  1. NeiLtYmE, Look at the date of the original post in this thread. (Sep 12 2003, 02:15 AM). LOC's database was corrupted, so you should check the dates of posts that you respond to, otherwise, as in this case your answer will be very much out of date. It seems that ALL the posts in every thread from the middle of September until October 21st. are gone forever. :(
  2. Lex3486, Hey, Is that the same as a BMW? :D :D
  3. The gas gauge sending unit(in the gas tank) could be slightly defective. The tank does hold 18.5 gallons, but there is a reserve of a couple of gallons, so when it reads E on your gauge you still have some fuel. Also, fuel gauges are not that linear as far as the display is concerned. Did you ever notice that'll stay on full to ½ full a longer time than when it goes from ½ full to empty? Every car has idiosyncrasies in their fuel measurement systems. ;)
  4. Normally you can use 87 octane fuel in your '95 ES, depending on the condition of your engine. If after using 87 octane you find a pinging sound(pre-ignition) when accelerating or putting the engine under load you can go to a higher octane. Read this to find more about fuel selection.>Fuel Selection You can get a free 1995 Owners Manual by Registering your car with the Lexus Corporation.>Register Here
  5. Just as an aside: When I was a lad in High School I got a job working for a Studebaker Car Dealer. I guess you young whipper snappers never even heard of "Studebaker". Well to make a long story short, they just got a shipment of new cars and they asked me to park the cars in the garage. Thinking I was a hot shot I backed one of the brand new cars into a pole. I tore up the rear fender. Needless to say my boss wasn't to pleased with my performance. hee hee hee :chairshot:
  6. Great! Happy to be of assistance. :D
  7. Actually, VVTI engines are supposed to be more efficient than the previous engines that Lexus used in the ES models. They could only get this higher efficiency by redesigning the combustion chamber which necessitated making it an interference type. In other words.....when the piston goes up and the valves open and close(with the proper timing) there is no problem.....but when a timing belt breaks and the valves open at the wrong time they interfere with the upward stroke of the piston....Zoooweee...you have crunched internal parts. Bent valves, bent rods, broken pistons, scored cylinder walls can be the result! In a non-interference engine with a broken timing belt the only thing that happens is the valves stop opening and closing......but they don't interfere with the motion of the pistons.
  8. Try this:http://auth.owners.lexus.com/
  9. Woweee......Now let me see.....Hmmm......If I got one of those things I could raise my '03 HP from 210 to 230. This way I could really be ahead of the game, since I would have 5 more horsepower than the '04 ES330. Than I could rebadge my car and call it an ES350. hee hee hee
  10. In the instance of a computer glitch you probably wouldn't get any kind of notifcation. I didn't when the cruise control stopped working. I pulled onto the off ramp, stopped the engine, than restarted it and everything was back to normal. When I got home from my trip I called Lexus service and he told me the same thing about a glitch and I shouldn't worry about it unless this was constantly happening. It never happened again for at least 8 years of use and than I traded this car in!
  11. Yeah man.......That's the way I would go! ;)
  12. You might have enough power for your lights, alarm etc., but it still could be a defective battery because the starter draws considerable amperage that this battery might not be able to provide. If you have a DC Voltmeter the normal battery voltage should read approximately 12.6 volts at rest and when you try starting the engine the voltage shouldn't read below approximately 9.0 volts. If you can't do this yourself bring it to a repair shop that has a battery load tester.
  13. No sense guessing what sensor is defective since there are too many. The check engine light is on so there definitely is a problem. You should bring your car to a Lexus dealer or somebody that is qualified and have them check this out with a code reader to determine what's at fault.
  14. It could be just a computer glitch(I'm sure you heard of that ) I've had that happen with the cruise control, where I couldn't get it to operate properly until I stopped the car, turned off the engine and restarted it.....than everything was back to normal. It seems that the computer resets itself after you shut off the ignition and than restart it, but as said previously, I would get it checked out.
  15. One other thing: The body shop would take the paint right out of the can w/out having to doctor it up as they have to do on a car that is older than yours and faded slightly. It's a crappy feeling though when it happens, especially when you pride yourself in taking the best care possible. So until tomorrow, relax, have a beer, martini, valium (or whatever)......tomorrow will be a brighter day.
  16. I'm sure that the paint match would be perfect especially if you brought it to your Lexus dealer! ;) You'd never know it was repainted. When I bought my car I had the dealer apply a 3M film to the bumpers to protect the paint, but I don't know how this would have worked in your case. This film was used on helicopter blades to help prevent chipping. So far it seems to be working, but to tell you the truth I also like to park in areas that I would think are safe from bad inconsiderate drivers.:(
  17. That's the area of the timing belt all right! You have to remember that FWD cars have the engines installed sideways, so the belt is near the windshield washer tank, rather than the front on RWD cars. Most likely your engine would not be damaged because of the broken belt since it's called a non-interference type. Interference engines would have caused tremendous internal damage.
  18. I remember when it cost 25¢ to have a key made.
  19. Ohhhhhh, man........I hate that! The same thing happened to my cousins car.....a white '03 ES. Luckily they saw who did it. They confronted the person and asked him what he was going to do about it. He said, bring the car to a body shop and ask him what it would cost to make this repair and he'd take care of the cost. The repair was about $800 bucks. At this point the guy said, NO WAY would he pay that much, so my cousin is having his own insurance company cover the repair cost. Honestly, I couldn't see that much of a damage to the car so I felt this body shop was a rip off. Do you have any idea how they'll repair your damage?
  20. I never got a non-remote master when I originally bought this car. I think that key you have was not original equipment. The price that you were quoted by the dealer was what I've heard they're getting for this replacement. The question I have: Do they replace all the keys for $315 since part of the replacement is for reprogramming the computer? Maybe you could work out a better price with this dealer. I know my dealer is flexible and accommodating.;)
  21. That's very strange........When I bought my new '94 ES it came delivered with 2 remote keys and 1 valet key, plus the flat key that you keep in your wallet. They were both black except for the silver colored wallet key.
  22. Since everything is working properly except the trunk lock I feel that there might be something wrong with the trunk lock itself. I don't know the inner workings of this type lock, but possibly the tumblers are messed up.
  23. That's exactly what this guy was trying to do on this board! I am also an administrator of a messageboard and we have rules and regulations that have to be followed by all the members, otherwise things get out of hand. The original post was removed and replaced by LOC's rules. This new members 1st. post had absolutely nothing to do with discussing anything automotive. It was only a sales pitch for merchandise(clothing). If LOC decides to sell merchandise on this site, it's their prerogative. It costs money to operate a website and they sure are entitled to it. I'm sure that most of the members enjoy visiting this website as I do! Ask yourself this question: Would you or could you have the wherewithal to operate a site such as this? I think your answer would be...No! <_<
  24. So Mama......When are you bringing in the car to be fixed? We care about our members safety! ;)
