GlennR Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 My biggest issue with my 2002 LX470 is the low beam intensity & dispersion pattern - the high beams are more than adequate for the type of driving I do on a daily basis. I live in the city and require low beams about 90% of the time. Any recommendations and approx. prices would be very helpful. I have looked both here and online - just don't want to buy crap (bulbs that burn out quickly, don't do what they claim, etc.).
jimbostar Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 I just replaced the low beam lamps on my '92 SC400 with Sylvania SilverStar Hologens (see link below), the results were a pretty good improvement - it's basically the best non-HID lamp available right now. You can do an Internet search on Google ( http://www.google.com/ ) for more info. about auto lighting in general or do a search in this forum. http://www.sylvania.com/auto/
Thi Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 I'm happy with Sylvania Silverstar light bulb also. I have a set in my LX 450 and now in my Laser coupe also. Thi
Badams Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=7741& I think I got all 4 bulbs for $128.00
GlennR Posted March 27, 2004 Author Posted March 27, 2004 I spoke to my dealer about a headlight upgrade - he cautioned me regarding melting problems that some replacement bulbs have caused. I have ordered the Sylvania Silverstar H1ST's and the 9005ST - hopefully I won't have any issues. Any more thoughts?
steviej Posted March 28, 2004 Posted March 28, 2004 as long as you keep the same wattage as the stock bulb then you won't have any melting issues. Sylvania Silverstars and PIAA Extreme Whites are your best bet. here is a link to a reputable site that has a decent discount: http://www.performancecenter.com/products/...IARY+LAMP+BULBS steviej
jimbostar Posted March 28, 2004 Posted March 28, 2004 Good link stevie, they have a pair of halogens that I just paid $50 for, for only $15!
GlennR Posted April 1, 2004 Author Posted April 1, 2004 Got my Silverstars this evening, will install tomorrow and post my results :)
GlennR Posted April 2, 2004 Author Posted April 2, 2004 Installed and loving them. Would recommend to anyone wanting to up their headlamps - no longer viewing the highway with what appeared to be two small flashlights.
roberttran Posted April 2, 2004 Posted April 2, 2004 Awesome! So are the low beams 9006 or H1? I am kind of confused since the sylvania site says that it uses H1 or something while the manual has both H1 and 9006?!? -Robert
GlennR Posted April 3, 2004 Author Posted April 3, 2004 Low beams are H1ST's - I noticed more of an improvement there than with the hi beams, but I use low beams most of the time. Paid $30 new for the H1ST's on ebay, easy install - do it, you won't be sorry.
GlennR Posted April 3, 2004 Author Posted April 3, 2004 Great - best $30 you'll spend on a Lexus (honestly, what else could possibly cost only $30 for a Lexus?!?). One caution, if you don't know this already - do NOT handle the bulbs with your bare fingers. I understand that the oils on your fingers can cause the bulbs to explode when they are lit. Use gloves or paper towel, etc. This is what I was told and I believe it :) Someone tell me otherwise.
roberttran Posted April 9, 2004 Posted April 9, 2004 Woot!! Got mine in and installed them. I definately noticed a difference, but was hoping for more :D Wish I had also bought a pair to match my high beams, but I am kind of low on money right now so maybe in the future. I am also thinking about also replacing my fog lamps but not sure whether to go silverstars or something yellow. I took some pics, but they were with my camera phone :( (still have to get a new digi cam) They are on my moblog on the 8th of April: http://1337haxor.textamerica.com -Robert
davetruong Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Hey Robert, Are these the bulbs you are talking about? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...sspagename=WDVW And did you have to take your whole light assembly out to replace the bulb? Thanks man!
davetruong Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 One more question, can you use these bulbs on the fog lights too?
roberttran Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Hey Robert,Are these the bulbs you are talking about? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...sspagename=WDVW And did you have to take your whole light assembly out to replace the bulb? Thanks man! Yes they are. I don't think it is required to take out the left assembly but i did anyways. As for the right assembly, the battery was in the way so I took it out so I wouldn't have to worry about the battery. The body panel around the light was a pain to get off. You have to find where they snap in and use something to carefully pry them off. -Robert
davetruong Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Does anyone know if I can replace the fog lights with the Sylvania H1s? Thanks
roberttran Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Does anyone know if I can replace the fog lights with the Sylvania H1s? Thanks I think the fog lamps use H3's -Robert
