  1. I suggest that this type of work be done by a qualified person that has the proper equipment. It definitely is not a do-it -yourself job!! Warning: The air conditoning system is under high pressure. Do not loosen any fittings or components until the system has been discharged. Air conditioning refrigerant should be properly discharged into an EPA-approved recovery/recycling unit by a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning repair facility.
  2. And how much would it cost to cut a rotor? I'm sure it would be a fraction of the cost......so why not try it before you lay out the big bucks. I don't consider a $100 a side cheap! Of course "new" is the best way to go, but some of the guys here can't afford this replacement!
  3. How much $$$ do you consider "cheap enough"? B)
  4. Wow! How did it come out to $630 when the price was $101 per tire? In my area they charge about $25 per tire for mounting & balancing. Sales tax would add about $45. What am I forgetting? How much extra was the road hazard warranty?
  5. Looks sensational!!! Good luck with the new tires.
  6. There is a good chance that the rotors can be resurfaced if there is sufficient metal. They have charts to tell the maximum amount of metal you can remove before they have to be replaced. Any qualified brake shop can measure this with a brake micrometer.
  7. No luck on the '03 either. Believe me I always wanted that option when I was parked and waiting for the old lady to finish her shopping. :D
  8. Done that, tried that on an '04ES...........It doesn't work! :chairshot:
  9. Simply put....NO! There are some companies that can do modifications to your NAV system to play movies, but once that is done you lose the Lexus warranty. It is illegal to show movies in the front passenger seating area. ;)
  10. This is a post I made a couple of days ago in the Edmunds Town Hall messageboard: Subject: Why Bother Fixing this problem? I've been complaining about the crappy shifting on my '03 ES from the time I purchased this car till the present, but when I read about Lexus' sales figures from "Auto Spy" I ask this question: Why would Lexus even bother? Quote from Auto Spy: "Lexus passenger cars also posted strong sales of 12,762, an increase of 13.9 percent. The ES 330 luxury sedan recorded best-ever May sales of 7,099 units, up 23.9 percent. The LS 430 flagship luxury sedan posted sales of 2,763 units, up 55.3 percent."
  11. I didn't have the opportunity to pick and choose the tires when I bought my new ES. How many new owners of a new car would have them change tires? Not too many I would guess. ;)
  12. Could you please elaborate on, "coarse and unrefined ". I know that I have only about 8500 miles on my Bridgestones, but I have found them to be satisfactory all around so far......very quiet and smooth. The tires are inflated to 30psi. As far as premature wear, that I don't know yet, but upon inspection they seem to be wearing very evenly. They have been rotated once since new.
  13. SW03ES- How much mileage do you have on the Potenza's, and why would you like to change brands if you were happy with the quietness and smoothness of these tires? On my '94ES it came from the factory with Dunlop's. I don't remember the exact model, but when I changed them to Pirelli P6000 Sportveloce's I liked them much more then the Dunlops......much quieter and the car seemed to handle better all around.
  14. Changing stock wires in good condition to the "Super Deluxe" type wires will NOT give you any appreciable increase in performance. Before they had computer controlled engines, this type of upgrade, including hot coils made a bigger difference.
  15. Very interesting, but I still can't decode most of the stuff on my VIN code for a 2003ES. All I found out was my car was manufactured in Japan and it's a 2003 model. Example: The 2nd, 3rd, 4th. and 5th. letters mean absolutely nothing to me. They are JTHBF.
  16. tundra-lover- Yes....I do take offense to that last comment! Age has absolutely nothing to do with a person that wants performance in his or her car. :chairshot:
  17. I think that making this comparison is like comparing apples to oranges. You're dealing with 11 year old cars which could have enormous historical differences, like mileage, maintenance, condition, etc, etc. It's ridiculous!! :chairshot:
  18. The dealer I was talking about is Plaza Auto Mall in Brooklyn, NY. They are NOT independent dealers. They are all owned by the same people. They sell, Honda, Mazda, Hyundai, Acura, GM, and Toyota vehicles!!! http://www.plazaautomall.com/
  19. I doubt that since I've used both from the '02 thru '04 and I didn't find any appreciable difference in accessing the routing calculation. What I did notice was the most recent upgrade to the newest DVD disc POI. In this respect it's much more complete.
  20. A Honda/Toyota dealership is very possible......in fact I have one in my area that includes Honda/Toyota and other manufacturers also. They call themselves an Auto Mall. ;)
  21. The bead is all around the edge of the lense where it contacts the housing.
  22. I personally think you're knocking yourself out. When I brought my car into my Lexus dealer to have the upgrade I met another guy that had them change the module. He told me that it made absolutely NO difference in the shifting performance! I'm living with this transmissions idiosyncrasies, whether it comes from the electronic throttle or wherever, but it sure doesn't make me happy. :(
  23. How could I not go? It's only 5 minutes away from where I live!!!! I'm in. :D
  24. Hmmm.....I copied putting on my spoiler from you and now it's time to get my car striped. hehe! BTW: How much did this guy charge to stripe it, if I might ask? Years ago I had them stripe my '76 Cadillac and it cost me $100 bucks. Your car looks great!!
