  1. Hi Lover, Volvo was bought by Geely last year, but all manufacturing and design work is staying in Sweden. The new head of Volvo is not from Geely and is from the European auto arena. (I can't think of his name right now.) Your right. The old timers are going to have a hard time with this. I belong to Matthews Volvo board and the latest model they ever talk about will be a 2000 S80. Any model year newer than that are not considered true Volvo's I guess. Geely and Volvo are working on a car specifically for the Chinese market.
  2. Using the noun "Lawyers" to mean that every single lawyer in every type of practice is trying to sue everybody they can find for fun and profit is not only overreaching but flat out dumb. Yes Lawyers sue people, and in our present day society all you have to do is turn on the television or look at the back of a phone book to find some low life attorney wanting you to sue somebody. In the same breath all you have to do is talk to somebody in your family or church or work or sports team and you'll find someone who WANTS to sue somebody or is at least threating to. But there are multiple dozens of different types of attorneys that specialize in everything from collecting things to maritime/sea law. We live, as you all know, in a litigious country where everyone thinks there owed something from somebody. It's always somebody else's fault, they did it unto me first!...by god!! Everyone demands their pound of flesh for the slightest little inconvenience.(By the way, is your coffee still too hot at McDonald's?) Going back to the first times when people had the first rights of redress against their rulers/government, there have been lawyers. Both despised and loved. Loved when you won, despised when you lost with your head rolling off the guillotine. No one in any society totally like lawyers, but don't cry to me when you hit somebody's Lexus and injure a passenger for life. You'll probably want a lawyer.
  3. I know both my parents just retired...feel sorry for you guys with nothing to do all day! :whistles: And as far as the car just don't like it at all...Paul...you know what they say different strokes for different folks. The wheels look like someone got it and went on pimp my ride! Kind of spaceship looking to me...maybe for the jetsons or something. Does it fly? LOL..Can see your point about the wheels for sure. As with all concept cars, it pushes the envelope and for Volvo( we have a S80, 07') it is such a wild departure it's bound to start controversy. Stay cool my friend and remember, some day you can have too much time on your hands like me and your parents!!LOL!!! Paul
  4. Wow Paul you found something not on AOL! :P That is one ugly car by the way! Hey, come on! I'm retired and I don't get out much!! LOL To tell you the truth, I don't care much for Motor Trend or Car and Driver as they seem to only talk about zero to 60, braking, cornering at 90mph, and handling on an obstacle course. Things I don't run into much going to buy a quart of milk... I am interested in the business end of making and marketing autos, hence the articles. I thought the car was striking. For one, the grill is way different I'll grant you, but it breaks away from the side scoops that everybody else is doing now and the horizontal grill lines that again, almost everybody copies. The back looks a little like the Ford Taurus and I see it as sleek and very streamlined(if they still use that word now days). Why do you think it's ugly?.....
  5. What Volvo did when they discovered the curved line. New concept. http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/19/volvo-concept-universe-previews-next-range-topping-sedan-from-sw/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+weblogsinc%2Fautoblog+%28Autoblog%29 Paul
  6. Obviously we all must have a secret fear of being vaporized for being such a bad civilization! LOL "Gort hears your command and obeys". Paul
  7. Thats good stuff to know!!.....I thought those kind of annoying things only happened to me.(Misery loves company?) Paul
  8. Your confusion is understandable and at first blush, one does not seem to be related to the other. The best place to start is to reframe your thinking about cars. Todays cars are more akin to a computer with some spark plugs, pistons, and tires attached. A "Check Engine" light on a Lexus can simply mean you forgot to tighten the gas cap when you last filled up. The combination of the check engine & traction control signal a different column of problems that can be checked off when the computer code are "Pulled" (downloaded),by the technician. If ONLY the traction control light had come on it would have meant a problem with that feature. The charcoal canister is not that uncommon an item to be replaced. But, the key is to use a well trained, reputable technician who knows Lexus or Toyota's well and understands the codes when they read them. Not just the friendly mechanic who can change your oil. Hope all works out well for you. Paul
  9. Who's in charge of the RAM?!! Please take extra care of your self and the equipment. I greatly appreciate the sacrifice you and your family are making for us. Paul
  10. Luckily, there's no need for you to understand. To each his own! Paul
  11. IMHO, truer words were never spoken!
  12. Pretty funny.LOL..Obviously the list came only from the minds of the writers and editors, not the people who actually put down their hard earned money to buy their luxury cars. LOL Based on sales in our area, I would put Jag and Audi near the bottom and Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes at the top. Hyundai has yet to find a niche for their two up-scale labels. Thanks for the article! Paul
  13. What are you refering to? I haven't heard of such a thing. What agency shut off the gambling sites and on what grounds? In other words, I'll take the bait!!
  14. Thanks Lexirx. That information alone is very helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to look into it. Hope your week is a good one! Paul
  15. It's because different tire models can have dramatically different handling characteristics. I have Michelin Primacy all season tires on my Lexus too (I do not use them in winter) and they are quite, ride great and provide acceptable handling and braking but they fall far short of the handling and braking provided by the previous tires I used during Spring/Summer/Fall -- summer ultra high performance Bridgestone RE750. The RE750's were incredibly fun but I didn't like their short life - I squeezed just over 20,000 miles out of the set and I really should have discarded them sooner. The Primacy's are very nice and should last far longer but I have had to moderate my driving style which is something I should be doing anyway since I'm in serious geezer (60+) territory and I know my reflexes have to declining even if I don't notice it. No blasting around curves at the limit of adhesion on the Primacys. People interested in maximum performance don't use all season tires. Just a quick add on. This was the first winter I chose to use winter tires. I run Michelin's Primacy MXV?(not sure about the right order of letters), and I put on Michelin X-ICE winter tires for the season. I was surprised at the difference in how tightly the X-ICE tires griped the road when braking, even on ice. Obviously that is part of their design, but a tire can make a big difference in braking ability and the difference in these two tires, even from the same manufacturer, show that.
  16. We're in the La Jolla area of California this weekend, and as we drive around or walk down the street there are dozens of Mercedes every where. If it's not a Benz then it is likely to be a BMW. I have never seen so many Mercedes in one town before. Yes there are Lexus as well, but by far, Benz is king of the luxury market. Is there anyone on the board familiar with this area that could shed some light on this small village and it's luxury car taste. Anyone else have a theory? Curious in Iowa, Paul
  17. I hope we get some more members involved in this and other discussions beside the "Usual Gang" that seems to keep most of the threads going. It would be nice to have some fresh ideas. I admire your maturity in accepting the friendly criticism without responding with negativity.
  18. To be honest they usually are not even cheaper comparing apples to apples. There are all kinds of tricks that direct carriers use, raising comp deductibles, having confusing terms on their websites. I have seen some relatively smart people make some dumb mistakes that have cost them some big money because they thought they understood what they were doing. I have a license in all states that I sell in I have to complete CE classes, have e and o insurance...how much knowledge does the average person have and if they are wrong what kind of insurance do they have if they make a mistake? Geico spends much more advertising trying to get people to call than most companies pay out in commission. It's a business like anything else they win a few they loose a few...they have actually found that people prefer having a local office and are opening more local agencies which I find amusing. Progressive which I do use here and there is a total different thing. They took a name built by independent agencies and tried to steal it a few years back and change agents over to drive insurance. This didn't work out well and have went back however 90% of their ads are for direct which makes me sick. I took down both of my progressive signs in front of my offices and don't know if I will ever put them back up. Lexir do you Rep. American Family, and if so what, in your opinion, is their reputation? Before we switched to them I looked at Consumer Reports as that was the only resource I could find that rated Homeowners/Auto insurance companies.
  19. For someone who said their "not that talented" , you did a heck of a job. Too bright for me, but I sure respect the project! Paul
  20. Let us know how it turns out!
  21. Rob, since you have less that 5k on the car have you discussed with your dealer the chance of doing a swap with a low mileage Is or other model. My es has less than 5k as well, and for a good customer, (I've purchased three cars from them) I'm pretty sure they would do as much as possible to make me happy. Ask. The worst that can happen is that they will say no.
  22. Excellent braking. I always know exactly how they are going to respond.
  23. My guess is an antennae lead or antenna problem. Unless your subscription lapsed during that time and you forgot? That would also explain the totally blank screen.
  24. Your warranty is there to cover defects in materials and workmanship caused by Lexus. Not damage caused by you or someone else. That is why you have collision insurance. Obviously, it would have been nice if the person who scratched your RX would have left you a note, then their insurance would have covered the repair. Have your Lexus dealer give you a bid on how much it would cost to have it repaired like new. You don't have to go there, and getting two or three bids is always a good idea. Paul
