The very best 'factory' (OE size) original tire you can get currently is the Goodyear Triple Treads......next would come the Falken Ziex ZE-512. If you want long mileage with excellent performance in bad weather & a comfortable ride.....by far these are your best bet's! (I will be putting one or the other on my ES when my Toyo's wear out....my wife has the Falkens on her car now & my Dad has the Triple Treads....both are fantastic!) B) Let me know if you have anymore questions. B)

Hello,

Whats the right size for the 98 ES 300 ? my car has a marked road noise with the current tires(Hankook) I got. Which brand should I replace my tires with ?

thanks,

kashif

I don't remember you asking the question back then :whistles: & you mentioned Hankook's? Do you have Toyo's or Hankooks? & Which model specifically?

Due to a nail, we are assessing whether new tires all around are in order. At 253,000 miles (on the car, not the tires!), I am not looking for investment tires and these Falkens are easily affordable. Sears even matches the Discount Tire price, which makes them marginally cheaper at Sears, go figure. The Goodyear Aquatreads we now have are a bad ride and I won't be sorry to replace them. Trouble from the word "GO."

So, are the V series worth the additional cost or do the H series do just as well?

opinions?

Thanks in advance.

I can concur with LexusFreak...Falkens are a good bet, and an easily affordable alternative thats 99% as good as the other tires. I dont know how they compare to a tire like the Michelin MXV4, but considering the MXV's are over $150 a tire, i really dont care. I have had 2 sets of Falkens now...and i will never own another tire on a passenger car/sport compact ever again.

my .02 worth.

So, I have been looking at opinions posted around the web and find many comments about these wearing out fast. Like 8 months! And noisy. Can this be true? This is exactly what I don't want in a tire.

And, the H vs the V rating? Worth the extra .02?

thanks,

rosie

Ill put it this way, my escort is quiet as the dead. My Lexus was too. I have 0...thats **ZERO** Issues with this tire. I have had my set on for 8 months, they are fantastic. Still look brand new. In the low profile versions, they last only 30K miles, if you have the 50 series sidewall and up, they last 60K. If you wanna know any more about them PM me, otherwise, i feel i should take my leave from this thread, as when it comes to the topic of tires, i tend not to tread lightly...

Army,

Please clarify for me which ones are the "50 series." I do not see that on any description of the tires.

thanks,

R

the 50 series sidewall is the sidewall measurement...for instance, mine are 195/60/VR15 195 is the tire width in MM, the 60 is the sidewall height in MM, the "V" is the speed rating and the R15 is the Wheel sixe it fits on, in my case a 15" wheel.

Correction Army, the 60 series & higher (65 etc) are good for 60k miles.......the 55 & lower (50 etc....which is considered somewhat 'lower profile' at least) series are only good for 30k miles. ;)

I'd go Michelin MXV4's. Had 4 sets on all my cars. Great tires.

I concur, The MX's are a great tire on a lexus, I hear alot of the same old same old about the falkens. I wouldn't chance them on a lexus maybe a small american second hand car, But probably not. The price on tires really are not that much of a consideration for me, I would rather have the best money can buy after all that is part of the reason why we own a lexus. You get what you pay for. I have run all makes of tires in my time and I always wind up with michelins, The best tire in my opinion.

I have a LS400. I recently went off of tirerack.com reviews and purchased a set of Continetal premiercontacts.....long story short...had one out of round...replaced it with new one......waiting for my Michelin MVX4's to arrive at the dealership so I can have them put on and these concrete tread continentals removed, returned and refunded.

Thanks for the note. I understand (because I read through the Faq) that V and H are the speed rating and have little, if any, actual bearing on the quality of the tire (I never drive 130 or 150 miles per hour!)

Having said that, do YOU guys find any benefit to buying a higher speed rated tire (V) vs the lower one (H)?

I've noticed a slightly softer ride with my Goodyear TT's (H speed rated) over my previous Toyo Proxes TPT's (V rated)......I prefer the H personally as I don't notice a huge difference in handling (the ES is no sports sedan no matter what tires you install to begin with).

I completely get that (Es is no sports sedan) My question has more to do with the materials used and resistance to breakdown at lower temperatures. Something must account for that. Softer ride sells me. The aquatreads I have now suck.

So, I am going for the Falken H's. Thanks for the input everyone.

I would certainly be investing in higher end tires if the car didn't have such high mileage already and the car was newer. If I need another set before she dies, I am no further behind ($$-wise) with getting two sets of Falkens rather than one of the Michies.

off to Sears!

I am not sure what you mean by "resistance to breakdown at lower temperatures" with relation to the sidewall stiffness? If you mean loosing air pressure, the sidewall stiffness really has nothing to do with that.......all tires loose a small amount of air over time & more so in extreme cold.....that's why it is advised to check your tire pressures at least once a month if not more often. B)
