P_nut
Hello gentlemen, Im about to pull the trigger on a 92' LS400 with 165K on the clock but I have no idea what to look for in these cars. Can you guys give me some pointers as what I should check for before buying the car? What are the 1992's pro's and cons? What service should have been done with a car with 165K? I'm a porsche guy and know nothing about lexus so any comments is appreciated. TIA.

P_nut
Look above at the "pinned" topics. Lots of information. Thanks RFeldes. I already checked it out, lots of good info. The question now is at 165K on the clock, what service should have been done as far as maintainence go?
ko90ls
maintence items would be timing belt and water pump, maybe some suspension parts. i'd check the power steering pump, if it's leaking then do a search and see if it's something you can tackle or not. if the PSP is leaking the the alternator is bound to die anytime and steering rack filter needs cleaning. oil leaking from the top of the engine is a valve cover gasket, back of the engine is the rear main seal. on mine both were leaking. and lastly check the tranny fluid. should be nice and red, if not the a few fluid changes will fix. other than that you should be fine
P_nut
Thanks KO90. I had the car PPI at the lexus dealership and it passed with a few issues. Steering rack needs to be replace(leak), leak in the rear CV boot and the master control switch needs to be replaced. I just bought the car and will try to tackle these issues myself. Are there any technical threads that will show someone how to DIY??? Thanks...

AppleJack
Hey there LScott, that adobe download is very detailed. What manual did you get that from and where can I purchase it .... (ps. I'll need it for my 92 Sc400) thanks,
vyhanh
You can find it in the LEXUS Repair Manuals which come in 2 volumes, costing about $150-200.
AppleJack
Thanks, but I just noticed that only volume 1 is available .... What is the difference between volume 1 and 2? I'm mainly interested in the engine components .... Also, it's like pulling teeth to get these manuals from Lexus ... thanks
