  1. I really like the lowered look also. What are the specs on the drop. 1"? thx
  2. Has anyone here lowered their SC400 1". If so, are you happy with it and can you send a pic. What brand are your springs? THX
  3. Sorry.. That website was www.tmengineering.net .
  4. First off, you sure picked a money pit for your first car. Older SC400's and other Lexus' are great cars but when *BLEEP* goes wrong...$$$$. Good luck. For your steering problem you will more than likely need to replace the lower control arm bushings and get a good 4-wheel alignment. You may need to replace the shocks and tires depending on what damage they have incurred due to this problem. The dealer will tell you that they only sell the whole control arm for like $600.00 each but www.tmengineering.com will have just the bushings for like $100.00 for both sides. I had a mechanic put them on for $180.00 labor only.
  5. It's going to be something on the car end. You said that the key is working, but how do you know that a signal is leaving the key if it hasn't unlocked the doors? I've noticed my remote range getting shorter and shorter, year after year. Even with new batteries. Let me know if you find the prob, as I will likely be there soon. Can you contact the previous owner. They may have already had it checked out and just didnt care to fix it.
  6. This link showed me how to get the rear out. http://carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalLexusSC400RSpk.htm
  7. You may want to check all of your speakers. I pulled the back seat out of my SC400 to replace the passenger-side 4" deck speaker and found that my other one was completely gone as well. It didnt even sound bad....very strange. That then made me think that I ought to check the front as well. They were both blown too. The funny thing is that until the rear passenger started buzzing, I had no idea. I just replaced them with some Kenwood KFC-1079ie speakers and am not real happy. I think my blown Naks sounded a little better...lol.
  8. Even thought he battery is new, you should consider replacing that as well. Going through all the charging and being run dead so many times really damages a battery. That's probably why it wont take a charge anymore.
  9. I have the same car and got my replacement at Eckerds Drug Store for like two bucks. Energizer CR1216 / 3 volt.
  10. I thought the 93' SC400 had 4 O2's. Is it three or four?
  11. I went on to Denso's site in an attempt to figure out which O2's were for my car. When I plugged in all the vehicle information they gave me the following part numbers. -Both fronts #234-4211 or Universal #234-4000 -Left rear #234-4619 or Universal #234-4000 -Right rear #234-4619 or Universal #234-4000 I'm confused. How can they give me different part numbers then say that there is a universal? And why do they specify the rear as left and right when they have the same part number? Why didnt they just describe the rear like they did the fronts? Has anyone replaced all the O2 sensors and do they have a good source for these? Thx
  12. I found the problem. I have worn lower control arm bushings. Ordering a set from TM Engineering. Should fix the prob. That explains the clunk sound I've had when driving over even small seams in the road or entering driveways. I shocks feel a bit spongy too. I may even slap on a set of Blues. Thx.
  13. You still use the factory phone? Isnt that analogue? You can still find service for that? I have a handsfree in my car... Never thought to hook it up.
  14. I just turned 125k. Oh, I baby my car until it reaches mid temp. I know that nothing tears-up an engine like gunning-it cold. This bucking and hesitation occurs at like 1800 rmp / 25 mph. I'm thinking an O2 might be about to die on me. Thats always fun.
  15. I'm using premium Chevron. I can remember the octane. I thought it was like 91. I check. How does the age effect pre-ignition? Thx
  16. You need to find a good independent shop. The dealer deals in snobbery and robbery...lol. "Mr. Whoever, Your oil change has been completed..and that will be uhmmm... $80.00 bucks. But, hey they do wash your car and have complementary Colombian Lattes. Not to say there arent bad independants. Maybe someone in here is from the Atlanta area and can recommend someone. DOWN WITH THE DEALER!!!!!!!!
  17. When I flip on my A/C I get a slight vibration or roughness that I can feel especially in my pedals. Then sometimes it won't vibrate at all. Is this pretty typical of other SCs? Thx
  18. When cold, my SC400 seems to hesitate and buck slightly. About three blocks down the road the problem goes away. I really wouldnt worry so much about this but I'm worried it will get worse and might be affecting my overall performance and I'm just not noticing it. Does this problem sound fimiliar to anyone. Thx
  19. I had a set of Dunlop S5000 Z rated tires. They were sort of loud as I think alot of the super performance tires are. I decided to go for more of a sport/ touring hybrid and just bought a set of Michelen Energy MXV4's. I read up on these tires before I bought them and noticed that alot of people bitched about cornering performance, but all agreed that they were very smooth riding. Seeing that they were still rated for 150mph, I decided to try a set. I have been pleasantly surprised with the smooth ride as well as the unexpected performance... that people said I wouldnt be getting. I think the handling of these tires are very comparable to the Dunlop S5000. Maybe slightly more roll on cornering but nothing out of control. I like driving my car on road trips... on the highway, so I decided to go for a smoother ride and these gave my car that Lexus silkiness again. They might look a little strange on the car at first, as I was dissapointed when I first saw them mounted. But after a few days of breaking them in, I'm convinced that the side walls kind of "squooshed-down" slightly... like they underwent a breaking-in process. Bottom line, I really like them. I also like the 50k mi rating guarantee that came with them. Seeing that I only got about 15k off of my Z rated Dunlops. Keep in mind that no-one will give you a mileage guarantee on Z- rated tires. And SC400 are notorious for burning through the rubber. These cost me $135.00 each from Discount Tire. C-ya.
  20. Oh man!!.. Thanks.. Gary. I would have never thought that the whole panel comes off. I knew it didnt feel right. Thanks again.
  21. I'm trying to replace my Nak speaker that's on the panel, behind the back seat. I first tried to pop it off with my hands. Feeling like I was about to tear something up I then went into the trunk and pulled down the access panel to view underneath the speakers. I dont see any special fastener holding the cover on. I just see four welded nuts with screws/bolts coming down from up-top. This leads me to believe that the covers are supposed to just pop off from the top. I then got a screwdriver a decided to try to slip it under the edge and twist. When doing this I hear a tearing sound. Should I just go with this or am I missing something? Thx
  22. My car runs fine, but recently I'm hearing more clattering of valves when shifting from 1st to 2nd, under semi-hard acceleration. Is this common among SC400's with 124k? Am I working towards a major repair? Thx
  23. Thermostats are also one of those cheap parts that has been known to be defective right off the shelf. It only takes a couple of minutes to fire up a pot of water. Drop in the thermostat and track the water temp with an inserted thermometer. Make sure it opens when its supposed to. Then again, if you have a sound coming from around the water pump it may be shot. But usually when a water pump goes, it really goes... as in water on the pavement. Also, you are due for a timing belt change and with that they change the water pump. If you choose to do this make sure that the mechanic changes out the cam seals as well. $1,400.00 (dealer) $750.00 (independant)... ouch!!.... or you could always do it yourself.
  24. Maybe we could all take turns joy riding in Seans 430!!.. lol
  25. Westchase here... But yea... what would we do..lol. Mine is just a daily driver 93' SC400.
