  1. I would pick the GS, as it does handle better (based upon various reviews by magazines) and although it is not quite as quiet and smooth-riding, the sportiness of the GS would make up for those LS attributes.
  2. Our RX400h acts similarly to pure-ICE vehicles, so there is no need to become accustomed to switching vehicles on a consistent basis. I have read that some owner of EVs become so accustomed to regeneration that results in their not needing to apply their brakes, that when they drive a non-EV, they sometimes get nervous about not having the same regenerative effect.
  3. It sounds like you’re dealing with a tricky situation. The codes ECU1 ($FD00) and ECU2 ($FD20) typically indicate issues related to the engine control unit (ECU). Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem: Check the Battery and Connections: Ensure the battery is fully charged and the connections are clean and secure. Sometimes, a weak battery or corroded terminals can cause the engine to start but not stay running. Inspect the Fuel System: A common issue could be related to the fuel system. Check if the fuel pump is working correctly and if there’s adequate fuel pressure. You might need to listen for the fuel pump’s sound when you turn the key to the “on” position. Examine the ECU and Wiring: Since the codes point to the ECU, inspect the wiring and connectors related to the ECU. Look for any signs of damage or corrosion. Check for Vacuum Leaks: Sometimes, vacuum leaks can cause the engine to start and then stall. Inspect the vacuum hoses for any cracks or disconnections. Consult a Professional: If you’re unable to resolve the issue, it might be best to consult a professional mechanic, especially since you’re away from home. They can perform a more thorough diagnostic and pinpoint the exact cause. Since you’re in DC, you might want to look for a nearby Lexus dealership or a reputable auto repair shop that can assist you.
  4. That's great. I have to ask why you purchased a vehicle that was obviously not well-taken care of. Did you get it at an auction?
  5. I guess I never need to worry about that because I always changed my own transmission fluid. Late model vehicles are often "filled for life", on my 2024 Supra, that I'm not worried about it. I do change my manual transmission fluid in my Miata, although it has less than 70,000 miles on it at this time.
  6. My two cars each has a Scanguage OGD II reader and display. These are units that are well known and used. Neither has ever had a problem. Our RX400h does not have its own, but perhaps it's because we've never had a problem. But I think you nailed the real reason for your issues - a cheap OBD II unit.
  7. Welcome, Tammy! You may be able to ask a Toyota parts department person to cross-check. I'd guess that most independent mechanics can troubleshoot the issue. You shouldn't buy parts before they do. Alternately, a Toyota dealership should be able to do the same, likely at higher cost, but lower than a fix by a Lexus dealership.
  8. I believe Ed mentioned that he would have the transmission fluid "changed", which normally indicates a drain and fill. Also, I would never put back old fluid.
  9. I'm a bit confused. You drained 4 quarts, added 4 quarts, then drained 2.5 quarts. Is that right? Wouldn't that mean you were left with only 1.5 quarts?
  10. Perfect!👍
  11. It is, but most likely they have expensive equipment that allows them to do this. When I get a vehicle smog-checked, I get charged $70 for 5 minutes of work. I had an auto locksmith sell me a new key fob and programing of my 2008 Mazda MX5 for $500. That's crazy money!
  12. How do I find the build information for my vehicle? (lexus.com)
  13. My guess is that it should. The ES has one of the lightest-feeling steering I've ever experienced. I've been loaned an ES350 by the dealership, a couple of times. Its steering was certainly lighter than our RX's.
  14. I'm assuming there is nothing mentioned in the owner's manual?
  15. I'd be frustrated, too if I were in your shoes. Did you check to see what the dealership would charge you to do this?
