  1. Just a side note; You all know that Obama and Romney have almost taken up residency here in Iowa, trying to milk our few Electoral votes. Literally, one of the other are here every other day. The real earth quake about about this, is that the four largest newspapers in the state have all endorsed Romney!!! Especially the Des Moines Register, the largest and with state wide circulation, has never endorsed a Republican in almost fifty years!
  2. I ran across this article on whether its best to lease or buy for the the best financial decision. Since we frequently get members who write in about this topic, I thought I would post this for future reference and with the expected comments I hope you will add, we can correct some of the obvious flat out deceptions in the article. http://www.dailyfina...nk2&pLid=227047 From my own experience, if my leases had really worked like this over the years, I could be driving a Bently by now. I assume the author is not an independant writer. Paul Comments?
  3. Earlier, I told some of you about my recent car accident. It ended up totaling my beautiful 2010, ES350 - with only 13,300 miles on it. It was Black Saphire with the spcial wire style wheels they offered only in 2010. The last thing on my mind was trading in my 2010 since it was paid for and since I had it hand washed and cleaned by a detail shop every two weeks, it always looked brand new. So here I was forced to make a decsion to buy a 2013 ES.. What a shame..... At my excellent dealer, I found a beautiful black, ES350, with parchment interior. It had all the bell & whistles, and drove like a dream. (I like 'em smooth and quiet). My friend, the salesman, and I agreed on a price, Now I said, I need to run this deal by my wife and then I'll be back in the morning to wrap thicks up. This was about 3:00 p.m. The next day when I returned, I found out that another sales man, not knowing there was a hold on the car, sold it to someone else. Now, The dealer is in the process of checking around the country to try and find a match to the one I wanted. This is actually a good thing. I found out a few things. Do you think the upolstury in your 2013 is leather? Maybe, maybe not. More than likely it's Nu Luxe. Looks like leather, softer than leather, but not leather. Remember when your Lexus came with lleather just because it was a Lexus? Now you have to pay for it. You can get heated front seats as part of the luxury package. But, if you want COOLED seats as well you have to by the leather. Remember when the rear shade came with the Luxury package?......now you have to buy a seperate package to get the rear shade. (I think it comes with the leather. I'll let you know if and when the car comes in. By the way.....whats your opinion of slightly graphite colored chrome wheels? Paul
  4. Welcome Horseshoer to the Lexus Owner's Club. Sounds like you've got a family heirloom ! At 47,000 miles, a Lexus is just broken in..LOL Enjoy your new ride and let us know how things are going. Paul
  5. Wow James, you really helped this member out. Members with your technical knowledge are extremely valuable to the Club. I hope that you will be willing to jump in more and help others with your outstanding knowledge. Thanks James, and hope to talk to you more around the site. Paul
  6. Wellcome to the Club Bertha. Hope we can help you out. You say the radio will turn on and off but no sound.....if you have a CD player or tape player do those have no sound as well? If the radio has no sound but every thing else does, you may simply have a blown fuse. However, if none of the features work, you may have a dead amplifier. The amplifier is the component that takes the signal from all of the head unit features, such as radio, CD, tape player etc., and boost the signal (increases the volume) so you can hear the sound at any volume. If your system is a Mark Levinson, It is more than likely the amplifier. Wrire back and let us know how things turn out. Paul
  7. We don't agree on which candidate can do the best job of fixing the problems, you old big X 720 tech. but I absolutely agree about voting. If you don't vote, don't complain. If you don't vote, you waste the gift of democracy. Paul
  8. Welcome Grizzy to the Club. Here are some ideas that might help. United Radio is one of the largest car audio repair shops in the country. They have been reccomended to me by friends of mine who own their own car audio store. United is able to repair older and discontinued models. Out of a large inventory they may have what you need. Our Club approved audio vendor is screen name "dcfish". He handles amps, navigation units, head units, ect. Send him a personal message and check out his inventory. Another source people often overlook is your local or online salvage/junk yard. Last, check out e-bay. Be prepared to cough up some bucks. Paul http://unitedradio.com/automotive/
  9. You've got to be kiding me?? My accident was on Tuesday, and my chest is still hurting from hitting the steering wheel. I truly hope your alright Jim. Did you need to get checked out by your doctor or Emergancy Room? It will be interesting to see how your insurer offers to settle up with you given it's a 1990. I was in the left turn lane, with a green light. I had waited for all the oncoming traffic to clear the intersection and began my left turn through the intersection. Suddenly, in literally a nano second, I saw a blur in the corner of my right eye and a car coming toward me hit me in the drivers side front end, spun the Lexus around so that the full front of my car was pinned up against the drivers door of the other car. My seat belt apparently didn't lock because my chest hit the steering wheel and I snaped my neck back and forth pretty good. Got checked out at the ER and all OK except for sore chest and legs that got bumped and skin scraped off. I got a ticket for failure to yield right of way. The car Is a mess up front with the radiator pushed all the way into the compressor. The guy who towed it said the front frame was bent. The value of the car is $28,000. I'm afraid they will only approve repair, when I think it can't be repaired back to original condition. I believe it should be totaled. What do you folks think??
  10. It always cracks me up when somebody who apparently has good technical knowledge, calls a Lexus a "P.O.S.". Then goes on to say that in addition, "it is very poorly designed". and " made for people who ( barely) know how to operate. Get rid of it as soon as you can. Why I get such a kick out these people is that if your so smart and know so much, why in the world did you throw away $42,000 buying the car in the first place. Did you buy it with your eyes closed.lol As Jim said above, (19900LS400) some of the items that you'll see listed on a 30,000 mile service may seem like a nit, but it's those little things that overtime can effect larger systems down the line and create problems. I agree, the first dealer has either mistaken their slide-rule for an iPad, or they don't want to do the work very bad. Go back and tell them politely your sure they must have made a mistake. Paul
  11. Hi Michael, Probably the best place to look is at the bottom of the forums page where the heading says "Lexus Owners Clubs". Enjoy, Paul
  12. Jerry I just finished a lived chat with Lexus Customer support. They couldn't find an answer or explnation of how it works. They suggested talking with XM Sat. directly at 877-515-3987. Lexus said that they are familiar with the Lexus software and how it displays the pages and stores the folders. I asked, "What if this doesn't hwlp?" They said we should call Lexus customer service and press number 2. I have no idea if this will get you what you want. Let's hope. Let me know what you find out.
  13. Try this link to Lexus customer support. http://lexus2.custhelp.com/app/ask Let us know what you find out. Paul
  14. Hi Jerry, Interesting situation to which I've never tried duplicating. Before we go on, which one of your cars are you working with? The 07 or the 13'. If it's alright with you, I'd like to go out and sit in my car for awhile and see if I can find a short cut that would help reach your goal. In the mean time, someone else may chime in and have an answer. Paul
  15. Hello Michael from the midlands of the USA. Also welcome to the Lexus Owners Club. We hope you'll enjoy the site. I don't know the specs for your question, but for an a immediate try use the search feature at the top of the page. Paul
  16. They say that white is really the abcense of color. Not sure if I agree. My wife's car is a white, 2007 Volvo S80. The white makes the whole car really "pop". But with my Lexus I chose Black Saphire. Haven't been disapointed. My first car when I was 16 was a 56 Chevy that somebody had painted "Powder Blue". To top it off, it also had chrome "Baby Moon" caps. I'm pretty sure the Powder Blue didn't catch on in Detroit. Car cost me $450.
  17. Gee John, I've noticed that your postings are always filled with helpful advice and on the spot insults. Basically I don't recall you ever saying one good thing about your Lexus. Which begs the question......why do you keep it? I suggest you pick a dark night, set it on fire, then dance around it in your underwear chanting, "Forgive me Lexus". Paul
  18. LOL.....I agree with Dave. The guy is probably paid by BMW, or just gets off pretending he's an expert on something. My guess is that his parents fed him with a sling shot.
  19. PPg announces the most popular colors for new cars in 2011 in the US, and for the world. I guessed wrong..... http://www.autoblog.com/2012/10/11/white-remains-worlds-most-popular-car-paint-color-copper-and-b/?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl21%7Csec3_lnk3%26pLid%3D219425
  20. Welcome Harry. We hope you enjoy being a member of the LOC. Paul
  21. Welcome aking to the Lexus Owners Club. Glad your here. Personaly, I've never ran across this problem. There may be a diagnostic program that the Lexus tech knows how to access which can determine the level of the problem, and if it's a software issue or a firmware problem. They can give you an estimate on fixing the problem. Please write back and let us know what you find out. Paul
  22. Welcome bkath to the LOC. I don't blame you for being ticked off. What a saga. The first thing that confuses me is why the dealer wouldn't or couldn't say the accident was the cause. If the said they were 99% sure, why would anybody in their right mind just say 100%. IMO that would not be commiting fraud. Fortunetly, Lexus has a excellent network of dealers. But, through the Club's site here I have heard several complaints regarding Lexus customer service above and beyound the dealer level. My own experience has been lukewarm. My questions and/or problems were not complicated and the rep. helped within one call. Others have been like you. It seem's there is no real call center like most companies have, because as you point out, no one is able to give you a name or a number or tell if or when they can call you back. The oddest thing is that Lexus has heard all of these complaints and nothing ever changes. Frankly, I don't have any advice. I would keep future communication in writen form. Some have contacted their state consumer protection division for a letter to be sent to Lexus. Personaly, I like having a Lawyer friend write a letter or loan you a sheet of his letter head and write a blistering letter to Lexus. LOL Your best bet is to put some strong pressure on your dealer. Anyone who has purchased six Lexi is a customer a dealer wants to keep. The person who can move Lexus the most is the General Manager of your dealer. Paul
  23. Don't know about 1993, but with my 2005 and 2010, the shift knob just unscrewed from the shift stick.
  24. Welcome Redragon to the LOC. The owners manual for most Lexus Vehicles, specifies that you can use 91 octane or regular-89 octane. Many members of this club have used 87 octane with no problems except a slight loss of power. For more discussion on this topic, go to the top of the page and use the "Search" entry line and type in "gasoline octane". That will get you started. The only dealer I can reccomend is the one I've used for years here in Des Moines, Iowa. Their "Willis Auto Campus". They have a large internet department and ship or deliver Lexus all over the country. Here is there information: Willis Auto Campus 2121 NW 100th Street Des Moines, Iowa 50325 They also sell Infinity, Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, Cadillac Paul
