum is basically what blake wrote... but he went into more details. But either way, it all boils down to personal choice. The LS400 is definitely PITA (Pain In The A$$) since everything is sooooo TIGHT. Unlike the ES everything is sooo nicely spread out. ok this is wut i wrote in the ES forum: Hey and welcome to the club. This decision is all about personal choice. If you can, see if you can test drive all of them. I am a little biased. I love my 92 LS400. :P My g/f just drove my LS for the first time 20 min's ago... n she was yelling @ me saying how much different it is from her 92 ES300 n she likes how it handles.:whistles: However, to her, my LS is a BOAT . It's pretty big for her. Every one of those cars will have their pro's and cons. I know for a fact that i pay a LOT more in gas money for my LS400. Even mechanic bills are more expensive than my g/f's. There are a lot of factors you have to weigh in. The luxury factor is different in all the cars. My car feels a lot more lighter in the steering wheel and the shocks seem to feel like it floats. However, my LS400 SUXS big time in the winter since its rear wheel drive whereas my g/f's is Front i believe. I love the power i feel in my car. My lil sister's b/f just bought a 92 SC400... so turkey day i can tell u how they all feel. The SC is probably more of a sportier feel to it. I've yet driven a legend, but i've been in a 92 legend before... but i forgot how the ride was since it was a while ago... hahaha sorrie :chairshot: Since you live in NJ, i'm sure you can find a great LS in NYC or the surrounding cities in NJ. I'm sure there's bound to be a great LS with all its service records. O and just to note something, if you find a car in NYC, you might want to find out if the ball joint is still ok... cause there r sooo many potholes there and its expen$ive to change it. Hahaha most likely you won't have to worrie about it. Good luck B)

  20. Thanks Army, I will give that a try too. I'll let u know if i do anything. I might have to wait till next week to work on the hood. Thanks for the feedback guys.
  21. Welcome to LOC. Like what 99LSGUY said, check out: www.lexls.com This website has an extensive tutorial and perhaps some mods for LS400. He has a first Gen LS like you n I, so you'll find the site especially helpful. This is the website for your fuel filter. http://www.lexls.com/fuelfilter.html Also if you go to the main page... there is a section. It's called Tutorials. You might find some info there too. 92Lex has done some tutorials there. I get a kick seeing that squirel. HAHAHAHA B) N yup, i agree with you on the exhaust part. Especially the one i'm looking for. They are very hard to get. Even a local mechanic here (Monroe Brakes & Mufflers) has a hard to getting it. I guess the only way to get them is either at a junkyard or @ Toyota or Lexus. :chairshot:
  22. i wouldn't know... i never drove it. But i might on Turkey Day. I'll probably take my sister b/f's SC400 for a spin
  23. Lexls I love your site. On a longer break, maybe turkey day... i wil definitely be using your site to help do some stuff on my car... n perhaps will find it useful on my sister b/f's SC400 too. Thanks for answering all my emails If i figure anything out, i'll be sure to let you know, but knowing me, i would not dare to touch anything in that car without knowing a ton of knowledge first n pictures pointing to every milk and cranny i need.
  24. Ironworker, since you cleaned it, i'm not sure if this would help... but don't forget to leave one of the terminal on your battery out to try to reset it. I usually leave it out for either 1 hr (i know you don't necessarily have to leave it that long) or i just leave it out for the whole night n go to bed... n wake up in the morning n put it back in. It should reset your computer. Which tutorial r u looking for?
  25. SK... No wreckers here in Plattsburgh though. Well at least not for Lexus's. There r barely any. Even the toyota dealer here said i was the only LS400 he's seen. I know from the past there r 2 including me... but now i think i'm the only one left. But back to the ES300, i think including my g/f's there is a total of 6. There is only one new 03 or 04 model here. But all the others r older. But i think they r all acounted for... so no luck finding it in the junk yard. I suppose when i go back to NYC for Turkey day i can look @ the junk yard. Or perhaps i can make an excuse to go to Toronto... ROADTRIP! Since i'm probably 6 hrs away. I've been wanting to go to Toronto n e wayz. I wonder if Montreal has n e junk yards... but i don't speak french. Thanks for the idea guys. Im still searching the site that StevieJ sent me. I'll give some of those wreckers a call tomorrow or monday. I'll also look into the foam... or brace... or maybe both for a low cost method... hehehe.
