  1. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...st&p=101650 Check this post out.
  2. I think you can also test it by hooking the leads up momentarily to the car's battery with some wire.
  3. I know how you feel. Don't lose hope. You could probably try looking for a new solenoid at a junkyard.
  4. I am a little confused as to what the "power steering control valve" is, or even where it is on the '97. I believe you also called it the power steering air control valve.
  5. Also, strangely the popping noise does not happen at all when the car is cold. However, when it warms up, it becomes very frequent.
  6. BLAST.. Why won't the original poster respond to my PMs and emails!!!! He has the answer to my problem!!!!!!!
  7. By the way, you say the power steering control valve is very easy to change on a '95-'97. Does this mean that I could do the same modification you did in 5 minutes?
  8. I have no idea what the popping noise sounds like from the outside, but it doesn't seem like it's as loud as yours was.
  9. Did your car make that noise when driving forwards instead of reverse? Was it worse going one direction vs. the other?
  10. Hi, I've had this noise for several months that started out very intermittent but is recently getting much more frequent and repeatable. It is a pretty significant popping "sound" that I can also feel with my feet through the floor pan. It is not rhythmic, and it happens repeatedly if I make a right hand turn. It can also happen at speed when driving in a straight line if I suddenly steer to the right (even before the weight of the car seems to transfer to the left side). It appears to be coming from the right front area of the car, and the noise only appears to happen when I am moving. FYI, the car is a '97 LS400 with about 107,000 miles on it. I have recently replaced the front sway bar bushings, the front strut rods/bushings, and the upper strut mounts. Last time I had everything apart (to replace the upper strut mounts), I checked the resistance of the ball joints on the upper carrier arms and they seemed to offer up a decent amount of resistance. I'm not sure if there are other "ball joints" on the car. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? It almost feels like something is binding up.
  11. Thanks for that insight. I may do just that.
  12. You don't think the engine computer knows EXACTLY how much gas is going into the engine? :P What is this? 1970? I agree, the gas mileage is not bad for such a large car. But then again, it is pretty lightweight by luxury car standards! Lexus did a good job!
  13. He thinks Lexus are boring... because they are! I did not buy my LS to be inspired. What it lacks in excitement, it more than makes up for in refinement and class.
  14. I would trust the trip computer. Gas pumps are all different and don't fill up to the same level consistently. If only they could get that city mileage up to near 20...
  15. Interesting video. But what a boring show it used to be!
  16. Is there a way that I can check them out myself?
  17. How long did it take you from start to finish? Including jacking the car up and taking it down! And soaking all of those bolts or whatever in PB Blaster?
  18. I'll believe it when I see it! What does it do? Hook up to the transmission computer or something?
  19. Blast! The noise is back. Doesn't seem as loud as before. I wonder if the noise stopped because whatever was causing the noise was wet from the carwash, and now that it's dry, it has started making the noise again.
  20. Well anyhow, I took a 500 mile road trip this weekend. The car continued to make the noise when I arrived at my destination, and also made the noise when I came home. On a hunch, and also because my car was getting pretty dirty, I decided to take the car to an automatic carwash with a powerful undercarriage wash. To my surprise, following the carwash, the noise is completely gone! I wonder what it could have been. Leaves? Twigs? I'm crossing my fingers in the hopes that the noise never comes back.
  21. When is Lexus going to come out with an LS that rivals the AMG version of the S class from Mercedes?!
  22. My '97 LS400's speedometer is dead-on-balls accurate. It seems to me that they started inflating the speedometer readings in 1998.
  23. Yes, that saddle tan option is exquisite!
  24. I think the "mis-calibration" is intentional on the part of Lexus. They want you to drive slower! The car knows exactly how fast it's going!
