  1. What model number are they? So they fit perfectly.. no modification? Thx
  2. I use J.C.'s Auto Tech at 4004 Osage 77063. 832-283-7374. J.C. used to work for Japanese Auto Repair on Richmond where he was the head mechanic for like 10 years or so. Recently he split off to start his own shop. I think he is some ex-motorcycle racer from Costa Rica and knows about dealing with high performance sh#t. When he was at the other shop I saw him totally rebuild one of those V12 Mercedes. Seems to know what he's doing. He'll really work on anything but he specializes in Japanese. He's worked on my '93 SC400 for the last four years. No problems. I just had him totally re-bushing both front control arms and slap on a full set of Tokico Blues shocks. You would not believe the handling.. the cornering is unreal. A lot of mechanics would refuse to re-bushing the control arms, but instead tell you that you have to buy complete new arms. Those run about $600 each. He is very reasonable. As resonable as you are going to find in someone who knows what they are doing. I dont feel that he has ever lied to me or anything like that. To get there, travel west on Westpark from Fondren. When you cross over Jeanetta you will see a Mexico Tires on the right. Turn right at that street, as this is Osage, the sign has apparently disappeared. As you drive down that block you will see the white shop on the left. It has like checkered flags on the front and says high performance tuning.....etc. I forget what the current name on the building is. Apparently this is just a temporary shop for him as I think he's moving to his own shop in like six months or so.
  3. I've had friends who would buy Bosch parts for Porsche and VW. The life seems too short. I just think Denso is a higher quality. You can find Denso all over the net. I just think Bosch is over rated... Like a lot of items from Germany.
  4. Has anyone had any luck re-coning the 4" Nakamichis? A reputable stereo shop here in Houston, that deals in Nakamichi, says he can repair them to original working order for $20 each. Anyone tried this? I've already replaced all of my 4"ers with new Kenwoods. Mistake! Sounds like *BLEEP*. Loud but lacks the richness and quality sound. My blown Naks sounded better than these new Kenwoods.
  5. Well just as someone would walk up and say, "You ought to pimp yo ride... It be looking sick then"...I have the equal right to express my personal view of the situation which is "Put the chrome down hommie!" It's a forum. Ideas are expressed. Thats what we do here. Dont be so fragile. Nobody was vulgar just opinionated.
  6. I drive in the 4th largest city in the nation (Houston) and I pay $122.00 per month for full coverage on my '93 SC400. My parents have been with this State Farm agent for thirty years, so I'm not aware if certain credits may have been extended to me when I started my independant policy. I have two accidents on my record also. Both my fault and within the last five years. It does have four seats thank God. I dont believe they viewed it as a sports car even though "SC = Sports Coupe". Maybe they didnt click. Who knows. 92SC400owner- $900 a year!! DAMN... That's $75/ month... are you sure? Being in Texas, you probably ought to add uninsured motorists. Too many alien drivers with no insurance.
  7. They'll break in and you'll also get used to them. They will be fine.
  8. My Tokico blues felt the same way at first, but after a few days of hard driving they seemed to break in and became softer. I know what you mean. The car almost gives you motion sickness after about 5 mins on the freeway, as every slight bump and elevation change transfers into a quick sharp bounce. I'm glad mine broke in so quick because I got to thinking, "How would I ever take the car long distance again... There was no way I could take it...lol" How long have you had these on.
  9. I have been experiencing various vibrations when the AC is running and sometimes with it off aswell. I'm wondering if this could be motor mounts. Has anyone ever replaced motor or transmission mounts in an SC400 before. Did it fix a similar problem? Thx
  10. What I think is wierd is that it happens sometimes and not others. I'm wondering if it is a motor mount. You know, Come to think of it I noticed the same feel in a new suv loaner they gave me last year. I dont know.
  11. Maybe I'm getting old at 31 but when you all "pimp-out" your rides it just looks classless and cheap. I dont see the fascination. I mean why dont you just get a cardboard hanging air freshener for the rearview mirror while your at it. A horrible waste of money. Spend that money on a supercharger or something cool.
  12. Hey Nimski62, Did you have that repainted or is that treated with Zymol or something? If painted what did it run you?
  13. Also, when you talk to a new mechanic, if he doesnt mention or recomend replacing the cam seals he may not be real fimiliar with you car. That might be a good way to know who you are dealing with. Play stupid and see if they have the right answers.
  14. YES!! Definately do the cam seals. It's not a big deal when they are doing the belt to install these as well. A dealer might try to make a big deal out of doing it and jack the price on you, while an independant Toyota shop is less likely to charge additional labor for this easy procedure. When they are putting in the timing belt, it's no big deal. The seals are right there. Bottom line, avoid the dealer. Find a good independant Toyota/Lexus repair house in the yellow pages. Then drive by during the day and see what kind of activity they have. Are they packed with business or is it dead? Are they working on top end models? People who own nice rides usually dont trust just anyone to work on them. Talk to shop. You can get a feel for who you are dealing with. At 95k, I'd be getting on it. The change interval is in the 85k range. I dont know where they came up with 120k.
  15. Also, I would definately stick with the Denso line.
  16. If I remember right someone on here said that only the O2's before the cats go bad. So I would guess that it would be one of the front two. I would just replace them both to make sure everything is running smooth. Often these sensors will stop functioning properly, to some degree, even before the cars diagnostics system catches them. There are a lot of internet sources just Google search "O2 sensor SC400". I'm about to have to get some too I think. I'm getting slight "bucking" at low speed and its just not as spunky as it used to be. Just try the two before the cats first.
  17. I just replaced all of the lower control arm bushings, installed a full set of Tokico blues and had a 4-wheel alignment. WOW!!.. Very nice. I didnt even realize how worn my suspension had become. It's cornering ability is unreal. It took a few days for the Tokicos to break in. They were a bit too stiff and the quick bounces gave me a sort of motion sickness at first. But now they are perfect. Very happy!! This 11 year old car feels brand new.
  18. From a dealer that is very reasonable. Mine cost $1,300. Do I believe you will get your car back from the dealer for under $1,000? Nope! They will tear it apart and then give you a call saying that your cam seals need replacing, etc. If you say you dont want new cam seals they will then say that they cant guarantee the work. They will find a way to jack it up. Cam seals are a good idea but they usually tell you this only after they have your engine apart. The dealer doesnt always do the best job either. I would find an independant shop that specializes in Toyota/Lexus and you get everything done for around $750.00. The guys who own these shops are many times former dealer mechanic and probably have more experience than a newby tech at the dealer. As for the replacement interval of a timing belt on an SC400, I think Lexus recomends 80K. I had mine done at 88k. And as you can see, I paid way too much... but the complimentary colombian lattes were splendid. Oh and dont forget the car wash the dealer gives you. Thats got to be worth like $10..right?...lol.
  19. I agree that you can not compare the ES300 & the SC400. In my mind one is a real Lexus and the other is a cosmetically jazzed-up Camry. The ES300 is mechanically identical to a v6 option Camry. You can smoothly cruise at 145 mph is an SC, but I wouldnt feel safe in an ES over 90mph. They just wanted to produce a more affordable "Lexus" for people unable to afford the real deal. Porsche did that bull*BLEEP* with the 914 & 924. Those cars are jokes and so is the ES300. It's a dependable daily driver and little else.
  20. Ah man... Dont tell me that. lol. Im putting a set of Tokicos on tommarrow. They should be good with non-dropped SC right? I hope so.
  21. I just received a leather kit from www.leatherseats.com and have decided to have an interior guy put them on for me. It seems like this task should be quite straight forward but I've said that before and then ... you know. The guys charging me like $285 to install the entire kit including the arm rests. Seems very reasonable and he has done great work for me in the past. The kit differs from the OEM style of leather but seems high grade. Has more texture and seems a little thicker, like the leather you might find on a couch. It feels nice though. Might be better. I'm just curious as to how well the kit will fit. The color match is nice too. I was initially nervous about this kit because I heard that it has vinyl portions where you dont contact the seat. As it turns out so does your OEM. Does Katskins use vinyl? What did you pay? Mine was 729.00 (entire kit with console and arm rests). Very happy so far.
  22. Use the best Amsoil has. I run all Amsoil in my SC400. I have it in the engine, trans and rear.
  23. Thanks guys for all the info. I think I'll take Monarchs advice and replace the front two. I'm not really even sure that's that problem. Monarch, I noticed that you said you always replace with the OEM... This sounds as if you replace these rather frequently. The computer doesnt show any sensor problems but the car just doesnt seem to have the spunk it used to. Someone told me that the sensors can get "lazy" and not perform right without tripping the engine light. Is this anyones experience? I also have noticed a sort of "bucking" sensation when driving slow on a cold engine. I have also experienced this very rarely on a warm engine. Hey Bandit, I noticed you put Eibachs on your '93 SC. How far did you lower it. I was thinking about lowering mine 1". Does the ride still feel nice? Thx
