  1. Hello all, I'm about to buy a 99 RX300 but how can I tell if it is a FWD or AWD?! Does the AWD have 4X4 all the time or you shif manually whenever it is needed?!
  2. Problem found exactly as you guys described. Check the attached picture so you can see what went wrong: Many thanks to Lexus Owners Club members

  4. Whenever I hit on the brake (Park or Drive mode): - The Instrument Cluster lights go off - The "R" Reverse light on the Instrument Cluster lids on - The RPM kick up while on "D" (Car thinks it needs to go in reverse) !! I have unplugged the battery cable for resetting but that didn't help. It sounds like there is a short somewhere!! Please advice? Thanks, 91 LS400
  5. Attached is the before and after for the CHROME GRILL Inserts Kit that I got from eBay: autogrilles

  7. - A/C was working fine last summer, compressor used to make loud humming sound. - Now days, when I pushed the A/C button, I didn't notice any extra load on the engine, and there is NO cold air blowing. Usually the RPM level changes as soon as you turn on the A/C (A/C light does NOT blinks) - Alternator got replaced in winter time. Q. - Do I need to charge the A/C? - Is it possible that wires got lose while replacing the alternator? - Could the compressor have gotten bad due to the old humming sound?! Any feedback would be appreciated

  10. Anothere same prob on my 91 - Some of those AutoZone shocks might be bad already. I guess I'll try PepBoys shocks next time.
  11. I bought a pair from AutoZone store and when I installed one side the struts seems to be frozen from inside and I wasn't able to compress it. My hood almost got bended and the struts wouldn’t work. I returned that pair and purchased another set from a different store in a different state. The second set seems to have the same problem ant they got returned as well. Should I try a third set or what?! My hood now is supported by one old bad strut.
  12. Does anybody know what went wrong in this picture?! Found it in eBay, Item # 4500426970 for 90 LS400 with a DAMAGE in the DRIVER SIDE!
  13. Reset your ECU before you go for testing!

  15. I'm having the same problem on my 91 LS. Sound is driving me crazy...
  16. Could somebody post the location for that filter?!
  17. Just got my car fixed at a local mechanic shop. Alternator was dead. Quick notes to all: - For Lexus's with Air Suspension type of Struts, the air pumps will NOT operate if your alternator goes bad. Pumping air will be automatically disabled to prevent the battery from a quick discharge! Or, the battery charge is not strong enough to run the pumps! - Next time you start the engine, turn off radio/CD/cassette, all lights, and do NOT power the windows...
  18. Here is link to our friend Pearson's page that shows you how to drain & flush your coolant. http://www.lexls.com/coolant.html Again, the red stuff (Prestone Extended life coolant) got recommended: http://www.prestone.com/
  19. Here are more updates (after I cleared the trouble codes by removing the EFI fuse): When I turned the ignition switch On (without starting the engine), I have noticed the "BREAK" light in the dashboard is "On" knowing that the foot emergency break is fully released!!!! After starting and driving the car, I have noticed the Air Suspension Pumps are NOT pumping. The height indicator on the dashboard is showing "high" even when I pressed on the height button to the NORMAL height!!!! Again, My "Battery", "Add coolant", "Add engine oil", and "Break" lights are still On after starting the car. If I'm having a bad alternator, the electrical system wouldn't know that till you start the engine, RIGHT?!! If the is the case, Why the previous mentioned lights were On even before I started the car?!!!! (except the battery light which it should but not others). Should I drop the car off at Lexus dealer to diagnose the problem? Please advice.
  20. My 91 LS was parked on a sunny day and it was very hot when I got inside. Same time I was starting the car I was pressing all my four fingers on the four window switches. Right after the engine started, the battery, brakes, coolant, and add engine oil lights showed up on the dash board. DID I FRY THE ALTERNATOR!! While the engine is running, I unplugged the + wire connected to the battery and the engine died right away. This means the alternator is not producing juice, RIGHT?! Could it be a fuse that got blown out?! My P/S pump is kind of oily wet and I have never experienced any leakage problem. Fluid level never went low in the past BUT my steering is kind of HARD. On a cold morning, steering seems to be soft and get harder after the engine temperature gets higher. Would replacing the P/S pump fix my hard steering problem?! If I am having a bad alternator, do you guys recommend replacing the P/S pump at the same labor time?! AUTOZONE should have those two parts as a rebuilt, are they any good? Your comments are greatly appreciated.
  21. Again, HUMIDITY is the major cause for my problem. "Humidity always affects the density of air since humid air is denser than dry air" I got that from: http://home.wxs.nl/~Jennit/Technical/Air_Flow.htm Any more ideas?!
  22. Hello all, I own a 91 LS400 with 145K having hesitating and jerking problem that initiated both the engine and the track light on (caused the engine to die sometimes). This problem happens mostly in the morning time whenever the HUMIDITY is kind of HIGH outside, same thing on a rainy day 2-3 minutes right after I start driving. Not to forget, mufflers seem to be spitting with bad smell. I got code 31 after diagnosing the problem which indicates to "Air Flow Meter" http://www.troublecodes.net/Lexus/ - Will replacing the AFM fix my problem for sure? - How about cleaning the existing AFM with "STP throttle body and air intake cleaner"? - Can anything be done after remove the 3 screws on top of the sensor? Please advice.
