  1. The center right? The ol factory sub..It's 10" free air sub that runs with your factory amp. Check a few wreck yards...often you can get one in good shape. Stay in the same power range for best sound. If you upgrade to a more watt model you will find it sounds like crap..... Drop in an aftermarket sub and box! You will need an amp though.........Oh be sure it's open or free air style sub... :P
  2. We did find some of this information on www.edmunds.com and going through the various years road tests. They may not list every change, but the more significant ones are. We also purchased a 2003 just a few weeks ago and are in love with it! We wanted all the refinements that had been made since 1999 including the DVD navigation system.
  3. Alexmiami, I have a 1991 LS400 with the factory Pioneer tape /CD. I think the motor on the tape player may be going and I've thought about an aftermarket replacement too. All a dealership can do is remove the broken unit and replace with a REFURBISHED unit of the same type - cost: around $500.00. The advantage ? You have an original system for your car - only important if you want as much original as possible. The sound is as good as any unit on a luxury car. If you want mind-numbing wattage, you need an after-market system. They're cheaper - a good one can go for aroung $300.00 , but the fit / finish on the dash won't be that great (I did the "aftermarket system on my last lexus) and you may have a Stereo guy !Removed! around with your electrical system. You will also have to upgrade all speakers to accomodate the higher wattage, as well as possibly having to install other expensive electrical add-ons. In the end, it's a matter of interior aesthetics VS. blood coming out your ears. When I need to replace my unit, I'll go with the original for a replacement.
  4. I just upgrade my 98 GS400 with H&R Coil Over suspension Brembo Brakes L-Tuned Steering ECU Works like a charm.
  5. Wow - old thread. Lots has happened since then. Anyways - to answer your question I can give you this advice. 1. If you absolutely love your 400 and will not part with it then check out a torque converter with a stall in it at least 2500 up to whatever range you want to launch at. Precision Industries has been well spoken of by other auto Lexus guys. You have an intake, companies like weapon R make an ecu upgrade that can take advantage of modifications. You could run a shot of nitrous maybe up to 100hp or more on stock components if installed correctly with all the safegaurds. Also, the 4.7 tundra crank can be installed for a 4.3 stroker motor from your 4.0. If you go this far you can research cam regrinds - some other guys have had luck with Crane doing custom regrinds. Port and polish - milling, compression increase.... you can get creative. But now this is getting into money and still how much power for the $ will justify this work? You could do a one off turbo set-up for the 1UZ. There is a LS400 running around in the west with a tt set-up. Also, someone has a supercharger somewhere. Check out Peter Scott's site in the faq. Planet Soarer - has info. Not sure if it is commercially available. 2. Sell your SC400 and get a SC300 and go nuts on it.
  6. Yep... found that company.... its like 1200 bucks for LED clear bottom half lenses... looks okay, but for 1200 bucks??? I think its because its an LED upgrade
  7. You may want to just upgrade your suspention. I am about 80% sure that TEIN offers a system for your car. They do have a US office. You can contact them at 562-633-7387. Give'em a call may be they could help you out.
  8. I have an '03 ES300 and I also have a rattle in the right rear. I have found out from Lexus Corporation that there is a service bulletin issued for this problem. I also spoke to my dealer and he told me to bring the car in for the modifcation to eliminate the rattle. He also told me that they have to remove the rear door panel and do something to the insulation to correct it. I don't notice a rattle in the dash though. Do you have the Navigation in your car? I do, so I'm wondering whether cars equipped with this feature is prone to rattling in this area. My car has about 600 miles on it. Alan
  9. check with your actual salesperson and sales manager. This may be a variable dealer upgrade. Some dealers may offer it to promote sales and some may not. The 800 number will only give you the 'headquarters stance' but not the actual practice from the dealership you purchased the car from. I didn't bother with the nav system cause people are always telling me where to go. sj
  10. It may be possible that the rotors are warped. If this is the case, you might be able to have them replaced by the dealer if you are still under warranty. Check with your local Lexus dealer and see what your warranty will cover. Good Look. And if your looking for an upgrade look into stoptech. I have heared nothing but good things about them
  11. Can you replace a stock (Pioneer) radio in 1999 LS 400 with a stock Navigation system from a 1998 LS 400. I have all the parts, wires, etc. or is the wiring and ECU controls not compatible for that type of replacement.
  12. The clutch from or for a non turbo mkiv will work or any similar upgrade - it is the same. The 6 speed will not work because I beleive they are designed differently.
  13. Hmm, ok so would you be able to upgrade the clutch/pressure plate to the mkIV disc with the stock 300 tranny. Or would you just have to go ahead and do the 6-speed tranny swap?
  14. No, not really any odd angles. Flex-a-lite dual 210's. They work well for the most part. I was going to upgrade the stuff to run on a temp sensor and redo the wiring but never got a chance. No contradiction taken, some people have them and like them - others don't. Personally, it's hard for me to buy a real gain because I have not seen any dyno numbers with just the fans.
  15. Hello, MLD here. My wife has a '00 RX300. She remainsl very happy with the decision to get the RX. I have been wanting an LS400 for quite some time (I don't care much for the 430 body style). I am considering a '99 or'00. A few questions: What is your opinion about buying thru the Lexus CPO plan? For example, is the (extended) warranty generally worth the premium over what I could pay thru an auction? Consumer Reports latest chart for reliability on the LS400, based on owner responses, indicates that the LS400 had the highest possible score in all years except for 2000. For 2000, it received the second highest score. Does anyone have direct or indirect knowledge supporting or refuting this result? The only options that I must have are (i) moonroof, and (ii) 6 CD player. I would like to have (iii) heated seats, and (iv) HID(?) headlights. Are there other options that you believe are important. If yes, why? Sound system is not important to me. But, what about the navigation system for example? I have decided to buy only blue exterior. There are 3 blue ones with low mileage (22k to 36k) in the Lexus CPO plan in the DC area. I am considering negotiating over the phone, flying to DC, and then driving the vehicle home (about 600 miles). I tend to keep cars for quite awhile. Consequently, resale value is not importatnt to me. B) Any thoughts would be much appreciated. MLD
  16. If you have that cash on hand then ok. But for a college student it will be hard to finance something like this in a timely manner. That is what I was getting at. I have heard good things about Phil's book. There is information in the faq as well. But for the price of the swap a comparable na-t job can be done that yeilds much more power. That would be the goal of the swap right? The SC is a great car alone with out boost, but with boost it becomes a super car of sorts. I couldn't imaging maintaining a vehicle like that while trying to go through college. If you can then great. There is 1 engine that would be worth dropping. The 2JZ-GTE the 3.0 MKIV supra TT motor. The japanes soarer 2.5gt has a 1jz-gte 2.5L TT. The supra motor is sequential operation on the turbos while the soarer is parallel. A usdm 2jz-gte is going to be easier to source parts and upgrade components for. The JDM counterpart is going to be more difficult. What engine codes are you referring to specifically? With enough know how you could put a leigenfelter motor in there if you wanted. The best model is the 1995 model year 5 speed SC. It has a tranny tunnel that will accomodate the getrag 6 speed. Custom shafts and the like are involved. Manual trannies were available from 92 to 97 in the SC300. There is not point to buy a SC400 if you are going to pull it. the 300 is the 3.0 inline 6 and the 400 is a 4.0 V8. Standard rules for buying a used car apply. Look for a SC300 in good condition. A higher mileage one is going to have more wear - bushings, mounts, hinges, paint, undercarriage, etc. If you are pulling the GE motor out then miles may not be as critical, but you still need to consider the rolling frame. A good shape 92 might be had for 6.000$ as some claim but it's unlikely IMO. Find your SC on autotrader, forums classifieds - etc. Of course - help is good - and if you know what you're doing then you got it in the bag. Previous experience is going to help the most. You will need a lot of stuff that is not planned on. A little write from the experienced A GTE swap into an SC is a sweet idea. I'm not trying to rain on a parade - but this is no picinic for the wrench or pocketbook. Best of luck.
  17. Dont really know what your looking for, but I'm selling my 20s with tires for CHEAP. I have a '96 GS and I also have 1.75" intrax springs and KYB struts. IMHO, if you do anything more than a plus1 upgrade on your wheels, you should lower the car. If you mount 20" wheels and a Eibach suspension kit, the car will still ride pretty nice. I have attached a pic of my car, for reference.
  18. My vote's for simply adding some finely tuned subs in the back. Stock Lexus systems have always been exceptional, and there's really no need to switch out your head unit unless all those tiny buttons and flashy lights are worth the extra money. Save the cash and simply upgrade the speakers.
  19. Fuel Delivery Hardware: I need to upgrade the fuel pump. What fuel pump do you normally upgrade to? A supra one, walbro, or something else? Software: If I am obd1 on the car and ecu, I shouldn't need standalone or anything, correct? Will an AFC do the trick? Thanks, Marc
  20. The American Lexus Owners Club has recently implemented a new feature for Lexus owners. The Dealer Review System allows you to review and rate your Lexus dealership. Have you had good, bad or indifferent service from a Lexus dealership? Are they excellent when you are buying the car, but let you down with aftercare? Or do they offer a consistently high level of care? Enter the USA Lexus Owners Club Dealer Review System (or use the navigation bar on the top of every forum page) So - lets get your reviews in, and start seeing who is the best (and worse) Lexus dealership out there!
  21. Hi Does any one here know how can i get to the gs300/400 98 to 00 year navigation diagnostic screen/ system set-up screen, service screen or the screen witch shows all the options wich we not supostu see it is for dealer only. I know there is a way on 01 and up cars witch factry navigation i figure there is got to be on the older ons too. Adam
  22. Nice Lip MSypher. TV's are tucked quite nicely..... That is my next mod...I have already done the OEM Navigation Conversion and can watch TV and DVD's.
  23. Actually MrSypher brought this up to my attention regarding fuel management along with other mods. I would definetly appreciate all advices from all members of this club :) . Regarding the apexi s-afc. I don't know much about this product. Is it as simple to install as the SRT ecu upgrade? Kevin
  24. Supra hard pipes kit will work with a GTE drop. Custom is just as well. So will the 6 speed. But if you use a 6 speed the tranny tunnel will need consideration. I know 1995 model year is clear but there is debate about the rest. If you do supra tranny you need custom drive shaft, you'll need at least the TT differential or TRD upgrade. You'll need a tt clutch pack or a nice built auto - Sound Performance makes a great one. You need either a TT wiring harness, custom harness or standalone loome/ecu whatever for management. Fuel pump, fuel filter, lines, the motor - and some real good wrenches, a soldering iron, patience and skill. Don't forget your wallet. Our member quickturbo did it himself. You might be able to get a hold of him - or he may post here, maybe. There is a book by a guy named Phil Auldrige or something like that. He sells it on the internet, supposed to be a manual.
  25. Magnetic, Do you have one of these CATZ kits? I'm interested in the 4500K kit. I'm just concerned about how well the ES projectors cut the beam off. I don't want a bunch of angry people flashing me, or so obvious that I have a non-DOT legal conversion that I'm pulled over. I'd be interested in seeing some pics, Liteswap had a pic, but it was for the 5500K kit, and just a side view of the housing, not a pic of the beam pattern, or a pic of the oncoming car at a distance (to see if there are glare "halos" above the lights. If the projectors cut the lights off, I will just make sure they're aimed low. If there are halos, then I will have to reconsider. And btw, I do plan on donating to the charity. I lost somebody close to me to lymphoma, so this would be a win-win way for me to upgrade my car and give to a charity that I believe in.
