wilhunt
My main job is a Marine surveyor with emphasis on engine problems. I have a special tool that makes a perfect cut to open up a filter. Sometimes putting it in a vice and using a hacksaw can be messy. The guys are right about Fram. They are poorly constructed that I have seen some where the filter paper did not even meet so it was as usefull as an empty can. I have had good luck with Baldwin, Hastings, Amsoil and Wix. I have not cut open a Toyota but generaly the OEM are OK. The best is Caterpiller but it is hard to screw them to a lexus 1UZ-FE
Wick
You mean to tell me my Toyota filters I've been buying for my Toyota and Lexus are Frams? I'm *BLEEP*ed! I'll start buying Wix filters and that way I'll know what kind of filter I have from now on. Has anyone tried an oil call Royal Purple? Wick AWJ, I was kidding about the filters. Get it? Check is in the mail? ha ha
SPORTcoupe300
Like Lextech said, if the filter seal (rubber part) is a bit moist, it's genuine Toyota. So next time you go to the dealer and ask for the filters, open it up and see if it's lubed. If it's not "TSK!" and shake your figer at the parts guy then walk away angrily. Wick
That's why I'm *BLEEP*ed, they haven't been lubed. I'll cut one open and see what it looks like inside. I can't believe Toyota would let Fram be their supplier. AWJ, what about those filters you just bought. Are they lubed? (sounds like we're talking porno) Wick
Bubbles
Are Frams made in Japan? I use the Toyota v8 oil filter on my sc300. Part number 90915-20004 http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/parts/toy...lter/index.html

B) Complete with the plastic cover lextech was referring to and ribbed for her pleasure. Bought them from Sewell Lexus. You're other joke went over my head. I'm up late sometimes - I miss things - like right now. I should be in bed. It is 2:30 am and I have to at work at 6am to do a training seminar for our technicians. <_< I woke up at 5am yesterday and slept 2 hours when I got home today. I have not used royal purple but I'm considering it. There are fine products from red line as well that a few guys are using in the tranny and differentials. But you can only do this on the manual trannies. If you are auto, do not deviate from the toyota fluid.
Bubbles
Lextech2k3: I read what you said and my 90915-20004 is made in Japan and has the plastic thing and is moist. Before I bought a pack of 10 on those, I bought a single 90915-YZZB5 oil filter from the Toyota dealership. The filter says that it's is Denso and made in Japan, but it didn't have the plastic cover or moist gasket. The only exterior difference is the holes that let the oil flow into the filter, the 20004 is in Japanese while the YZZB5 is in English. The filter media inside looks the same.
