The hybrid RX is actually an RX450h. It averages 29 MPG which is very good for an SUV of this size. Regarding the NAV: I like the 3 routes because each has a label of short or quick. In some cases the longer route is quickest. My Mazda gives me one choice but if I take a different route, it recalculates (as do all NAVs) to guide me via my chosen path. Plug-in hybrids like the Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime can consume electricity when they are plugged in but unlike a purely electric car, cannot strand the driver once their battery packs are depleted. Les Lex, I'm with you on use of electronics. Why paddle shifters are included in an SUV is beyond me. I used them in the LC500 I rented a few days ago and they were fun but not so much so that they'd be used every day.

One of my uncles drove a tank in WWII. I still remember his telling me that the tank turned by stopping or slowing down one of the two tracks. My 2001 Corvette's active handling would apply hydraulic pressure to any wheel's calipers to ensure that the car's direction of forward travel was always where the steering wheel was pointed. It saved me a couple of times. Technology sure does progress over time.

They are not plug-in vehicles, so it could be that some buyers may not know that. No external electricity source is required. I am in California and we were given a tax break of $7500 (I believe) when we purchased our RX400h. That compensated for some of the extra cost for the hybrid. Payback for a hybrid like this occurs more quickly as the percentage of city driving increases. When I was in New York City, 10 years ago I noticed that many of the taxis were Toyota Camry hybrids. They are excellent choices for taxi companies.

I would've opted for the hybrid model after having one for over 16 years and saving thousands of dollars in gas but I can understand those who rarely drive, not needing to spend the additional money for one. When I bought my 2015 Mazda 3 GT (loaded with electronics - tech package), the salesman spent a good 15 minutes or more explaining many of the most-used features. This was helpful but of course, I eventually forgot some of what he explained, mostly from lack of need. You tend to remember what you use often but what you can do is use colored tabs (each with a title) to identify the pages that include instructions about features you use, even occasionally. Then every so often, I'll borrow the book and peruse its contents. Looking at the maintenance book is also very helpful.

Did he rent a McLaren 570? 😉 This 2018 LC is currently going for $75,000 or so, depending upon the mileage. However, at some point they will go for $50,000. Now if only the McLaren came down to that price! Once you have a Lexus for many years, you are spoiled when it comes to NOT having to fix or get things fixed every year or two. This is how it is with Mazda Miatas and I may always have one in manual transmission form. They are like little toys that so much fun to drive. The LC is a fantastic GT car, though. I would even consider the LC500h for its great fuel mileage and only a small amount of acceleration drop.

This one was originally a dark silver color. The owner had it partially wrapped in a scheme that did draw lots of attention. My impressions: 1. The seats were very comfortable - not in the same way that our RX's seats are but we could easily drive cross country on either vehicle's seats. 2. The infotainment system's touch pad is not my cup of tea. I tried something similar in an Audi A4, a while back and I really didn't like that one, either. Fortunately, it didn't take long to figure out the NAV setup. 3. The radar cruise control is different from what I am used to in my 2014 Mazda 3 in that the LC's default is normal cruise control. I'm puzzled as to why that is an option. Apparently there are extra steps involved to turn on the radar part of cruise control and they are not intuitively recognized. 4. The interior sound when you floor the gas pedal is both loud and intoxicating. If I didn't have my wife in the car I would've heard this sound much more often. 😉 5. Handling was a good as can be expected from a heavy car. I understand that the 2021 LCs are a bit softer in the ride harshness department. Yes, the 21-inch wheels and tires certainly contributed to the stiff ride but I like it that way. All-in all, I had a great time in wine country, Temecula, visiting friends, relatives, and former coworkers on a Monday and Tuesday. The weather was picture perfect. There should be a fuel grade recommendation in your owner's manual. Consumer Reports advises that premium should really be used in your car only if your owner’s manual mandates it.

I didn't verify this, as I don't have an IS but did the tire employee try this: IS F / IS250 / IS350 (2006-2013) Time needed: 7 minutes. In this generation, your vehicle equipped with a satellite switch to change the settings of various features. Follow these steps to reset the TPMS: Stop the vehicle and turn off the engine Tire pressure reset process cannot be done while the vehicle is moving. Adjust the cold tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard The tire placard located on the door panel Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine If your vehicle has an ignition button, press the POWER button twice without touching the brake pedal Go to the TIRE PRESSURE INITIALIZATION menu by using the ◄ ► button The button is located on the instrument panel Press the ON/OFF button until the tire pressure indicator Blinks slowly three times. This will record the tire inflation pressure Wait for several minutes with the engine switch in the “ON” position, to allow the system to record each tire’s pressure, then turn the engine off. Done!

The original post creator mentioned that he removed the inside panel. Once you do this, the manual method of unlatching the door should be fairly obvious. I've found that the expense most likely to bite an owner of an old but otherwise reliable vehicle is replacement of leaking gaskets. Valve cover gaskets are typically no big deal but others (labor, specifically) can be quite expensive - sometimes more than $1500. So before you buy, have all gaskets checked and if possible, look at all maintenance records. Just because all fluids were recently replaced doesn't necessarily mean that they were historically replaced according to the owner's manual schedule. There are some 20 year old vehicles on the road their numbers are diminishing rapidly.

Consumer Reports does rate your vehicle's front seats as much better than average. Sometimes those with very little body fat are less comfortable sitting on seats that are extremely comfortable for the average-sized person. Here's a photo of the ratings that include your RX.

...from another forum: Hello folks, I am a fifty year auto mechanic. I had a customer bring me her IS 250 with this complaint. The problem is that the brake booster doesn't hold vacuum for three or 4 applications of the brakes after the engine is turned off. This particular car only gives 1 to 1 1/2 applications. So if you depress the brake pedal just once after the engine is turned off the booster loses all of its vacuum and the brake pedal is hard to push. The check valve is working and the vacuum is normal. Every other car I've driven, and that's a lot, gives you 3 to 4 applications before depleting the booster. so, be aware of not pressing the brake after turning off the car and you should be fine. That or Lexus needs to own up to a design flaw with the brake booster.

The most likely scenario that would result in the fans kicking in at high speed is during lengthy stop & go driving in high traffic conditions during high ambient temperatures. Have you done this? After driving in these conditions and after arriving home, let your vehicle idle for 5 minutes or so. I would think that the trigger temp would be exceeded and the high speed fans would be energized.

I did (once or twice) ride my motorcycle during the Winter in Connecticut. Fear is when you're rounding a corner at high speed and see ice patches on the road. Then there was the time while riding back home from the beach during a hot summer day when I rode directly into a hail storm at 70 MPH. I was 25 years old with no helmet, no shirt, and shorts. No, I no longer have a motorcycle. 😄

Since you are not the original owner, is there any way you can contact the original owner or most previous owner? Perhaps he or she has insight as to what may be the cause. I find it hard to believe that the dealership has no clue. If all else fails, it may be worth having your car towed to a different dealership after you call Lexus corporate to voice your grievances.

Daryl, you live in New York but do not drive in cold weather? Do you store your car for the entire Winter? I advise that even if you drive it only during warmer months that you use oil of viscosity listed in your owner's manual. Does it list 15W-40 as an optional oil viscosity? I would be surprised if it does.

Welcome! I've bought factory repair manuals on Amazon and Ebay. Sometimes I would find one that was not for the exact year of my car, but it was within that generation. I really like the GS450h. It is sad that they had to be discontinued. The 2013+ versions have very impressive specifications.
