  1. So you think the government mandates they established so far have helped anything? Well, if your going where I think your going, then sometimes I believe a measure that brings about change for the common good against someone or something that is harmful to all is necessary. i.e. anti air pollution, unleaded gasoline. On the other hand, trying to legislate all of ones personal behavior, such as must drive a hybrid, no way.
  2. Given the position of automakers in the beginning, that higher mileage couldn't be done as well as less polluting autos. And the current position that better mileage can't be done, would we have gotten this far without mandates? Paul
  3. Excellent advice all the way around! Technoguy, If you feel you absolutley can't trust this car and want to make the extreme move of selling it, look at this first. Here, Lexus offers a Certified Pre Owned vehicle program. The Pre Owned Lexus are inspected to almost new condition and warranted for at least 30k miles (not sure exactly how much) bumper to bumper. Great way to buy a trusted used Lexus. The CPO conditioning adds only $1,000 to the cost of the car. Paul
  4. While I agree that eating with one hand on the wheel strikes me as a little too weird, I don't think that texting and talking on the cell constitutes Ontario as a Fascist state.(I've never been there, don't know anyone there: for the purpose of full disclosure). Even in a democracy such as the US, laws limit our freedoms and actions. i.e. speed limits, seat belts, yelling fire in a theater, slander, assault, etc. You and your fellow neighbors surely have the right to petition and vote to repeal or modify what laws you feel are unjust or just plain stupid. But a Fascist state, thats too much. Paul
  5. 170 photos of almost every Luxury car out there. If you've ever heard of a particular model, but didn't know what it looked like, or it's specs, take a look here. http://www.autobytel.com/content/research/photos/index.cfm/action/CatSlideShow/category/LXRY/id/32478
  6. RX350, What exactly is your definition of a fascist state? It's not that I don't think there is some zealousness involved here, but what do you mean by your label? Paul
  7. I did a brief search and found this string. There are several other references in the data base that may be helpful if this one does not give you what you need. Paul http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9147&st=0&p=396032&hl=+es300%20+tail%20+light%20+bulb&fromsearch=1entry396032
  8. I've noticed this new style of walking, especially in airports it seems. And my wife is guilty of this. I call it "Heads Down" walking. I've been bumped more than once in airports by people walking along while they're looking down at there smart phone reading/texting and trying to chew gum at the same time. It must be that whatever their reading is way more interesting than knocking over somebody as their walking around half blind. God, do I sound like an old curmudgeon or what.
  9. I'm sure you didn't mean it to sound this way, but to the women who gave birth to those 35 people that died in those car crashes, I bet it was a VERY big deal. Not to mention their husbands and wives and children. On road trips I'll eat a a Quarter Pounder behind the wheel. Maybe I shouldn't. But one thing I never do is talk or text while driving. I get petrified when I see someone doing either close to me because I know there is no way they are paying any attention to me. The worst was last week when I saw a women with a child in the car, talking on the phone, smoking, and drinking a Starbucks coffee. Yes, all at the same time! I was petrified, but impressed. Paul
  10. The price sounds about right based on other post regarding this issue. You don't have to go that route and pay that ridiculous price. But if you do, you'll have a fully stock system, under original specs. Or,just work with a car audio guy who knows what they are doing and you should get by for under $100. with a really good speaker and some labor. I'm not trying to swing you one way or the other. I simply want you to know there is more than one option. Also, have you done a search of the forum? There should be some good information out there about doing this very thing. No. I don't know if the connections are spade, plug, or solder. My guess is plug. Paul
  11. 60% of people surveyed want 60+ mpg by 2025. Do you?.... What's your opinion? http://www.autoblog.com/2011/05/17/majority-of-americans-want-62-mpg-cafe-standards-automakers-don/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+weblogsinc%2Fautoblog+%28Autoblog%29
  12. A word about the speaker. The sound system in the LS and other Lexus are matched with a crossover network specifically designed for the amplifier and head unit of that system. Replacing the old speaker with just any off the shelf speaker may not give you the impedance right for that amplifier or if the impedance is correct the sound quality may be sub par. An OEM Lexus speaker is expensive but may be the best solution. Consult a reputable car audio installer for advice or contact "dcfish" on this forum. Others with experience may chime in here as well. Paul
  13. Thank you very much Lexir! I really appreciate the information. Have a great day! Paul
  14. It's been several years since I've had a speeding ticket, but last winter, I got one for rear-ending a person when the roads were slick. I went to court and got it dismissed because of the road conditions. My question however is, my insurance company noted the ticket on my insurance record. I assumed since it was dismissed it would not count. Does anyone know how this works before I call the company? I imagine it varies by state and insurance company. Paul
  15. Your so right Django, but on a hot August day, the ventilated seats in our S80 Volvo cool you down so quickly and thoroughly, it makes you wonder if the same feature in my ES350 is even on. This is simply not a strong point for the ES, and is offset by the excellent heated seat feature.
  16. Man I need some of those cards! lol actually I have a few state boys insured with me, as well as the dispatcher for the local police and the state police departments. I don't usually even do any name dropping but I am just respectful and do the whole I am wrong sir I am sorry by the way any chance this could be a warning? :) I like your style Lexir! My son in law is a deputy and the whole name drooping thing is a big laugh among the guys when they're swapping stories from being on patrol. All they want is for someone to at least accept some responsibility instead of trying to make it someone else's fault. Paul
  17. Yes he is. He used to look like Gene Wilder! What happened, Kansas? :whistles: I've been called a lot worse. Much, much worse. No, I looked like Froderick (get it? ) Frankenstein. I've long retired from doing major work on cars but I was always amazed after putting an engine back into a car that it started and ran ... and that I never had to use a fire extinguisher which I always held when a rebuilt engine was started for the first time. "You must be Igor". "No, it's "eyegor". (get it?)
  18. I had a similar problem, not with my Lexus, but another car and it was the security switch associated with the hood latch. Only help I can give. Paul

    Hey!

    Welcome to the LOC Matt.
  20. I don't think that's normal. The reason I say "I think" is that mine is an 2010 nav. system and I believe there is a difference in the software. Regardless, there is no reason the screen should ever "freeze. Paul

    Hello!

Welcome to the LOC! Hope you find your answers.
  22. Yes. Compared to other makes, the Lexus provides only a modicum of cooling, and the lower back of the upright seat does not provide the fan vent.
