FLiP Sp33d Posted June 3, 2003 Share Posted June 3, 2003 Are cross-drilled rotors just for show or do they really dissipate heat effectively to the point where it dramatically improves braking? zeta Posted June 3, 2003 Share Posted June 3, 2003 i'm pretty sure cross-drilled rotors would improve braking more than solid rotors. since the solid rotors can't spread heat away from the rotor as easily, it heats up more. the cross drilled has holes. when the friction between the pad and the rotors goes over the holes, it can push some excess heat into the holes and then it can be released later. the extra air through the holes also helps cool down the rotor itself. steviej Posted June 4, 2003 Share Posted June 4, 2003 ProZac, cross-drilled rotors have many little holes all the way through from one side to the other. slotted have grooves on the surface of the rotors, sometimes in a curve from inside opening to outside edge. both are for rapid heat dissapation to prevent brake fade. steviej sorry skp, I was in the neighborhood. SKperformance Posted June 5, 2003 Share Posted June 5, 2003 over kill i doubt it just a good improvement i would have liked to get a nice combination one but remember no matter what anyone says the camry v6 rear rotors fit but are not the same diameter also the ones pictured are ok not a real high end one more of a die maker grinding out material compared to a nice curve in the slots also a chamfered edge or a bevel will help reduce noise when braking on a slotted the same goes for the drilled to have a lip around each hole Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
