  1. I posted so fast, that I didn't see a post from below quoting $1000+. That seems really high. No place i called said that. My car is a 90 LS400 with very little miles (90K). You know you're going to get screwed when the guy calls you up and says "we got a small problem here". Also, another question, but in general, shoudl you go to the place that AAA recommends? again, thanks a ton for any help.
  2. I'm lousy with mechanics and can't tell a good one for a bad one. My starter just went out. AAA convinced me to go to this place....but they are going to charge me $860+ for the job to replace. They said the part was $270 or so (dealership part he said) and 6 hours of labor. WHen i had called places earlier in the day, they said it would be about $650 or so with 5 hours of labor. WHat is a good price? Thanks in advance.
  3. My AC light flashes also and it makes a really bad sound. I took it in, and they said it was a bad compressor. But the expense to get it fixed was pretty high for me, like over a grand. What is a good price for this and is there any ways I can bring down the price (buy the part ahead of time etc....?) I';ve got a 90 ls400 and from what I read in here, this is all pretty common.
  4. Do I take off the whole tool kit?
  5. This is so basic i'm almost embarrased to ask, but I can't find it in here anywhere. Can anyone tell me how to remove the inside panels so I can get to the power antenna assembly. I can't see directions for it anywhere, and it might be informative for us newbies who might need to get into these panels for any reason. What do I have to undo. I'm almost there, but I think there are some nuts that I'm not releasing or something. I'm talking about the carpet stuff, and I don't want to pull too hard for fear of riping something. I have a 90 LS 400. thanks. I have all the directions for the antenna.
  6. Thanks all. Are tehy reaally french? That would about put the nail in the coffin for me. I'm not going to ask what country the BF goodrich ones are, but i think i'm going with those. Costco sale ends on the 27th I think.
  7. I found this site from another string. Its pretty great. http://www.tirerack.com/ I'm probably going to go with the BF because it doesn't look like that much of a drop off from the energy's and SW0 is right, they are overpriced, compared to that site.
  8. Thanks 99ls, I was all set to buy the Michilens, now I don't know what to do cuz of SW0..argh :) just kidding. Can I just get the BF Goodrich ones or are they considered too "cheap". I don't know the difference in rides between any of them. I don't mind spending more though if its worth it. thanks everyone
  9. acutally doing that WOULD beat the price! :)
  10. I'm going to sound like the biggest idiot here, but what exactly are the bushes...is it like the suspension? And how do you know when you need to replace them? I have about 90K miles. Hopefully, i'm not the onlyh one with that question.
  11. almighty if you have started your fix on it, i'd love to hear how it is going or went. Good luck wiht itl
  12. Is this the common problem that needs to be fixed in regards to the powersteering leak? With the help of a friend who knows about cars, i am going to try and fix this myself. A couple questions, A: is it possible without a special tool and B: do i need any other parts to replace. If someone could give a quick go over as to what to do to fix this, I would definately appreciate it. Its amazing that everyone has nearly the same problem. I am not interested in replacing the alternator, even though I have a feeling it has been leaked on, becuase I get the white smoke. Is that ok too? SOrry for all the questions, I appreciate all the advice you guys give, and you guys have made me enjoy fixing things for the first time in my car. Hopefully I'm not biting off more than I can chew. (but my friend is really good at cars)
  13. Ok what about Michelin or Goodrich tires... I know this sounds cheap, but they are having a good sale at costco on tires. Don't kill me. but I need some new ones. I'll spend more if you all really think I will notice the difference, but I'd prefer to spend less if possible. The tires they offer Michelin® Energy MXV4+ P205/65VR15 $141.99 Michelin® Pilot® Primacy™ 205/65R15 $134.99 BFGoodrich® Touring T/A P205/65VR15 $84.99 What do you think? (its $80 off if you buy 4) Again, i can spend more, but as with everyone, i'd prefer not to. thanks in advance
  14. Thanks. I'm going to give that autozone solution a try. Can't beat the price.
  15. Thats just weird they didn't think of that. Missing the fact that you DIDN'T actually lock the doors could be a big problem. Especially in Los Angeles. Oh well, I'm just happy it works. thanks.
