sorry stevie i didn't mean to sound like i was trying to shoot you down at all in any way shape or form i think that last answer was just splendid with absolutly no sarcasim implied i guess i am not anywhere to as detailed as that to posting not really trying to make an article just a quick thought i really just base the filter on k&n from my experiance with my previous cars and other shop owners who sell there products it is better for economical reasons period by the reduction of replacment costs of reg filters to me it stops there if you are looking for performance gains there is none which is what it is marketed as mainly and that is what i meant to say when i read you first post it made it seem to anyone who may not have alot of experiance with k&n that it is the main reason for the increase of milage , i still don't belive in drop in's i gave away mine to my cousin,he saw no difference ,then i got a free replacment of it and still no difference ( he does have a 3jz though) a cai is much better for flow still can be washed and increases the gas milage by 10%+ if made correctly for the right car i went from 475km a tank to 550km and i am trully sorry if you saw my comments as an attack in anyway just my opinion on a product that i feel fleeces people for performance gains but atleast gets gas milage with yours it usually takes 1/2 to all of the (recharger kit) app depending on size and imbedded dirt so you would add almost the price of a stock filter each change or cleaning also i don't think cross linking is against the other forum rules just no ebay ones but out right links might be as previously noted

First tell us about yourself and car if you have any problems or future plans of modifications Did you call lexus yet to inform them you are the new owner ? ( if bought used) or not from a lexus dealer) This will get you informed of recalls( hardly ever are any ,but just incase) Did you know you can extend the lexus roadside asisstance? It is comparable in price to AAA or CAA depending on where you are includes free tow to closest dealer, unlimited mileage also has trip interuption cost replacment,with rental and hotel free key replacment if locked out as there is no real way to break in like most if locked out( they have stories of renting a small plane to fly a key to a member who lost his keys while fishing) all i have to say they are superb,but what do you expect for a lexus Free road maps and custom binded book of map and distances with turn by turn directions plus more enjoy and welcome to the club p.s. look i the meeting section for other owners near you , to meet

the history books are full of ingenious ideas of manufactures over the past 100 years the idea of a 4 conductors is for reduction of resistance by giving the spark options as the tips wear it looks for the shortist gap to jump hope this helps

truthfully the k & n is crap sorry the change made to your vehicle is probably contributed to a new filter not it being a k &n if you had replaced the filter with a regualr filter that was new i am pretty sure the same results would be expected i had a k & n in 97 for 5 weeks it was also my 8th week of ownership so i just made all my routine maintance,including just replacing with a new air filter 3 weeks before i found 0 increase in performance and 0 increase in fuel economy sorry but the the gains are probably attributed to just that it is a new filter plus when ever you get a new thing you always want it to work great even if it only does in your mind i also had one on my moms grand prix i was 16 hadn't gone to tech school yet and hell stickers on my car made me feel kool like i modified my car still lol ( the good ol days) anyway i had one also on it and i thought it was great also i never did control the variables like a new filter compared to an old filter to get a proper baseline of performance this isn't just me trying to shoot down an idea just let you guys realize there are lot better things to spend the money on like a motorvac you will save more money in gas in like 3 months truthfully

the car is a 4 wheel disk brake system but the emergency brake is applied through the inside of the disk on the rear also i mentioned this somewhere else today but when you get new brakes you have to slowly break them in if you go back to regular driving style they will squeal you need to bed them in and start stopping early and gently for the first few 100 miles new brakes are just like when you get a new car the new parts have to break in also if you are not a very good driver(sorry) who presses the brakes hard and suddenly too often then there will be large amounts of heat causing warping of the disks ( so if you get pulsing in the pedal alot you might want to adjust you driving style as this is a tell tale sign of bad driving habits ( my mother inlaw does this alot,got her drilled and slotted rotors to help change her braking style) i hate brake dust on my rims so i brake as lightly as possible and always have before so my rotors look polished i had one guy at a show ask me if i chromed them LMAO also if the anti sqeaul shims are not placed begind the pads you will get squealing

i have had problems with my 94 es with the wipers and engine mounts a few months after the warr expired but i had to talk to lexus head office and they were great the service manger actually called me and got my car fixed 8 months after for free

most people have this problem just by age of the car the dealer is around 100 for one strut there are companys that make universal ones but have to be retrofitted to work on our cars

the bezel screws are behind the 2 little notches at the top/ underside of the bezl pop off the covers and there you will see 2 screws then it pull off don't forget you have to disconnect the bezel buttons harnesss for the reset and trip when you are pulling it out it is very easy to change a dash cluster a philips ( also called a star) scew driver and a flat head are all the tools needed and maybe 20 minutes

try it with the car running maybe a little more power will help the motor if you get the door open atleast try pushing in the magazine a bit and releasing then press the button sounds like you have power to the unit may be the motor for the disk reinserter has jammed so it cqan't realease the mag keep pressing the mag and button ofor a bit it may help

oem platinum plugs are best but any plat will do as they last longer no real preformance difference just a real pain in the sass to change and the plats last longer

first question is does the light for the eject button light up to see if it has power

just wondering does your car have a winter and summer mode for the tranny like some other cars if so then it is the reason why and you pinned it on the head the winter mode is actually a second gear start look ofr a winter and summer or sport setting by the shifter

there is some truth to the learning curve it usually changes pretty fast if you really want to find out if it is relearning (make sure there is no code in the radio first) disconnect the battery wait 5 minutes and reconnect it doesn't need this long but just for good measure this will resturn the settings back to original and the car will start all over again just as it did when new. but the hesitation may be an actual problem with the car as the tranny curve is just for shift point @ rpms meaning the tranny will shift at a higher rpm or lower rpm depending if you like the pedal heavy or not i am not sure if that year had a hesitation problem, it may have as some es have had a problem like this for a while but i don't have that year so i am not too sure one of the other guys should have a good answer

your o2 sensor can't trip your traction light? i am not sure if lexlugar is refering to the check engine light or that both lights came on

did the abs light come on also? sometime the wheel bearings start to go and when a bump in the road is hit the sensor goes out now resetting the computer is fine and this will clear the code but if it was a wheel bearing you probably wont'see a problem for a while as it takes a bit of force to move the traction control also uses the same sensor in the bearing other wise i am not sure also if a problem is registered on a lexus and goes away after 3 cyclyes of the engine off and on it will turn off the light by itself but keep the code in the memory

it is actually real easy to change the bulbs the needles are a while other situation if you havea second car to go to the dealer in to pick up the bulbs it might be very handy that is what i did just remove the 2 scrfews for the bezel around the cluster then i think another 4 hold in the cluster to the dash open off the back cover ( i think it has one) sorry i did mine 4 years ago and a simple flat head screw should remove the bulbs and its base socket with a twist takes about 35 minutes to do all bulbs about 3 bucks each

umm not sure howie but why do you think all the valves are closed if the belt snaps all it will do is prevent the cam from turning with the crank so the cam lobes will keep the valve suspended in their last position even if the piston is at tdc( top dead center) position in the cylinder the comperssion tester is fine to run it on it will register the full -/+ compression as when you do a normal compression test there is going to be full compression of the chamber wit the valves closing like when a regular engine is running for this test just wondering to your idea :) later

actually i never noticed you mentioned the belt a really good idea actually do you hear a weird noise as you turn over the engine on the left side? easiest way to make sure is to get a comperssion tester hooked up to the chamber you can buy one yourself for 10 bucks just to see real easy to pull a plug out and see if it has any compression at all truthfully i would start there once again a really good suggestion ( wish i thought of it,lol)

with regard to the spark on turning the engine over i think he might since it is not a 1mz fe which has spark controlled by the computer not a distibuter so as it turns the points still contact
