  1. That "A" ( i think you mean "AFS"?) button is for the left and right movement (if you even have the AFS system). The 04-09 Rx's were offered with either halogen w/o auto-leveling nor AFS, HID with auto-leveling and AFS, or HID with just auto-leveling. Either way, you don't need to touch the AFS to adjust the up and down auto leveling height. There are two ways to adjust the height. First, manually using the adjustment screws on the headlights themselves, or you can find the auto-leveling switch under the car, and bend the arm a little so the car 'thinks' it needs to raise them mimicking less weight in the rear of the car.
  2. "can be obtained by putting a small amount of Marine Glue or "Goop" on a piece of paper and putting it under a seat or two." -I never thought about this one! I have a cold right now (can't smell a darn thing :( ) but when it's cleared i will put my nose to the test. 14. Goop "I've been using the Griot's leather cleaner, and it smells like leather." -I've got some on the way, i will add that to the test! 15. Griot's Leather Care linth, which meguiar's product are you talking about; the leather treatment or something else? I love their OLD tire shine (the new one is odorless...) it smelled like cotton candy! 16. Meguiars (?) "reco?" -What do you mean reco? I tried googling it with leather, new car scent, as keywords with no results =/ 17. reco (?) Yeah, the carxent isn't sold in the US as far as i could tell. Even i you google it, there are few results. I happened to come across a Philippine forum where someone was talking about the stuff. I e-mailed him and he purchased some for me, and sent it to me (had to pay him $68 GRRR). I guess it solved my curiosity though even though it's useless... roadmonster, where did your friend buy the carxent??? i couldn't find any retailers here in the US OR online... They have a few cents in addition to "leather scent" like "curves" "fierce" "mango crisp" and "blue steel" which all smell like perfumes/deodorant lol. And i've tried the fabreeze auto, it's fresh but not the new car smell :( I am absolutely DETERMINED, if not to find the BEST product, to at least try everything i can get ahold of. I read a comment someone mentioning this 'demeter' stuff, ever hear of it? I think it's a woman's perfume name?
  3. Hey guys/gals. A while ago i started looking for the best "new car scent" sprays or any other way to get my car to have that brand new smell again. I don't smoke, and the car isn't that dirty, it's just that the new car smell is gone and i wanted to get it back :) I searched everywhere, and i mean EVERYWHERE i could. I google-searched, tried local auto shops; everything i could- to get the right "new car" scent. I purchased quite a few products based on research and their names, and thought i would post some of my opinions on each. Here are some of the products i have tried and my opinions about each of them. 1. "Little Trees" New car scent air freshener (the kind you hang from a mirror) -Got it from Autozone RESULTS: AWFUL. There is absolutely No resemblance to the new car smell what-so-ever. The smell is offensive and very strong. 2. "Zaino" Z-10 Leather in a bottle (leather conditioner) -Got it offline RESULTS: No resemblance to the new car smell. It's not an "awful" smell, it just doesn't smell like a new car. 3. "Leatherique" Prestine clean Leather cleaner - Got it from AutoGeek online RESULTS: This stuff brings out a good smell from leather when used. Doesn't smell like the new car smell, but does seem to help when used on the leather. 4. "Blue Water Productions" Leather Smell (in a bottle) -Got it off eBay RESULTS: Doesn't smell anything like the new car smell. Kind of smells like perfume? Useless 5. "Carxent" Leather Scent -Got this from the Philippines, someone suggested it RESULTS: Smells "interesting" but no resemblance to the new car smell. 6. "Zymol" Leather Cleaner- Got this from either Target or Walmart RESULTS: Smells like a mix between the carxent and prestine clean. No resembelance to the new car smell, but does help when used on leather. 7. V7 Car Perfume Spray -Got this from the Philippines, someone suggested it RESULTS: Smells EXACTLY like the crap in the "little trees" air freshener. AWFUL, NO resemblance to the new car smell. 8. Meguiars Vinyl & Leather Cleaner #40 -Got this from online, many suggested it. RESULTS: Kind of smells like a mixture of all the above. Doesn't smell ANYTHING like the new car smell. Out of all of these, i wouldn't suggest using any if you're attempting to get that "new car smell' back. If your goal is to condition your leather, use the leatherique prestine clean OR Zymol if you're concerned about the odor, but they won't give you that true new car smell. There are a few other products i'd like to try or are even on their way. They are: 9. Ozium New Car Smell 10. "Angel Scent Aromas" Leather New Car Scent Home & Auto Spray (from ebay) 11. Demeter "New Money" scent (found review stating it was perfect match to new car smell, but i can't find where to purchase...) 12. Demeter "New car Scent"(can't find where to purchase...) 13. "Lane's" New Car Scent - from online I read a response from a Lexus forum (don't remember which one) where a member found a roll of tape that smelled just like the new car smell. He put it under his seat and presto the smell was back! I tried to contact him asking the brand name with no response... Also i've heard responses suggesting throwing a new vinyl shower curtain under the seat, but i'm not sure which one i should use. Can anyone suggest any other products out there that have the true new car smell? Please no comments on how bad the smell is, i'm just looking for ideas on where i can find a better product. Thanks, please comment! :)
  4. I have the same whine on my 03 rx300 awd while driving right after start-up. Never noticed it until this year... hmmm?
  5. Yeah, i'll admit i'm using the blue Autozone ones I need to bite the bullet and get the good ones.
  6. Oh my god, no microfiber on glass please :o Unless you're using a brand new $100 microfiber towel, the little 'fibers' from the material will be left behind and 'static' cling to the glass. They will be a PITA to remove. Just use a cotton towel. This is from experience...
  7. If your bulb is burned out, i can sell you one if you pay for shipping. I've done a few gauge cluster modifications and i have a TON of extra rx300 gauge parts, including bulbs. Just let me know.
  8. This 'coating' is on the outside of the front windshield, and on the front driver and passenger windows. It's not 'new', it's been on every Lexus model for ~10 yrs or so. It can be cleaned just like any other window, just use car soap or whatever. It's not a 'soft' coating or anything that you should be afraid of. For the insider glass, just use a damp cloth.
  9. The blue light is only illuminated when the "high beams" are switched on. The little green light is on when the low means are on. If the blue high beam pilot light is burned out, it means you're using your high beams too often. I hope you haven't been blinding people for this long :P
  10. Leatherique works pretty well for lifting out dirt and softening up the leather. But i wouldn't make a habit of using it too often as conditioners can degrade the stitching. A few times a year is good enough. Gentle scrubbing with a cotton rag and the leatherique rejuvenation oil will be your best bet besides having it refinished by an upholsterer.
  11. ah sorry, both front seat bottoms and armrests sold. I still have the headrests and seat backs for sale.
  12. Here are the pics driver seat bottom: front passenger bottom: headrests and armrests, including hardware + caps: i have a lot of bites on these. If you're interested PM immediately for shipping price, first to send payment will get them.
  13. Hey guys/gals. I recently purchased a whole set of coach leather seats for my 03 rx300 and i have all the parts from my original seats. I've decided instead of selling the WHOLE seats (which weigh more than i do..) i would sell piece by piece. I know many rx300 owners have really bad leather, cracked, faded, ripped etc just from age. I managed to remove the drivers seat bottoms and i can sell them to you if anyone's interested. They're in perfect condition in the TAN color. No rips, tears... you guys know how meticulous i am about my leather. Always treated with leatherique to keep them nice and soft. I will post pics if you're interested. It takes about 10 mins to install if you can remove the plastic side skirts. Just 4 bolts and 2 plugs that connect them to the seat frame. I have the drivers side and passengers side seat bottoms. Heated seat elements included and working 100%. I also have both front headrests and armrests, all in basically perfect condition. Will fit any 99-03 rx300 with the tan interior. Heated seats or not. They're going up on ebay if no one seems to want them here. Just thought i'd give you guys the heads up and a better offer first since we're all members! Please let me know if you want them. Seat bottoms $50 each, armrests $25 each, headrests also $25 each. Plus shipping. Thanks and i hope they can help someone out
  14. mines an '03 not 05, makes a difference lol
  15. GRRR.. i guess the problem is that we just don't know. :( At those prices... i'd may as well just keep my transmission the way it is and pray for no failure. Hopefully if it ever does decide to fail, Lexus will help with the bill, maybe offer something from their "good will" charity based on the fact that the car's been babied and i had the fluid flushed by toyota (kept the paperwork ;) ). although, i highly doubt it based on all of your stories :(
  16. Well, all i know is that the magic eraser is an abrasive that contains several solvents; even a formaldehyde bi-product. Both of which are bad for dyed leather. I suppose isolated uses could be ok, but regular use could do a lot of harm.
  17. So Lexus made a steal replacement part for the transmission? My 03 rx300 awd has ~78k miles on it today. I had the transmission fluid flushed by toyota (replaced with oem fluid) last year at 60k miles. The fluid still looked and smelled brand new but i decided based on all the info here that it would be a good decision. Well today the fluid still looks and smells brand new. No signs of failure. Would it be recommended for someone in my position (with nice fluid and who's planning on keeping the car for many years ahead) to have this "new" steal part replaced now while there's not much debris in there? Would this be less costly than having it fail later on? Maybe replacing this part with the steal one would prevent the total failure further down the road? What do you think? BTW the car was purchased jun '05 as a CPO and we added an additional 2 years to that at purchase. So the car's covered until jun'10.
  18. The dimensions match those of the Corolla...
  19. There's no "special" UV coating or anything on the surface of the headlight plastic from the factory... The surface is just harder because it cures faster because it's on the surface. After a while, the new surface you've exposed by wet-sanding and polishing will become hard and act just as it did before.
  20. 2020.... hybrid might be out of style by then, hydrogen might be "in". My guess is the economy's gonna be fine by then and no one's gonna give two craps about hybrids :(
  21. I'm sure Lexus would have figured out these little markings were just fibers. I'm assuming the marks in question are stationary? Plus, if so many other models on the lot have the problem, well... Lexus doesn't detail the windshields with microfiber towels...
  22. Lexus headlight plastic does not have any special UV coatings that wet-sanding will remove. Maybe some other companies do, but Lexus does not. Headlight plastic is approx 1/4 inch thick; there plenty of opportunities to wet-sand without going through... If you did the procedure once a year for 10 years you'd still be fine. Well worth the results in my book. I've done quite a few headlight retrofits. I know what coating you're speaking of, but it's not present in Lexus. After completing a retro i do a complimentary wet-sand and polish for my customers. I know the headlights with this 'coating'- it's quite hard to sand through. Lexus, not so.
  23. Take it back to the dealer since it's under warranty. Normal paint shouldn't etch from a few spills of gasoline. Paint is covered under the warranty. They will do their best to remove the stain, and if they're unsuccessful, they'll have it repainted.
  24. Can you take some pictures and post them here? If the scratch is still visible when washing the car (when water is over the scratch) my guess is it's through the clearcoat and took some of the color away. What color is your car again? With water on the scratch, if it was just in the clear, the water would fill the gap and the scratch would disappear. As for the chip, all you can do is get some touch up paint and add a layer or two a day until the chip is filled and rising above the surrounding area. Then you can take 1500grit sandpaper and sand the chip down. If you're careful, you can fill the chip in very nicely. If you're NOT careful, you can sand the surrounding clearcoat off showing the base color, and that's BAD.
