  1. Very true, the shop really matters a lot. Cheapest isn't always the best way to go, especially for a job that's kinda tedious and big like your RX. Fortunately my bumper replacement turned out great and the white paint matched perfectly.
  2. That's what I had in mind. Yes defensive driving. Especially here in American culture where a lot of people take driving for granted by putting makeup, eating, etc. I dont understand people "dont" have time to eat before or after driving but they have time to smoke at their destination.
  3. Good thing you scanned around your vehicle and noticed him in your mirror. I do that a lot when there isn't any car next to me, or behind me yet, and once there are cars there, I can relax more. :)
  4. Enjoy the time off and stay safe when you get back!
  5. I agree. I don't want to start anything here, or bad mouth them, but my experience with that forum was that I wasn't "cool" enough to be part of the club. Aside from the fact that i signed up there at age 13, they seemed to look at you as a stranger, and a nobody unless you go to their meets and party with them. One thing I like about LOC is the feeling that we're one big family even though at times I feel there isn't much information being added on to my forums (GX and LX) due to the fact that there is less foot traffic on this site but as they say, it's Quality, not Quantity. I mean, yeah there are youngster like me here, but you guys treat each and every one of us like a good friend. :D
  6. This is kinda biased question but as SW said, everyone's good and different depending on what vehicle you have. I'm part of a odyssey club (but rarely sign on there) because I have an Ody, and I'm part of a 4Runner forum so I get more info specifically for my 4Runner. Every forum has their own specialty. ;)
  7. Looking at the dent, looks like they have to replace that part of the metal. I don't know how they do it, as when my RX300 back 5 years ago didn't get any body metal damage, so I can't tell you how they repair that. But unfortunately, you're definitely looking at a 4 digit repair bill. Take my bumper incident for example. Bumper, painting, and labor costed me $805. Good luck. Just remember, cheaper isn't always going to be better. Use good common sense and inner feelings to judge whether the shop will do a good job or not. I had two shops quote me, about the same price but the first shop seemed like they didn't really know what they're doing. The bumper guard on top of my bumper, is built in, meaning it is part of the bumper, and not some attached thing. First shop told me, they'd remove the old one and put it on the new one. Second shop said that it's part of the bumper and that it's the "unpainted" part of the bumper. Shows to me, the customer, that maybe the first shop doesn't know what they're doing until they start working on my car. Just make sure you go with a shop that sounds like they know what they're doing and make sure it's no "XYZ bodyshop" but some reputable shop in town. I highly recommend body shops at dealerships because they have a reputation to keep.
  8. I presume that it may rust due to the fact that you get snow in your area (which is mixed with salt and other stuffs). Here where I live, I have a couple paint chips, and they never rusted. I have one in the front of my GX on the hood, and I always forget to have it touched up and it's been about 2 or 3 years since it happened. I found 1 paint chip on my 4Runner, and that too I keep forgetting to touch it up. :whistles: If you don't want the touch up to look bad, ask your dealer about a professional paint touch up guy. My dealer did a couple touch ups on my GX before, it won't look as perfect as brand new but better than if I did it myself. ;)
  9. But car covers are helpful IF you have to leave a car outside, and don't want cats scratching on the paint and having bird droppings on top of your car. So far no cat has been on top of any of my cars when they're covered, you can tell if there are scratch marks on it (which I don't seem to find any) but if you're covering a car that's inside the garage (i've seen people do it, sounds crazy but people do it) then it's not worth covering a car up.
  10. Funny I start with the wheels too. My reason is because not only do I clean the wheels, I have to scrub down the wheel well (which takes awhile and the rest of the body would dry up by the time I get to drying the car). But since I know that it could collect rocks or dirt, I have 2 separate sponges and buckets so after I clean the wheels, on to the body. ;)
  11. "MY GPA." haha. lol j/k. I wish Litre
  12. You know I also thought about that but would cost quite a bit. I am totally obssessed with my cars, even if it's the Ody and since the day I found out that the renters in the cul-de-sac across the street from me were drug dealers (which I don't know why the cops can't put them and the drugs together?!?!?) so I've been a little more cautious. Or my last resort (which would probably be in my wildest dreams) is to move out of my current house into a house with a 3 car garage. :whistles:
  13. put a car cover on it. That's what i do and makes me feel much safer. It may not be much, but it'll deter people to look into your car and they'll go find someone else's car to break in.
  14. Exactly. I've established a relationship with all three dealerships (Honda, Lexus, and Toyota). That's probably one of the reasons why i got my door lock replaced FOR FREE even though my warranty expired in Jan. Not to mention the free rim replacement when the Toyota dealer scratched it from rotating it. ;)
