I was pulling out of a parking lot in the middle of the block. i stopped to check for traffic. the traffic lights at the end of the block was turning red, so cars started to stop. a Jetta gave me enough room to come out so i inched out some more. there were cars parallel parked of course so my hood came out as much as to the front wheels. then i stopped cause the opposite traffic hasn't stopped.

i turned and wanted to check if the jetta had moved. then BOOOOOM, a bicyclist ram into my fender, rolled, almost flipped over my hood with his bike, landed head first on the ground. of course i did the right thing by getting out of the car and checking him out first. he was okay, no helmut, only a lump and a laceration(a cut) on his back of the head. he said his brakes weren't so good. I dont think he's gonna sue for hitting a "parked" car. He was lucky as hell but i can't so much about my car.

i had to deal with the police and paramedics, what a hassle. i checked my car 2 days later and it's a little scratched. the fender where he hit has a ding + some creases now(the metal bend a little) and the part of the hood he rolled over with his bike left 3 pretty long scratches.

Anyone know approximately the cost to fix these cosmetic problems?

Fender needs to be poped back into place or get it repalced.

hood needs repaint? touch up paint will look bad on it.

Maybe i'll post some pictures in the future, after i wash my car i guess.

ps, look out for bicyclists guys!!! their brakes might not work as well as u think

dang that's gotta suck... and you can't really ask him to pay for your car... since he already got a beating from it. lol. the fender couldn't be more than $300/400 painted and installed. the hood repainted maybe $200. gotta do it right. but also make sure that it's lexus OEM parts... the last time i had my front end replaced... dang... i got this ugly butt grille... but i had to, because it was my fault, and yeah... tried to save money out of my deductible.

That was a horrible story to read, specially to a 2000 Lexus. One other thing that I was just thinking about, did you check your rims for any scratches? My friend fell into a ditch in the snow and one of his rims got scratched but they are not very noticeable [sad thing was that he bought them a week ago].

BTW: We were just having a decussion in a "general forum" about Motorcylers going out crazy. 'Why would you ride a bike if the brakes are not good {without a helmet for that matter}, unless you don't have any other means of transportation in a despert moment.'

check with your insurance company. It may be covered and you may be able to get your deductable waived or cut in half. The won't be able to go after the biker for insurance, but he hit you "parked" so he should be responcible for his actions.

it doesn't cost to give your ins. company a call and see where you stand.

You can get a copy of the police/paramedic report as proof that it is not some bullcrap story to get the ins. company to pay for some neighborhood vandels.

Also inquire as to what a claim like this would do to your rates. It may be cheaper to just pay out of pocket. Get several quotes from body shops. Check into paintless dent removal specialists in your area.....a cheaper alternative to body shops somtimes.

2 things i want to clarify:

1) bicylist = a person pedeling with his legs on a bicycle

2) the bicyclist is a homeless person so definite no "insurance" on his end.

thanks for the definition, but I think I know what a bicyclist is. :chairshot:

as for the homeless person, well I guess it is you can't get money from a stone.

I would still run it past your insurance. They may waive your deductable. You won't know unless you ask.

It will be filed as an "Uninsured Motorist" claim and will NOT effect your premiums ;)
