  1. Tom...Does that get in the way of anything... ie. the glove box...or the passenger. I went ahead and ordered a Pro-fit mount. I hope it does good. Where did you place the antena. Thx
  2. Typically most of the used speakers you find are going to have one foot in the grave. And when you start buying different 4" speakers (like I did) they just dont sound right. Not quite sure why, but anyway... You ought to just have them reconed. $20 each. I'm having mine done now. I'll let you know how it comes out.
  3. About four years ago I had an Acura Legend. Over the years it had become increasingly sluggish, etc. I spoke with an Acura mechanic who recommended unplugging the negative battery terminal overnight. He said that it sort of refreshed or rebooted the brain of the car. I was pleased to find that it did improve the way the car performed. Have you all ever heard of doing this with the SC400. I wasnt sure if that was just something unique to the Acura or if this would be beneficial to all cars. Could this do any harm to the SC400?
  4. I guess newer is cool. As long as its an SC400. I believe it still makes the top ten list of the best production cars ever built. I've driven a lot of newer cars that just feel like *BLEEP*. The next model I move to will be an SC430... in the year 2010..lol
  5. Bought a full set from www.leatherseats.com. They look real nice. They are little thicker than the original, which I actually like. The leather is more like on a couch. Havent put them on yet though.
  6. SCToy... If you like synthetics you ought to try Amsoil Series 2000 0W30 Severe Service motor oil.
  7. I agree... Mobile One anything is a joke. Poor Corvette owners..lol. Supposedly, if they use anything other than that it voids their warranty.
  8. For those of you who have SC400's or LS400 over 150k, have you ever had to mess with valves? What about different sensors. It just sort of scares me to look in the engine compartment and see it littered with what appear to be sensors. It's amazing these things keep running so dependably with such a large margin for error.
  9. You can pull the speakers and test them individually. Of the four speakers I pulled from my car and the one aquired from another SC, two of them didnt respond to electrical current. So, it's not all that uncommon for these to go dead. I'd do that before pulling the amp. The guy that is re-coning mine said that usually a wire comes loose causing them to die. He's going to try to reconnect these. We'll see.
  10. I've seen a lot of wood kits for the console and dash, but does anyone know of a company who produces aftermarket SC400 automatic gear shifters, emergency brake handles, etc. I saw that one company in Australia, but they only produce them for the right-handed UK stlye Soarer interior. Surely there has to be someone here that's into that. Any pics?? THX
  11. My tranny runs fine. Are you saying that the Amsoil will likely cause my tranny to start slipping later or something? Wouldnt that be something I would recognize from the get-go?
  12. You can get those 4" Nakamichis re-coned. I wouldnt recommend changing brands if you arent very fimiliar with compatibility of speakers. I thought a 4" was basically a 4", but found out the hard way. I recently replaced all of my Naks with 4" Kenwood KFC-1079ie 's. They SUCK!! They hiss... sound so cheap. I'm having my old Naks re-coned as we speak. Should get them back in a week or so, as he had to order more 4" cones. You may want to wait and see how mine come out. From what I've heard the speakers should be fine other than the foam breaking up from years of heat and just old age. The guy is charging me $20 each. It's worth a try. I'm sure he would service yours through the mail, if you wanted. From what I've heard he really knows what he's doing. He definately had tons of business when I dropped mine off. He was busy re-coning one while talking to me. His primary business is larger concert amps. He's been doing this day in day out for decades. Let me know if you want his number. Dont have it on me at the moment.
  13. Amsoil ATF runs $7.80 per quart and worth it. Do you think Lexus might want you to buy a new car some day?..lol. I also like their 0W30 2000 Series Severe Service motor oil. Start-up wear protection is unmatched. Also it really seemed to clean up my friends motor. Leaves no gunk behind like non-synthetic. It will actually remove it over the changes...especially the first two. Comes out black. Amsoil rocks!!
  14. I've got a set of Tokico blues on it.
  15. I agree. Amsoil is not an equivalent. It's far superior. Synthetics are the future.
  16. I thought SCs and Soarers were interchangable..... OH yea nevermind...I forgot.. You freaks all drive on the wrong side of the street... lol
  17. Go with Brembos drilled, not slotted, with Rotex Gold pads...nice!! They really arent all that expensive. My front Brembos ran $140.00. Front Rotex pads were $55.00.
  18. I ordered a front pair of Brembo cross-drilled rotors from a Canadian company on Ebay (Night's Auto...I think). About three days ago my rotors arrived but they were not Brembo. They were some brand called Magnums. I thought, "oh no!...here we go!" I called the company and after being on hold for about twenty minutes the guy came back on and apologized continually and promised to ship out the Brembos that day. He didnt seem too concerned about getting the other rotors back as he said he would send UPS for them at some later date. I dont think you really have to worry about getting fake Brembos. If the edge of the rotor says Brembo.. it's Brembo. There is a far greater universal market for something like a fake Rolex, so that is why they exsist. For just hard daily driving I wouldnt advise you getting slotted rotors. They really eat-up your pads for no good reason. Slotted rotors are really for heavy course use where you actually need the pads to be scraped to remove the damaged pad material that results from extended periods of intense heat faced during racing. For heavy street use, I would go with drilled only. This gives you the improved heat dissipation that is sufficient for street. I'll let you know if my Brembos come and how they work. I'm going to run a set of Rotex metallic pads. We'll see.
  19. I use Amsoil synthetic. Mail order only. www.amsoil.com
  20. Yea.. I noticed a definite difference after the second dose... back-to-back. I dont think one would have done it. Three wouldnt hurt.
  21. On Scenic Hwy 61 South, just north of Port Gibson, I got my SC400 up to 140mph. I had made my mind up to hit the reported ceiling speed of 150mph, but just couldnt do it. After 135mph my heart was racing so hard as the road seemed to narrow and the passing green countryside began to smear. Then a little voice inside my head said what if a wheel comes off or something?... That extra 10 mph gets emotionally hard to reach especially if you have reasons to live... kids, wife, etc.. The car handeled great though.
  22. I had that same "clacking" sound when I would punch my SC400 a few months back. It started to get pretty bad and would occur at the top of each gear. I took someone's advice on here and used two back to back treatments of Techron (from Chevron) and the problem disappeared. I just thought that stuff was hipe. I couldnt believe it. I guess that sh#t works. I actually filled the tank with 10 gallons when it said to use 12. I figured there would be some kind of reserve in the tank. I wanted to make sure it was good and concentrated. I will be using the treatment every 3000k from now on.
  23. Has anyone here installed XM Satelite Radio into their SC400? If so how was it mounted? Are you happy with it? Thx
  24. What was the model number for these 4" Nakamichis? Thx
  25. I just love the more refined and silky feel of the SC400. Up until 98' the brakes on the SC400 were bigger. I might go for an SC300 if it were a stick shift. The 300 definately has more engine compartment room to easily add mods. I'd go with the SC400. I love mine as a road trip cruiser so for your application it seems great. And... at 150mph you can sure put a dent in that commute...lol :D
