  1. Do a test maybe? If it's giving power even after the key is out, i highly doubt it's on a time delay relay, it must just give juice all the time. Install your own delay relay, get one 12V NO.
  2. The Rx300 is an excellent vehicle, aside from the soft transmission which has plagued a few owners... It's really well built an rides like a dream though. I had an 03, from 05 - earlier this year, loved it. I wouldn't let this minor issue make you feel any less confident in the Lexus name, it could happen to any car. Has your Rx300 been in an accident before, or has anyone ever removed the front headlights before? Constant use of those plugs could cause a wire to come loose, it's not a big deal as long as it's fixed properly. Any you can use the crimp method, i recommend it actually. I had switched my old Rx300 front turn signal bulbs to LED's- and in doing so needed to place a load resistor across the + and - wires. Used the crimp method, and they held up perfectly even after 3+ years. And they were outside of the headlight within all the elements. It's the easiest and most efficient way outside of soldering (which can degrade faster). Just make sure to seal the bonds with silicone or electrical tape after you've crimped the wires. <_<
  3. When i had my Rx300 i bought some seats on ebay i wanted installed (they were the coach editions) and went to lexus to ask if their leather people could touch them up. When i asked about price, the lexus service guy told me if i scheduled it with Lexus, it would cost more than if i had their leather people do it at my house per say, paying them directly. The lexus guy also told me if i went with the latter then Lexus wouldn't warranty the work. I guess the extra $20 paying lexus direct covers the warranty they would provide. And this was Jan of this year, and my Rx300 was a 2003... I know if you go through Lexus, in general you will have leverage if repairs don't hold up, even if Lexus outsources the labor. It would be the same if you payed Lexus to have body work done. You pay lexus, but they just take it to an everyday repair shop. If the repairs fail, you go to Lexus and they work with the body shop.
  4. The new smart key feature doesn't have the key plug in anywhere, it can stay in your pocket the whole time if you want. There's no "special" spot where it can act like an old fashioned key unfortunately. As for the leather, semi-aniline is leather that's been dyed all the way through, whereas normal leather just gets a thick coat on top. It's supposed to make the leather feel "softer". Only flaw is that it gets dingy very easily; jeans will stain it blue, it will wear quicker, it's definitely more sensitive. You'll see leather this on the newer LS and some ES models' leather. If you take care of it, it will be nice- but if not, you probably won't like it over time.
  5. Oh, if yours is a 2000 is must be the halogen type. On the back of your headlights you'll just see the base of the bulb (low beam) coming out of the back, which plugs into a male plug, attached to a wire going into the darkness of the engine compartment. I'm going to guess there must be a loose wire that attaches into that male plug which attaches to the back of the bulb. You do NOT need a new harness. Toyota or Lexus won't do a harness "repair" (the easiest and most obvious thing to do), they only replace entire parts. That harness is probably 5+ft long, weaving between engine parts, somewhere going through the firewall, i bet it would take HOURS for someone to trace, remove and install an entire new harness... You just need someone to cut the old female plug off, and splice on a new female plug. It's quite easy to do, you only need a wire cutter and a pliers. At least this is what i "think" the problem is...
  6. Don't ask the leather people to do the job "outside of lexus". Yes it might be a hair cheaper, but Lexus won't cover the repair. If the leather people did the repair under Lexus (through lexus)- Lexus would cover the repair even if your car's out of warranty. If you ask the leather people to do it without Lexus knowing about it, if the repairs come out crappy or don't hold up, Lexus won't make them do it again...
  7. Are your headlights the HID version or Halogen version? I'm going to assume HID since the halogen version doesn't have an external harness. What year is your Rx300? 01-03? Which area of the harness need to be "wiggled" to cause the flickering (meaning what area is broken)? When they told you $2000, did they mean for the entire headlight or a harness? The harness is attached to the headlight is that why so high? I know a lot about the HID Rx300 headlights, i might be able to help if i know what exactly is broken.
  8. At least here in RI, mostly every car dealer uses the SAME leather repair company. Even the local auto body shops use these guys, they work out of a truck and go to each of the locations when they're needed. They've got SO much experience...

  10. The door panels are vinyl, but the people who work on leather work on vinyl just as often, same basic process.

  12. Damn! This is the second complaint from a 010 Rx350 owner about this :P Lexus, you listening? ;) If you want, you could do a little wiring; buy a used lighter socket from ebay, drill a hole in the upper dash somewhere, put it in, and wire it to the other one below. Might not look that bad :)
  13. Interesting discussion; I once asked my Lexus stealer why they didn't include the spare in tire rotation and he just said they don't (no explanation). Perhaps this is why? Begs the question of what to do when you get a flat (especially when tires are near end of life). Presumably it's a good idea to get the flat fixed quickly and don't do too many miles with the full diameter spare on one wheel. Definitely why <_<
  14. The manual recommends using a mid-grade gas or higher, but it's been proven 87 will work just fine. Your mileage just might suffer a tad, that's about it. And you might have to worry about the fuel filter and sensors going early down the line, but probably won't outweigh the difference in gas costs.

  16. I'll be honest- I don't know what the "AUTO" button does. I don't think any Lexus owner knows what it does actually. All it seems to do is blow the fan at max speed. I played with it for a while on my previous Rx300, and couldn't understand what it was good for.
  17. You could try the phone book for some local leather reupholsters, but i would suggest having the dealer leather guys do it. They're the best! And of course there are some DIY "kits" for leather repair, but i wouldn't go there... They're either hit or miss.
  18. I really like the design of the Prius, both generations. It just fits- i mean you look at it, and you think "hybrid". And it still screams classy to me. Toyota did a good job combining the "hybrid look" and class with the Prius. I just don't think the HS "works", especially not for Lexus. They should've just made the ES into a hybrid. I think the style of the HS might scare away Lexus buyers... It's a little too "different" from the style of the other models.

  20. I haven't seen one in person, but the "new" Taurus looks pretty nice from the commercial. Apparently it's got a lot of power- they show it passing an Audi on the commercial... I also agree the new Escalade's and Tahoes's are pretty damn good looking. If they weren't so expensive and such gas guzzlers, and had better anticipated reliability...
  21. You're right! After driving for a while (after having 7 bars) it decreased by one and they turned blue again. I swear i've never seen them green, i guess because i've never seen the battery go up to 7 or 8 bars before today I "reset" the MPG calculator in the nav menu before my trip (after starting with 7 bars). When i got back home (to school and back, maybe 7mi each direction 35-45mph) i had averaged 28.5MPG!! Maybe because there was more power from the battery meaning less power needed from the engine? When i got back, i had 6 bars. I did the procedure again. After maybe 40sec or so, it went up to 7 bars, but even after another minute, wouldn't go up to that 8th bar I was afraid to keep it going any longer... I think it's pretty interesting how this gets your battery charged. I didn't know there was such an easy way to do it! :) Maybe the 08 doesn't need this procedure to reset the ISC or anything, but it certainly recharges your battery. <_< nice find lemon :D thanks!
  22. Nope, never had it turn green before. Also never 'noticed' it turning purple when it gets low, but i 'could' just not remember... I've never seen the battery display more than 6/8 bars before, never had it fully charged. People say it's normal... But i like this method to get the battery fully charged :D I like having all the power i can get hehe :D I just hope it's not harmful for the car, to hold down the brake and accelerator at the same time?
  23. Damn KillerFatty, i feel your pain... I'm 20yrs old. I've actually hit a hydrant too lol, ripped out the whole right side moldings of my previous Rx300, looked similar to your damage back in Jan... I bet you stare that hydrant down everytime you pass it now, eh? lol. Just feel good that no other cars were involved in this accident- THAT'S when it becomes a pain in the bum. Can you post pics of the damage? I don't think you can replace a rear 1/4 panel by yourself- i think it needs to be welded on; a lot of work involved in that... But i'm sure there's an easier way to fix it- something that wouldn't last 10 years, but'll do you for a while. And don't be afraid to search ebay for parts, you might be able to even find parts painted to your color :) Don't worry, it'll be ok <_< As soon as it's fixed you won't think about it anymore.
  24. Oh yeah, you definitely need the nav screen unit (different unit than the info screen you have) if you want to use it as a nav or any type of "tv" screen. The info screen can only display certain characters. No little pixels, just larger pixels that are either ON or OFF, either black or clear. The nav screen unit is literally a monitor with many many pixels with endless colors.
