2002 Es300 Halogens (not Xenon)
steviej replied to lexus_driver's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
The H7 bulb is the proper bulb for the 2002 ES low beams if the car IS NOT equipped with HID. An HID equipped ES will not have the proper wiring harness to accept H7 bulbs as the low beam with out a total wiring harness/fuse transplant. I do not know if non HID ES's have the autoleveling feature so that is one more piece of equipment to consider. The DRL are actually the high beam lights at 50% as SW03ES stated. The high beam bulbs are actually 9005 bulbs. The "-" setting on the stalk only illuminates the parking lights and not the DRL. (I just went outside in the dark to confirm this, thank you) Exactly as seen in lexusk8's posted picture. The parking bulbs are a small wedge style bulb not a socket style bulb. maybe I am getting old, but how could it be too bright. I would drive with my highs on all the time if it weren't rude and illegal. Lastly, go to www.lexus.com and register your car under the owners section. You can request a both the owners manual and supplemental owners manual, and they are FREE. steviej -
JET makes one but it has always been received on these sites with bad reviews. Put you money towards better things for your ES. steviej

call you local lexus dealer or contact online parts services. I suggest contacting www.irontoad.com or www.lexus-parts.com sometimes dealerships package all the parts needed into one bundle for one price. This includes all gaskets, belts, and whatnot. I have seen this done by many dealers for the big services (15k, 30k, 60k etc.). You might be able to find a "timing belt bundle" I have the 2002 ES Lexus shop manual, I could photocopy all the pages but it would be alot of photocopying. steviej

I was under the car today and can confirm that BOTH Bank 1 sensors are very easily reachable from underneath the car, just jack it up high AND as always, support it safely with 2 jack stands. steviej

sk I am thinking along the same lines as you. I think the ES is the 95. The Avalon engine is probably newer. I think the Avalon used/uses the 1MZ-FE too. My friend has a 98 Avalon and the engine looks very similar to that of the same year ES. my questionis where did the original ES engine go? 1. sludge or lack of proper maintenance? 2. blown due to higher active driver? 3. overheated and cracked the block? 4. how long ago was the powerplant transplant and has the proper maint. been performed since? I am trying to get a feel for the "type" of car owner the previous one was. This will give you some insight as to how well the car was maintained. steviej

this is a picture I posted in a thread about changing your tranny fluid. I remebered there were pictures and sure enough I caught Bank 1 Senor 2 in a picture. In this picture, the exhaust pipe makes a u turn. There is a spark plug looking sensor screwed into the "U" bend in the exhaust pipe. (in the picture right under the word PAN). That sensor is the Bank 1 Sensor 2 O2 sensor. steviej

oil capacity: 1. check the owners manual or call your local dearlership. They may have a shop manual. You might be able to get an owners manual after registering your ES250 on www.lexus.com. That manual may be out of print but then again, corporate many have some stashed away. You could also call a toyota dealership and see what the same year V6 Camry held. 2. Buy a Chilton or Haynes manual for the same year Camry. 3. Research it at you local library. Look for the Huge Chilton Import manual, it will be listed in there. I have the one that goes up to 1987 and all the Camrys in it were only 4 cyl. I lent the one covering your car to my brother so I can't look it up...sorry. 4. drain your oil and measure what comes out. That will be your minimum volume. Don't forget to measure what little volume in held in the filter. a. put on a new filter and add 3 quarts of the oil of your choice. b. Wait 5 minutes so that all the new oil flows down into the pan. c. Measure the oil via the dipstick. d. Add 1/2 qt and wait five minutes and remeasure using the dipstick. e. repeat this until the oil is at the "full" line. (I am guessing it will be 4 or 5 quarts.) f. drive the car around to bring it up to temp. This gets the new filter saturated and filled with oil. Return home, wait five minutes and check it again. Add what little volume is/if necessary to bring it up to the "FULL" mark. type of oil: 10W-30 should be sufficient for TX year round. synthetic or dino is your choice. search this as it has been widely discussed and beaten to death. Please don't revive the great oil debate, AGAIN. Last, get the valve cover leak fixed. :chairshot: steviej

search on "expansion valve" and open the search up to cover the last 365 days. steviej -
migirdech, you need to stay inside your own house. Everytime you go out, someone other than you gets in an accident. mental note to self, stay off of I94 when migirdech is not at home. :P steviej

kmb4701, upload your picture to the gallery. Then in your post click on the IMG button (in CODE BUTTON section when posting). When the IMG box appears, paste in the location of the picture you want to have appear in the post. To get that address, go to gallery, find you pick (it will be on the last page if you just uploaded it). Click on the picture so that it is one large picture and not a thumbnail. When only that picture is displayed, right click your mouse on the picture, click on Properties, then copy the entire "http://" address of the picture. good luck. steviej

Will Rx300 Leather/wood Shift Knob Fit On An Es300
steviej replied to ssultan's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
if you are talking about the shift knob for the 2002+ ES/RX with gated shifters then probably not. The 97-01 ES shift handle has a release button in the handle that is not in the 2002+ shift knob. steviej PS, a link to the ebay picture would be helpful so that we could see what the knob in question looks like. -
ashley, 1 of two things can be done. -Have the windshield replaced if you have glass on you insurance. If your deductable is $0, it won't cost you a thing. -Go ahead with the trade in, sometimes they don't even look at the car. When I trade in mine all the negotiations were done and signed and my car to trade in wasn't even inspected by them. I had to bring it there the next day with the title. They took the KBB trade in value off the web. I insisted they take an excellent rating = $3250, then wanted to give me a good rating (unseen) = $2750. We split the difference and they gave me $3000 for it. SNOWCRAZY Please refrain from typing in all CAPS, as it is viewed as rude on this and many other forums. steviej

noise ordinances are very subjective. The wording of the law can be somewhat tricky, too. here is a noise ordinance from Miami, dated 1997. here is a web link for a PDF file covering the FL vehicle noise level requirements, dated 1999. steviej

coming to an end, finally. getting to the airport is definately an improvement but coming south through the city on 93S still sukz. I am still very careful where I take my car due to the low profile tires and the potholes. It is rumored that Modern Continental (the main company doing the construction) has been recently booted out because of mismanagement of funds and too many errors. Recently the main tunnel sprung a huge leak and water was gushing in. :chairshot: steviej

Problem Shifting From Park - 97 Es300
steviej replied to gbdysart's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
yes there is a switch and it is at the top of the brake pedal. This would be my first thought, too. In the manual, there is a way to access the override switch that is in the shift console. Not that hard to replace if that is the culprit. When the car does go into gear, does it run ok? Also, since the car has sat for about 7 years then there is some serious preventative mantenances that should be done. Total fluid replacements would be a good start (oil and filter, tranny, coolant, ps, brake). Check the belts and CV boot covers as they are rubber and may have dried out due to lack of use and age. steviej -
Bank 2 Sensor 1 is in the manifold that is next to the oil filter up front. That one is reachable from standing in front of the car. steviej

there is a noise that the ABS modulator does make but it is brief and only happens at start up. I would not say it was a rumble. Mine is more like a soft buzz and comes more from the right front. The ABS modulator is right next to the front of the right wheel well. I hear it most upon first start up in the morning as opposed to the rest of the day. (maybe just a personal ear thing for me). Start the car with someone standing next to the engine bay with the hood up. Try turning the key to ON, but don't start the car, see if you can hear it. When in doubt with your dealership, always get a second opinion. The warranty (new or CPO) follows the car not the dealership. steviej

Sorry, I have given some misinformation in the picture posted and retracted it. The picture previously posted is of bank 1 sensor 2. That picture has been moved further up in this thread to answer the subsequent members question. The following is what I have obtained from my 2002 ES shop manual: Bank 1 is the right hand three cylinders (RH) that are against the firewall, that information was correct. O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 is the one in the RH header/exhaust manifold assembly. Bank 2 is the left hand three cylinders (LH) up front by the radiator. O2 sensor bank 2 sensor 1 is the one in the LH header/exhaust manifold assembly. again, I apologize for any confusion. steviej

take it to your dealer and have them read the code that is causing the CEL. There are tons of electronic sensors on your car and anyone could have triggered the CEL. Like Lexusfreak said, its under warranty so use the warranty. It costs you nothing, and they wash the car for you. steviej
