  2. It can only heat the air so fast... I would suggest setting the temp to MAX HOT (or whatever temp you're looking for) and set the fan speed to "LOW" and close your vent. The system will still produce heat to whichever temp you've set, it'll just blow it at a lower speed... Then, increase the fan speed later on and open your vent.
  3. In what car does the ac/heating system work that way? It's either ON or OFF. If it's ON, it's going to blow out whatever air it "can" heat (or cool) based on whichever fan speed you've set. If it's OFF, then it's not going to heat (or cool) nor blow any air.   4. So both the light in the dash AND the light on the console are lit... What does it say to do in the manual when both are lit? It's odd that both the driver and passenger airbag lights are giving off warnings... There's gotta be a short somewhere in the entire system... Does your RX have the feature that produces a chime whenever you begin to drive when you (or the front seat passenger) don't have their seatbelts on? If so, have someone sit in the passengers seat and drive around for a minute or so- see if the chime comes on. Then, buckel your belts and see if the chime goes off (which it should). If the chime persists, then that's a sign something is wrong. The airbag system takes info in from the pressure sensor in the passenger seat bottom (to determine if anyone is sitting there) AND determines whether or not passengers are wearing their seatbelts. If any of these sensors are faulty, it might be causing this...
  5. Well, the solution all depends on how the needles work. If you can take pictures (of both the MPH half-lit needle and RPM needle) i can identify how the needles work (they're either illuminated by several really tiny SMD's placed along the length of the needles, or illuminated by a single LED at the head) and can offer suggestions as to how they need to be fixed.

  7. Well, it's either the ballasts or a computer issue. The ballasts in the IS are made by DENSO, the same company who makes the ballasts for ALL the Lexus vehicles, going as far back as 1998 for the LS. I've very, VERY rarely heard of these ballasts going out on any other Lexus' and personally i think they're the best out there. I find it odd that there are so many reports of 07+ IS headlights having this issue considering they use the same ballasts as every other Lexus. This leads me to believe that there is an issue within the car itself, maybe before the voltage even reaches the ballasts. But i'm not sure what that might be... I would take it to the dealer... They're the only ones that i'm aware of that can figure out what the issue is. Plus, this issue is VERY common among the 07+ IS's so i'm pretty sure Lexus knows exactly what's wrong. It "could" be the ballasts that are going out, but it doesn't seem logical and doesn't explain the "switching" of ON and OFF between the left and right headlight. To me it sounds like an ECU problem...
  8. You can't come onto a Lexus owners club website, throwing out insults about the company and expect us to be happy with your responses, it just doesn't work that way. Your RX isn't experiencing a transmission problem, as that's how it was designed. My Rx has similar quirks, (some of which are annoyances), but i was fully aware of them before the car was purchased. You cannot blame the car for functioning as designed. If you don't like it, then as i said before, sell it and buy another brand. Because the issues you're having with your RX are NOT going to go away- they're characteristics of the car. There is nothing your dealer or any of us can do to change that. So this IS our advice to you.
  9. Unfortunately there aren't many other companies that fix these parts because Lextech has a patent. Their work isn't very good, but its your only option unless you do it yourself.

  11. Fortunately i didn't "have to" add anything. Just heat up the factory sealant and pry open, then re-heat and press the pieces back together. However i "did" add GOOP all the way around just as a precaution... <_<
  12. Very true, the auto wipers don't work when it's misty. Other than that, they work GREAT though. It's not too much effort to just pull the lever the one or two times needed when they don't kick-in quickly enough.

  14. I think the only solution was to remove ones foot from the gas pedal too... Never heard of this happening to the older Lexus'. <_<
  15. Why are you under the impression that a new gauge cluster will fix your problem? Also be aware that when installing a new cluster the mileage will read to whichever car it came from...
  16. Are you sure the problem is the bulb? It could also be a ballast or computer issue. Try new bulbs (since after 12 years your old bulbs are putting out MUCH less light...) and if it doesn't fix the issue then look for a new ballast. Best place for bulbs is eBay. Philips D2R 4300k #85126 i think.
  17. Stupid question, but did you test drive it before you purchased? And to say that "you'll never buy another Lexus because of this" and that you "hate Lexus" is very immature. I would suggest that you go back to your Honda or any other high-end vehicle. If the fastest and best selling Lexus SUV isn't good enough for you, you might want to check out the Kia Sorento.
  18. And this is for a 2007 IS?? Woah... first time i've heard of this happening to the newer Lexus'. I'm not sure how the 07+ IS needles are illuminated... can you take some detailed pictures and post them up?
  19. Good points, there are a lot of nice things about the car, but there are also a lot of inconvenient ones. I have to disagree on the air conditioning system. I think what you're describing is the "AUTO" function. My first Lexus was an Rx300 which had the same feature as my Rx400h does. In the 5 years of driving with this system, i still can't get the "AUTO" feature to keep up with my needs. It either blows at MAX speed, or shuts off the "re-circulate" or changes which vents to blow from... it's a pain in my butt. Plus in the Rx400h to change the temperature you need to press the "up" or "down" button once, for every degree. So if you enter the car and it's set to 65, you've gotta hit it literally 20 times to get it up to 85! On the Rx300 you just rotated a little dial and you could move from one degree to the next VERY quickly. It might not seem like a big deal, but it's very time consuming. It's also pretty annoying when you've gotta do it every morning (when it's FREEZING) and every afternoon (when the car's heated up from the sun) and again at night (when it's cold again)... In the frigid fall mornings of RI, i've gotta set it to MAX HOT with medium fan speed (i HATE fast speed, as it doesn't actually make the car hotter quicker, just blows the cold air faster and makes a ton of noise) then have to set it back down to 73 when i get in the car later on. I wish Lexus just made it simple like on any other car; one dial for temp (BLUE on one side for cold, and RED on the other for hot), one dial for vent position, and one for fan speed. The same is true for the volume control button on the steering wheel. On the radio itself it has a rotating dial which can quickly control the volume, but the steering wheel control is the same type of switch as the temp button; you've gotta hit either the "up" or "down" once, for ever integer of sound. So to go from "min" loudness to "average" loudness, you've gotta hit it about 30 times! 0 being low volume and 30 being average. And for the DRL's, the only reason they use the HIGH BEAM bulbs at lower power for DRL is because 1.) at full power, even during the day, they're blinding! (try it and you'll see, even during the day the high beam lights are dangerously bright) and 2.) they're too cheap to come up with some creative technique like Audi or BMW using LED's or Halo's... Not that i like either (because i don't) but it would be creative... But i will give credit to the automatic windshield wipers, and ESPECIALLY the back-up camera. Every weekday, 2 times a day, i've gotta parallel park at my college, and the rear camera is a NECESSITY for squeezing into tight spots. I don't know how people parallel park without it! It's nice to be able to SEE, visually, how much space you've got between your back bumper and the license plate of the car behind you. Without the camera, i'd have to move an inch, get out and check... move another inch, check, move again, so on and and so on. This feature saves me time and energy, exactly what what a car is supposed to do. <_< Sorry if this sounds very anti-Lexus, because i love it! trust me. Just being picky...

  21. Well, the 747 is mainly built here, it's the 777 and newly designed 787 that are being built all over... The fuselages are made in parts, and they're each sent separately on a "modified" 747 that Boeing calls the "Dream Lifter". Of course, with a fuel capacity of 52,609 gallons at $2/gal, it can cost close to $100,000 JUST FOR FUEL, per TRIP. I guess it beats the rate of $400,000 PER DAY to rent the Antonov A-225. "Boeing Commercial Airplanes announced on October 13, 2003 that due to the length of time required by marine shipping, air transport will be the primary method of transporting parts for the 787. Three used passenger 747-400 aircraft were to be converted into an outsize configuration in order to ferry sub-assemblies from Japan and Italy to North Charleston, South Carolina and then to Everett, Washington for final assembly." I guess it's different for transporting cars...
  22. Sounds good, just make sure you get the + and - wires matched up to the ballasts. I'm almost 99% sure you couldn't get an "error code" for this, but if you were to, it wouldn't do any harm. On my last car, the Rx300, i replaced the rear taillight bulbs with LED's and got the error light on my dash (because LED's draw less current than bulbs do, so the computer thought i had bulbs out). I "could" have installed load resistors for each, but they'd create WAY too much heat and they're hard to fit and heat-sink properly. So, i just removed the bulb in the gauge cluster! It worked just fine.
  23. You won't get any warning lights. The "bulb out" indicator only applies to the rear lights. You'll need to get a good kit, which includes a pair of ballasts and bulbs. I would make sure the bulbs are of a high quality as there are MANY out there that are JUNK. The factory HID bulbs in the Rx are Philips D2S 4300k (85122 or 85122+), which are the best out there. The color will also match. If you go with other bulbs, you'll have a color match issue. Also be aware that installing HID bulbs in halogen reflectors will cause tremendous glare, as HID bulbs have a different focal point than halogen bulbs... You also won't get as much light on the road...

  25. Nice article. <_< To me, the only thing that matters is WHO designed it, and to WHO'S standards it's being built. And of course, who can do all of this in the least expensive way. The same thing is done with airplanes now. Boeing for example, located in Seattle, WA, has parts being built all over the world (wings built in Japan, the fuselages built in Italy, etc.) which are all sent back to WA where they're assembled. They claim that these foreign countries have a better handle on some of the new technologies (ie composite materials) and state this as the reason for building parts outside of the US. My guess is that labor costs are better overseas, obviously enough to outweigh the shipping costs to get all of these massive parts across the globe. Plus, i'm sure they're trying to make foreigners feel that these planes are "part theirs" so they'll buy them. The same thing happened when American's found out some Toyota's where being built here. For some reason they're more inclined to purchase a car if some of the parts are being built where they live. It's a shame really... For some reason, people can't get over the idea that America "might not be ahead of everybody else" and isn't able build things for the same price as those in other countries...
