  1. Yes, you'll now be able to enter destinations in the NAV while driving, be able to shut off the traction control, voice commands will actually work, and bluetooth will work with any phone. In reality, you may see an increase in mileage. But, if your ISC didn't need the reset, you may see no difference. Have you ever disconnected or replaced your battery?
  2. Rey? Rey? Was this ever resolved?
  3. Rey, you can do it yourself if you so desire.. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58930 The dealer may charge you (likely) unless you're on really good terms with them. Not really surpised the dealer has no idea what an ISC reset is, HOWEVER, if they follow the procedure laid out by Lexus for any service where the battery is 'supposed' to be disconnected (like changing a timing belt, which I'm sure they've done) there are instructions on resetting all the vehicle features (like the auto windows, auto sunroof etc.) and one of the procedures mentioned is the ISC reset. My guess is that most mechanics can do a timing belt change without reading the Lexus service manual, hence they never read about the ISC reset.
  4. RxRey, you can do it yourself, or print the pdf out from the sticky in this forum under Technical Service Bulletins and explain gently to the dealer that they are MORONS.
  5. Here's what worked for me...I kid you not. Haven't had a problem since. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=67691&st=0&p=425479&fromsearch=1entry425479 No hammer needed (though I suppose the hammer might save hurting the palm of your hand). It's worked for someone else as well who had the same problem after reading my post.
  6. I seem to remember reading a post where this was being caused by a weak 12 volt battery. One possible cause. As mentioned, get the code read (for the check engine light) and go from there.
  7. This worked for me. Haven't had the key not turn since doing this. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=67691&st=0&p=425479&fromsearch=1entry425479
  8. I'd also suggest that you register the vehicle with Lexus, and at that time, ask them if there are any outstanding recalls, or 'campaigns' as Lexus calls a non government enforced recall, on the vehicle. When I bought my RX400h used in 2009 and registered with Lexus Canada, I discovered a 'campaign' to replace the entire electric steering rack as the original could fail without warning. Nice thing to know, and the previous owner had never had it dealt with.
  9. If you have the temp set to 'max cold' then the recirc will always come on. If you bump it up one single degree to 18 (celsius in my case - whatever it is in F in your case) instead of 'max' then the recirc will not come on automatically. However, if your desire is to have it at it's coldest, then that's what A/C plus RECIRC will do. Since it recirculates already cooled air, it will be colder than drawing hot, humid air from outside.
  10. Have I been correcting you a lot? Sorry if I have, but I have obsessive compulsive personality disorder (not OCD, but OCPD). By the way, "altho" should be "although". With any coolant change, air in the system is a bad thing.
  11. Per the 2006 owner's manual, coolant change for the inverter and engine is at 100 000 miles (160 000km) exept in Canada where it's recommended at 128 000 KILOMETRES (don't know why??). With coolant, it's not so much how it looks, but that additives (like anti-foam, anti-rust, anti scale etc.) lose their effectiveness with age/mileage. Depending on your skill, experience with engines, and comfort level (when messing about with a $7000 inverter) these can be done yourself. Get a copy of the shop manual (convieniently on DVD - check ebay) and you'll see it's fairly simple. Me personally, I would do the engine myself, but leave the inverter to the dealer. Fortunately for me, WHEN MY INVERTER FAILED (this in CAPS since your dealer says they've never changed one), and was replaced under warranty, the coolant was replaced at that time, saving me the cost of having the dealership do it. Speaking of failed inverters, your dealership must be lucky - aside from my own personal experience with this, someone I work with, who also has a 2006 400h suffered a complete inverter failure while driving on the highway. Mine never actually failed, but was leaking coolant and would likely have failed in the future due to the coolant leak.
  12. Look at the TSB in point #8 in this post http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58929 Specifically, It is important to perform the ISC Learning procedure anytime the 12–volt battery is disconnected or the voltage falls below 7 volts. This procedure allows the I.C. (internal combustion) Engine to re–learn its optimal idle speed during the initial engine warm–up cycle or charging the HV battery. If this procedure is NOT performed, the following customer complaints may occur: Engine runs too long or more frequently than normal Reduced fuel economy Transmission gear “clatter” noise at idle is more pronounced Maybe this clatter noise is what you're hearing? I've heard this noise before on my own vehicle prior to doing the ISC reset, but it definitely sounds like it's coming from down low in the vehicle (like down where the transaxle is). Now, this TSB is for the 2006, but it came out in 2006. Whether it applies to later years I don't know. Still, it wouldn't hurt to print it out and ask the dealer to check that the ISC procedure is complete (they can use the Lexus computer that hooks up to the ODBII port). Alternatively, you could do the ISC reset yourself (look up the procedure in this forum). It's easy enough, and owner's that have other years than 2006 have done it and reported increased gas mileage.
  13. I don't think he's been through two batteries - I think the one he has, has died twice. Three years is not unheard of with the small, weak battery that comes in the 400h. You can still have the green eye, but have a bad cell. This happened to me a few times (the battery dying) when I first got my 400h used. One time I was just playing around with the NAV system - accessory power on, but not in READY mode, and another when I left the driver's door open for about 10 minutes. Took the battery to be tested and it had a bad cell. It's supposed to be 450 CCA or something, and was only showing 200 and a bit. Now CCA is not an important number for use since we don't have a starter, but the low CCA indicated a bad cell (the 12 volt has 6 cells in it I believe. Anyway, my guess would be a new 12 volt battery is in order. It's easy enough to have the one you currently have tested.
  14. Cold cranking power means nothing with the hybrid as there is no cranking involved. However, usually with more CCA comes more reserve capacity, which is something the RX can use. To the OP, I agree, the 12 volt battery probably needs to be replaced.
  15. I think Johnson Controls makes all batteries..lol I know they make the Optima line of batteries for sure..
  16. I agree. If it's dented and still working, then I doubt there's any internal damage. It's not really something you can take apart and check internally once it's out of the vehicle anyway.
  17. Interesting... http://www.varta-automotive.com/index.php?id=351&L=0
  18. You need a new inverter? What happened to the old one? Out of warranty? Anyway, I'd suggest getting a shop manual (or shop DVD, as most seem to be on disc these days). I have one and it's comprehensive. I still like an actual book, but maybe I'm a bit of a Luddite.
  19. Yes, it's an interference engine. Apparently not all that common in Toyota's. So don't delay on timing belt maintenance. By the way, you can have a timing belt and a non interference engine.
  20. They usually terminate in the wheel wells, although sometimes depending on vehicle make, the fronts can terminate in the channel below the front windshield. They tend to plug up either with debris from the sunroof drain channels (leaves etc), or from crap flying up into the wheel well plugging the end of the drain. I don't know for sure where they terminate in the RX (I can check my shop manual when I get home).
  21. Sunroof drain tube plugged? (I think there are two in the front, two in the rear). This is a common problem on lots of vehicles.
  22. What the hell is "additive to windshield washer"? Sounds like deduction from your wallet and addition to dealership profit to me. Nothing needs to go into the windshield washer reservoir except windshield washer fluid. I checked with the dealership (Lexus and Toyota) near me here in Canada, and they both said they would not change the water pump unless it was weeping and needed replacement. When I had my timing belt done, the water pump didn't need to be replaced, but I did need the idler pulleys and tensioner for the timing belt, which was an additional $300.
  23. The TSB is for 2006, not sure if it applies to later years. You could try asking Toyota/Lexus, but it seems to me that most dealerships aren't even aware of the need to do the ISC reset on the '06s (or what an ISC reset even is). I 'think' some owners of later years have done the ISC reset and found improved mileage.
  24. I already answered this didn't I? Maybe in the other Lexus forum? Anyway, it's 76 lb-ft (ft-lb? I can never remember which way it's supposed to be).
  25. Yes, that extra wipe is really irritating. I know why Lexus programmed it (Lexus owner's can't be inconvienienced, and 'usually' after spraying your windshield more dribbles down from the overspray at the top of the windshield arc - this extra wipe is supposed to save you having to clear the dribble yourself. It's even timed, and will do the extra wipe sooner if you're going at a faster speed and will be delayed if going slower/stopped) Unfortunately, I find it usually just ends up smearing what had been a perfectly good spray/wipe/clean cycle, forcing me to do the spray again and then quickly to a manual wipe, which stops the system from doing the extra delayed wipe. I will give kudos to Lexus regarding the auto wipe feature though. I know a lot of automotive journalists that complain about auto wipe systems, but aside from that extra wipe, I find mine work very well, not activating needlessly and picking up the speed when the rain/snow gets heavy.
