Can't Change to Disc or Tape Mode anymore
RX400h replied to RX Man 7's topic in 04 - 09 Lexus RX330 / RX350 / RX400h
I would disconnect the negative, then positive terminals for a minute or two. Make sure the positive cable does not touch any grounded component. While disconnected, clean the posts and cable connectors with a wire brush tool you can get at any auto parts store or maybe Walmart. There is also an anti-corrosion spray that can be applied after reconnecting the cable clamps. How old is your battery? Sometimes a weak battery will cause weird issues to surface. The battery should have a date sticker on it. If the battery is more than 3 years old, you can have it load-tested at most auto parts stores. They will fully charge it before the test. -
Can I polish this out of my roof??
RX400h replied to Pnuma's topic in 04 - 09 Lexus RX330 / RX350 / RX400h
If you take your time and research correct techniques for doing this, it may work, but keep in mind that unless the paint shop applies a clear coat over the paint, it won't be long before the paint oxidizes again. -

Maybe you should disconnect the battery and reconnect it. You would have to reset the windows but that doesn't take long. -
Can I polish this out of my roof??
RX400h replied to Pnuma's topic in 04 - 09 Lexus RX330 / RX350 / RX400h
That is oxidation and destruction of the paint's clear coat from the sun's UV rays. There really is no quick and inexpensive way to fix that. -
Exactly; always use your maintenance schedule as a guide. In addition, whenever I am draining the engine oil, I take the time to clean the engine bay and seals: 1. Use a spray bottle with water to spritz engine components and then wipe with a paper towel. 2. Use a rubber hose and seal protectant like Armor All on easily reachable hoses and hood seals. 3. Apply the same protectant on door and hatch seals. 4. Top off windshield wiper fluid and radiator coolant tanks if necessary. 5. Remove the battery caps and add distilled water if necessary. 6. Look around the engine bay for any leaks, split or cracked hoses/tubing.

Daytime Running Lights 06 RX330
RX400h replied to ShannonG702's topic in 04 - 09 Lexus RX330 / RX350 / RX400h
Our 06 RX400h has them on all the time. Did yours come from the factory with them off by default? -
Most polishing kits include a liquid/gel that can be the equivalent of 10,000 grit. This is what really recreates a glossy polish. Novus makes some excellent polishing liquid if you would prefer to buy wet-sanding paper separately instead of a complete kit. See: NOVUS Plastic Polish (novuspolish.com)

Buying 2008 Lexus Rx 350
RX400h replied to Roland Mirabal's topic in 04 - 09 Lexus RX330 / RX350 / RX400h
I would run a search in autotrader.com, craigslist.com, and some other websites such as these. Pricing of used vehicles has been very high, lately but at least you can get an idea as to what other sellers are asking. Also: 1. Conduct a phone interview with the owner. 2. Ask for maintenance records and if there are any non-functioning features. 3. Find out how many owners there were and where the vehicle was serviced. 4. If you are happy with the answers given to you, you may want to have the vehicle inspected. The money spent may save you from headaches in the future. Good luck. -
Need engine for beloved 1996 Sc300

Blondance, I typed in "auto junk yards in California" and "auto salvage yards in California" and saw quite a few listed. -
You're very welcome.👍

Stop the vehicle and turn off the engine Tire pressure reset process cannot be done while the vehicle is moving. Adjust the cold tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard The tire placard located on the door panel Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine If your vehicle has an ignition button, press the POWER button twice without touching the brake pedal Look for the TPMS reset button and press the button until the tire pressure indicator Blinks slowly three times. (It may be under the dash near the gas or brake pedal.) Wait for several minutes with the engine switch in the “ON” position, to allow the system to record each tire’s pressure, then turn the engine off. Done!

Have you checked the junkyards here in CA? -
Good to see. I hope they forewarned you about the smell and perhaps gave you a suggestion for eliminating the smell. Thankfully you don't smoke cigarettes. 😏

We've had good luck with Continental Pure Contact tires. Consumer Reports rates those in #2 spot. #1 is held by Michelin's CrossClimate tires. My guess is that the Continentals are less expensive.

2020 ES300h Auxiliary Battery Outage
RX400h replied to nyuhsuk's topic in 2019 - Present ES250 / ES300h / ES350 / ES350h
Some vehicles' 12V ports are live even after the the vehicle is shut off. Is there an "ON" light on your phone display that you can check when it is plugged in after the car is off? Auto Electric shops can track down electrical current draws if the dealership cannot, but I think it is highly unlikely that a failed component is causing the drain. How many days apart do you drive the ES? Simply waiting too long between sufficiently long trips can result in a dead battery. We drive our RX400h at least once per week and for a minimum of 12 miles, one way. Our battery always starts the car without issue. -
Should I use dino oil, synthetic blend, or full synthetic?
RX400h replied to reddirtcowboy's topic in Lexus LC500 Coupe Club
Actually, I loved the LC500 seats. It was the McLaren 570S Spider seats that injected lower back pain after a 20+ minute drive on the highway. Other comfortable seats were in the 2017 Jaguar F-Sport and the 2014 Corvette Coupe. The BMW i8's seats were not bad at all. However, that car would not be suitable or someone who is out of shape, since you must drop into the seat and climb out when you exit. It was no problem for me, fortunately. Mobil 1 link: Interesting. I was not aware of LSPI (Low Speed Pre Ignition) with turbocharged engines. My guess is that you'll be fine with this although you are certainly doing the right thing by investigating further. -
Did they check the wheel balance for each wheel? This is what I would suspect - out of balance wheel. If they did not, you can always take it to a trusted alignment shop. Many are expert at troubleshooting wheel and suspension-related issues. The local tire shop (Discount Tire) can typically check wheel balance and fix it for free, especially if you've bought tires from them.

Check out: Car Stereo: Stereos, Radios & Receivers (crutchfield.com) and click on the car audio and video heading. They typically have excellent install procedures and customer service/technical assistance. I've always had good luck with them.

Using the wheels from later model Lexus RX
RX400h replied to LEX200108's topic in 99 - 03 Lexus RX300
The tirerack picks for OEM size wheels should have the same offsets as OEM. If any doubt, give them a call. Their customer service is always top-notch. They will also offer wider choices. You can sort by weight, cost, etc and even see what the wheels look like on your vehicle's image. -

Everett, I am curious as to what your owner's manual includes about the oil specification. With that in your hand, you may want to call Mobil about whether their Mobil 1 meets all specifications required by Lexus. $109 is not bad for a change requiring that many quarts. When I had my 2001 Corvette that I had lowered by turning some factory screws (That was easy!), I made some 6x6 planks in the shape of front and rear ramps. I was then able to get the car up high enough to role the hydraulic floor jack underneath the front, first (under which I placed Rhino ramps) and then the rear where I placed jack stands. I had to have the car level because of where the drain plug was positioned. For my current cars (both lowered) I use either Rhino ramps (Miata) or steel ramps with extensions (Mazda3). I'm glad to see that you're enjoying your LC. It is amazing. Have you seen my review of the rented LC500 I had for 24 hours? Needless to say, I had a great time with it. RX350 - is it crazy to buy used 100+ Lexus?
RX400h replied to PALexusguy585's topic in 10 - 15 Lexus RX350 / RX450h
You may not want to rule out the RX450h, as it averages an excellent 29 MPG. And with gas prices super high and climbing, you can more than make up for it by getting an SUV that is superior to any other as far as efficiency and luxury. -
Should I use dino oil, synthetic blend, or full synthetic?
RX400h replied to reddirtcowboy's topic in Lexus LC500 Coupe Club
The advantage of synthetic oil is that it takes longer for it to get to a point when it needs to be changed (assuming the oil filter can filter effectively for that period of time. However, the algorithm setting that determines oil change intervals based upon your driving habits may very well be "assuming" that you are using OEM oil. Are you using this algorithm to alert you? Short trips may be insufficient to allow for removal of moisture in the oil, and the result may very well be shorter maintenance intervals. If you are using a mileage-only based schedule then I believe it would probably be beneficial to drive at least 30 miles (depending upon ambient temperature) one or more times per week. V8 engine oil temperature tends to take longer to get up to operating temperature compared to that of smaller engines. I am a fan of synthetic oil and use it in all our vehicles. Way back in the late 90s or earlier, GM used Mobil 1 synthetic oil as factory fill in all their Corvettes. -
Fuel Injection Cleaning Necessary?
RX400h replied to EDV's topic in 04 - 09 Lexus RX330 / RX350 / RX400h
Your manual should include in it or in a separate manual, a maintenance schedule. If its not listed under 60K miles then you do not need to have it done under normal circumstances. -
