  1. Ideally, you would measure the presence or absence of 12 volts at the window when you activate the driver's switch. While you're at it you could verify that the wire connector(s) are securely plugged together.
  2. How many miles are on your odometer? You might want to check with a Toyota dealership.
  3. As long as there are no drivability issues, chances are that it is okay, but I wouldn't wait too long.
  4. You have the fault code "pulled" with a code reader. Once you know the code number, you can search for that number paired with your make and model of vehicle. The code description will tell you where the problem lies.
  5. Continental tires consistently rate at or near the top of Consumer Reports' ratings. The bonus is they are priced below many other high-performing brand tires. I've owned quite a few of various models of Continental tires and they have never disappointed me. All were/are very quiet with respectable handling characteristics. Our last two sets of tires on the RX are Yokohama Parada-X. These have been great tires, as well.
  6. Given the limited choices, I'd get KYBs. I had them as part of a spring upgrade for my previous Mazda and the KYB struts held up well for many years.
  7. At 110,000 miles, I'd be tempted, all right.
  8. I typically change my intake and cabin filters every 10,000 - 12,000 miles.
  9. I tried twice to open your photo link - no luck.
  10. Hello, Paul, I always knew when my Corvette's battery was weak if l inadvertently left my radar detector on after shutting down the engine. The next morning, the car wouldn't start. Now, in this case, there could be a bad power socket that shorts, any time something is plugged into it. The clue would be a blown fuse, as you mentioned.
  11. ....at the battery post and at a frame connection. You may have to try to follow the cable from the battery to see exactly where it is grounded.
  12. First of all, how old is the battery? If you are not sure, have it charged and load-tested. If it is weak, that may explain your problem. Likewise, if the alternator is bad, that may also cause a no-start situation.
  13. Consumer Reports magazine has often included warnings about extended warranties for a variety of products. In almost all cases, the warranty cost does not pay for itself.
  14. Consumer Reports just published smart phone ratings, with Samsung dominating the top three slots. Many phones excelled at ease of use, messaging, web browsing, annd display quality, including phones of all operating systems (android, ios, and Windows 8.1. All now have excellent voice communication (google voice,Catana, and Siri, so do yourself s favor and see if you can try out all three operating systems and their compatibility with your vehicle.
  15. My wife's HTC 8X syncs, just fine, but that is not a new model. My phone, a Nokia 925 is also not new, but is newer than the 8X. Hopefully, folks with newer phones will chime in.
  16. I turned the ignition on and off (without starting the vehicle) a few times while pressing the eject button. That was 6 months ago and we haven't had a problem, since.
  17. It should be due for transmission system service for transmission fluid and differential (gear oil) fluid changes. I would also recommend brake fluid service if it hadn't been done, recently.
  18. The problem is with that Lexus dealership. I suggest you take your vehicle to a different one.
  19. Did you hear the sound on your way home from having your vehicle serviced? I would have taken my vehicle back at my earliest convenience to let them troubleshoot the issue. Of course, it could be a coincidence, but let them spend some time, troubleshooting, just to be sure.
  20. Also check the wiring connection to the switch. It may be loose, resulting in an intermittent connection. Door switches typically last more than 20 years.
  21. I agree -do not trust the eBay stuff. These high-tech keys are expensive with every brand of vehicle. Treat them as if they are expensive (which they are).
  22. Anything that is painted can and should be waxed. The 3D waterless is sprayed on, saving lots of time, washing (not needed).
  23. Some IS owner from the UK Lexus Owner's Club ( a while back) stated that he found a loose front airbag connector. Once he tightened it, the light went off and he hadn't had the problem for 6 months (at the time of his post). Apparently, some dealerships replace the airbag wiring harness at a cost of $2000-$3000. This has occurred in many Toyota/Lexus models but it doesn't look like it is super-widespread, at least based upon my consistent perusals of this forum.
  24. Have you checked the fluid level. What you describe could mean that it is low. And as Thomas mentioned, if you are not certain as to when it had been drained and filled, get it done, ASAP.
  25. Whenever you are buying a battery, make sure you understand the date code on it. That code should show that the battery is fairly fresh - no more than a month or two old, if possible. Costco and Walmart sell lots of batteries, so very recently made ones are likely to be available. In any case, if a dealership insists that as battery isn't good, ask to witness a load test on it. If you or they suspect that a drain caused by the vehicle is causing the battery life to be shortened, have them run a quick current draw test. You must know which area is at fault - the battery or your vehicle. Our factory battery lasted about 5 years and our current Costco battery is now 4 years old and doing well.
