  1. your 97 is a non-interference so if the TB breaks you are just dead in the water. My friend just had his 98 Avalon TB and WP done at a good independent and it cost him under $500. If you have this done, the coolant flush can be done at the same time. They got to drain it anyway to do the WP. Brake fluid is the only other fluid you left out. Like SK said, stick with what you got now. red....stay red. you don't have the pink cause it just came out. steviej
  2. I will look when I get home from karate tonight. The 2002 manual should be the same procedure. steviej
  3. absolutely love the color. around these parts that color will sure to get you many looks and of course the infamous speeding ticket (it just looks fast). welcome to this side of the pond. steviej
  4. welcome, look all around and get familiar with the place. It's very friendly and informative. Take a few minutes and read the guidelines for the major sections. When in doubt, search or ask. oh yeah.......we like pictures so be sure to post up one of your ride. steviej

  6. I think it turned out to be his fluid level was low. Hopefully Army will chime in an give you the details. Nothing like an unresolved thread hanging in the breeze. He will fill you in. the picture in the avator is a Viper. steviej
  7. when i bought my ES it took close to 6 weeks from when I purchased to when I was recognized as the owner of the vehicle toting the VIN I was typing in. I am sure it has to do with purchasing, my DMV, the Lexus dealer finishing paperwork, and what ever red tape is needed. give it a few more weeks, then call again. steviej.
  8. special tool that puts pressure on the shaft and pulls the steering wheel off with even pressure around the shaft from behind. it works every time. steviej
  9. use a steering wheel puller. steviej
  10. there is a TSB on almost every Toyota/Lexus model about exhaust odor. It is also a factor of the amount of sulfur that is in the gas you buy. before condeming the car as malfunctioning, try several tanks of different brands of gas to see if the smell goes away. Also, if you used the SEARCH function, you would easily find all the posts about the foul exhaust smells and the solutions each member has found. All the threads that I can remember had similar resolves........different brands of gas. 5w-30 oil will be sufficient for winter use. I live just outside of Boston, MA and the last few winters have had some prolonged stretches of some severely cold weather (3 weeks straight of less than 10°F). I use synthetic oil specifically for that reason. Synthetic oil will flow much easier than conventional oil at those prolonged frigid temperatures. steviej
  11. excellent contribution to the site, thank you. I use the same Mequiars set up on my 02 ES. If you really want to be daring and make the headlights glisten like crystal, take them off, bake them a little to separate the plastic and clean the insides as well. This is an undertaking many have done and instuctions are in the pinned thread above about "clearing corners" Either way, you did a great job on the polishing. I will leave the thread here for a while as this is a common development with ES headlights. Eventually I will move it to the tutorial section as the pictures are very helpful. steviej
  12. 800cc Zuki Intruder. good size for me for my 1st. steviej
  13. dude, chill out. you posted this only few hours ago. Most of us are at work or trying to vote today. The ES is crap in snow without the TRAC and VSC. No better than any other 3400 lb. front wheel drive car. Kinda brings you back to the late 80's. Of course a dedicated set of snow tires will always improve situations. The best tool for snow driving in snow is always experience. steviej
  14. I got a LexusOwnersClub sticker on my motorcycle. It is a five speed and accelerates better than any 5 speed ES or 18 speed Schwinn I know. :P steviej
  15. post again when it reads 654321, now that will impress me. :D steviej
  16. Hold up. I am confused. you said/typed a little car lit up on the dash. The only dash lights that look like a car are: 1. the slip/skid indicator. It is a back end of a car with two squiggly tire marks. 2. the tail light "out" indicator. It is a top down view of a car with eyelashes on the back end. 3. the door open indicator, It is a top down view of a car with two doors open. now, did you mean to say little can, instead. the oil pressure lights are the two oil cans (genie lamps), one has a wavy line underneath and a drip of oil falling from the spout. which lamp was it? steviej
  17. how do you program the key for the "trunk button", "the double strike to kill the lights", and "the hold the button for a long time and all the windows and sunroof open". Oh yeah, when programming the lock function, does this automatically program the PANIC feature. This key is capable of all these functions. steviej
  18. I will lock it down. It will still come up in search requests. It may be helpful in the future. steviej
