Temp. Gauge Rises But Doesnt Overheat.
SKperformance replied to Djlai's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
it is normal at start for the fan to spin slow and i have also stopped mine with my hand when just started i am not sure if it is the temp sensor but as sj said you have narrowed most components down only problem is you have messed up some of them ( the dex-cool causes o rings gaskets and hoses to swell or burst) you want to test the fan turn the ac on it will make it run at full speed the ohm meter is the best way to check a sensor but it seems to fluctuate like it should are you using a half and half mixture of coolant and water? this may also be a problem as all coolant will cause a car to run cooler and would expalin why you seem to find the coolant so expensive to flush should only need 1 - 1 1/2 jugs to fill plus water for a whole system -

i don''t know of the sludge problem from the 2 mixing,it probably is true i just don't know but makes sense the red stuff it dex-cool from texaco first used by gm in the late 80's is a higher temp than green ethlyn-glycol ( i bet i didn't spell that right) that is the biggest diffence a green coolant can be replaced to orange no adverse affects but the red coolant cannot go to green it will burst seals and gaskets you may have total destroyed you engine to save a few dollars how long has it been in there and immediatly flush the whole system with water and refill with dex cool the long life is orange and i am not sure if it is dex cool or just a longer life ethyl glycol in orange -
try the clay bar i can't tell if it is build up or the clear peeling off looks like the car was parked under some kind of dripping sap tree

where does it stop? sounds like just the plastic button is broken is there any stattic turning it up any year deck will work 92-96 with the cd option or else the cd button turns into another fm button so you end up having 2 fm buttons -

yah aquatreads are also very good tires they have a few styles now, i think 1 ,2 and some other type i used to have these on my grand prix they were excellent when new much better than the michelins but as they wore down the special tread design lost a lot of grip jsut a thought and yah you do have to factor in install prices you could get tehm put on at wal mart for like 6 bucks each and dispose of them yourself at the waste depot near you for free but i am not sure of exact prices as i am in canada and they let us only drop up to 4 tires at a time for free

you seem to have 2 problems one is coolant flow restictions and the other is you never seem to reach operating temperature need to isolate and trace both problems on the car also you never said what colour is your coolant do yourself a favour bleed the system for the hell of it it is free and takes about 30 minutes and no tools take off the rad cap startt the engine cold and wait keep a bottle of distilled water to refill the rad as it bellows if there is any air in the system it might be a ps pump being stuck in full assist do you hear a whining noise from the engine alot even when not turning the steering wheel -
i really like michelin x ones one of the best if not the best for the price and all season i had them a while ago they where great in snow rain and dry they are about 100 or less canadian not sure of usd

Temp. Gauge Rises But Doesnt Overheat.
SKperformance replied to Djlai's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
with it being forced out into the overflow tank then there is high pressure either air in the cooling system ( which usually causes an overheating problem not cooling) or thermostat sending wrong info to the ecu and temp gauge the system is made to drain and fill the tank normally ( small amount) who did the coolant change? the first mark is usually still when cold normal operating temp is halfway for the es 2nd gen (92-96) which is basically straight acrossnot facing down or up at all running cooler is better than running hotter you do have the orange coolant right? not green -
130 is way too much but i am not in the states go to www.tirerack.com if you are finding such high rates cracks come usually form a car sitting especially in the sun of using armour all your stock tires should be 15's and speed rating of h should be fine cost is your only factor for that

SKperformance replied to Djlai's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
not sure if i am reading this right but normal temp on the gauge is half way, ( in the middle ) any lower and you are running cooler it might be the temp sensor as it seems the only thing left although a normal first thought is the thermostat who changed the coolant if the mixture is too much of the dex-cool ( orange stuff) it will be different it might also be air in the system ( but doubt that ) -
first and cheapest way to go is buy a clay bar then use the other products recommended to finish like the 3 step wax all depends on how bad and i am not sure if the clear coat is eaten away or just oxidized?

Power Antenna, Volume Knob Problems
SKperformance replied to 92ES300's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
the mast can be replaced very easily go to lexus and get one for about 20 hold the fm button down and turn the key on at the same time and it will pop out get someone to stand back there at the same time or it might scratch the paint then turn the key off when out to replace just turn the key forward after feeding the teeth back in of the plastic coil in the mast look to see which way the coil came out to reinstall the knob you maybe able to find one on ebay for a new deck do you have a cd changer? also when you turn it half way does it get vey loud or it is just finally turning the volume up gradually from that point? ( i have an old one that i could probably sell you for parts) the leather can be reconditioned but the cracks will always be there i use coco butter works great when i leave it in the sun to soak in 3 times in one week twice a year the needles are just like that but if you turn the dimmer switch down past the fully on position it usually will stay on instead good luck and welcome to the club -
Getting Things Started
SKperformance replied to SKperformance's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
lol i was trying to add this as a reply to the new members welcome -
First tell us about yourself and car if you have any problems or future plans of modifications Did you call lexus yet to inform them you are the new owner ? ( if bought used) or not from a lexus dealer) This will get you informed of recalls( hardly ever are any ,but just incase) Did you know you can extend the lexus roadside asisstance? It is comparable in price to AAA or CAA depending on where you are includes free tow to closest dealer, unlimited mileage also has trip interuption cost replacment, with rental and hotel free key replacment if locked out as there is no real way to break in like most if locked out( they have stories of renting a small plane to fly a key to a member who lost his keys while fishing) all i have to say they are superb, but what do you expect for a lexus Free road maps and custom binded book of map and distances with turn by turn directions plus more enjoy and welcome to the club p.s. look i the meeting section for other owners near you , to meet

congrates on the new car and the great deal you seem to have found and you are dead on on the 92-94 years with projectors no idea why they changed them ( but i don't find them any good except for the look of them,no help in fog like most fogs are anyway) the fogs will bolt right in if you get the mounts with the older style i am not sure if they come with them new from the dealer the grille is also different but is under 100 for a new round fog one i took my projectors out and replaced them with a 95-96 style fogs and grille but mine amber since it is less reflective on droplets or moisture ( fog) i also made a custom bracket to hold it out of aluminum i still have my old ones they were used for 3 years and sat in a box since i had the car in 97 ( i have a 94) not sure if you are looking to buy that sytle or the oem ones the tails are custom people basically heat the whole light in the oven and pry it open remove the orange lens and put it back together make sure you remove the liscence plate lights on each as they will melt ( i speak from my own stupidity) good luck and have fun

Increased Mpg With Air Filter Change.
SKperformance replied to steviej's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
i agree with both sides it obviously does save gas with steviej's car ( but did not with the 3 i tried it with, also the cars were not new when the filters were installed one more variable) and it will let more air in but at an added expense not sure how much damage is done by dirt particles especially when on that tiny level i still say a good motor vac a year is one of the best gas savers and properly inflated tires plus a good cold air intake with lower restriction exhaust these are more performance minded ideas but the first thing i reseach about before i do a performance mod is will it save me gas or cost me more so far i have the cleanest running es 300 (emissions test) with the highest miles per tank of any es 300 from my lexus dealership, 94-96 1mz-fe i would be interested to see if the mileage on your car drops as the filter creates a bed of dirt but there are still too many variables to take into account to get a preoper reading -
hey i like your name skimone also a sticky just keeps a thread from being placed in date sorting of posts i meant either one of the 2 you guys wanted to do with placing a posting spot but i think us vetrans should just read the newbies list and save space by not posting it (haha like i did)

yah just what zeta says the new keys each have a predetermined frequency and a new chip comes with the new ones that has to be installed in the trunk that is why it is so expensive you could buy a regular plastic key head ( no alarm button )for about 20 then get a remote start alarm for 300 a pretty good choice

so i am guessing it worked? that's great not sure why manufactures puts a code on a stock deck does anyone steal them anymore? plus got to love this weather we are having in T.O.

Turn Signal Light Replacement
SKperformance replied to kevinwsmith's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
if it is anything like my 94 headlight the bulb is acessed from underneath the headlight assm or take the 3 bolts off the whole assm and pull it out that way one of the 97-01 owners might give you a better idea if it is that way ( it really is an odd way to put a bulb in)
