  1. DDOC: can u recommend some fine little detail brushes for cleaning out wax etc from molding? assume autopia or one of the usual as the place to get or other?
  2. AZ.. i too bought small bottle not believing in the power. (man that stuff..uggp, goes a long way) Been using it for 3 months. Now not answering in place of DDOC but, when putting it on I usually put to much on, which results in left over streaks where u put too much on.. I wait 12 hours and use MF towel to buff off-very easy. when putting on u should see some wetness to what u r applying. How did ur car come out? cheers quote name='AZ08LexusES' date='Jul 9 2008, 02:19 PM' post='318463'] DDOC, I have an easy question... I bought the 4 Oz. bottle of the UPGP as opposed to the 12 Oz. to give it a try. The directions say to apply two pumps to prime the applicator and then one pump to apply. Then when no product gets applied to the surface any longer, use another pump. Well, the sprayer on the 4 Oz. bottle is so small compared to the 12 Oz. one, I think I may have under applied. With all the talk about not wanting to over do it, I may have not done much at all... I applied three times after letting cure for 12+ hours each time, but was it enough? How can I test to see if it was enough? Any different recommendations?
  3. thanks MH.... I did read your post and I will pepper you with ?'s as they come up.? 1) Do you have the 3m invisible or scotch guard? 2) What about cleaning the car on the areas the bra covers? ..Sure car wash is fine what about wax, or paint sealant shine etc? thanks Thanks MH- Yes I
  4. Hello all: Found this http://www.lightsout.org/story.html from the anti-DRL group. Interesting other side of the fence. what do all think? SW what study data have you seen supporting drl's in the US ? Take a look at this site and links. Summary: Purporting that DRL's data used is accurate in Scandinavian countries due to lower lighting conditions, but not applicable for US. NHSTA did not support DRL's but than changed their mind after petition from General Motors over 5 years 87-92. So declined for 5 years than changed position to allow. NHSTA overides state law, so now DRL legal in all states So conspiracy theorists jump in here---$$$$ motivation. Interesting background and info. thoughts people? quote name='SW03ES' date='Jun 11 2008, 11:44 AM' post='313504'] Oh I know, I've seen the study data on the subject there is no question that they work.
  5. a guy here.... interesting point you brought up from the manual. Cannot keep 'em less than 2 ft yah right..how would we carry both keys and phone ? keep arms extended out at 180 degrees. at all times or u can blowup...In the car, where would you put your cell phone versus keys? sounds to me like MFG covering their butts, in case a battery depletes than anytime it depletes they can charge for new and say did you keep your cell at anytime within 2 ft of your keys? Well so far no issues here (owner since April) , and car key fobs i speak my keys are in bottom left pocket , above them (cargo shorts) is my car key fob I am no expert on the key fob but assume it uses RF signals to transmit, Cell phones have telecoils in them (to work with hearing aids), - it is feasible (I am not sure how close it draining battery needs to be or an expert on this subject buttt) theoretically 2 ft might be the max distance to pull the rf signal out of the key fob, thus taxing the fob and draining the battery faster regardless, I rather replace battery than figuring out how to separate the 2 all the time. cheers!
  6. This topic came up in the 140 miles thread , but I thought it was important to have a thread dedicated to it with the right title. So who has Bra's on their 350's who does not? Do you recommend? Clear bras like invisishield or leather? I am thinking about getting one on my list of to do's. thoughts all?
  7. Looks gr8. Enjoy
  8. I got em all see my gallery (Black on Black 08 es UL) Sw informed me earlier in thread that only side moldings (dunno if that includes my wheel wells) and not the front/back bumper were OEM. I like the look adds some more curves and angles to the body imho. good luck and post before and after pix!
  9. Hi Guy's. Not interested in doing this myself but freedom of information to all. another Lex owners forum (do not think I am breaking rules here) Add in a nav hack switch to set unit to hack flick back it is in normal mode. _PS I have no experience with this......... read the entire post some people had issues so I would be very careful playing with any wiring or setups defaults in the car. Will 'void the warranty and all http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234401
  10. I have a cargo net in my trunk--holds my car guides, digital tire pressure gauge, car duster, mf towel, and still lot space for bags i do not want milling around when i shop Takes up no space and expands when u need it too. I recommend it I have been looking at lighting options, only one I have seen online is under car stuff, no interest there. Have not seen add on blinkers for side mirrors. PS - My 08 has back lights passengers sides..same types as in the front 3 dots. not lot lighting but good 'enuf for me. Do 07's not have these?
  11. Good post all. After reading these posts I have been using 89 Octane versus 91 and see the same MPG and same performance No speed, acceleration other performance drops IMHO, but in my driving a slight drop maybe it is not noticable. . Now as I am not racing or taxing this per se there could be a minimal drop. Fine accelerating to 60-80 on Parkways. I will say that theclosest Gas station to our house ( HESS) station gas seems to be crap because both my wifes truck, my car (my previous car) would get less MPG (2-4 MPG) when filling up there. cheerio
  12. Ok my really last note in this thread (I hope) , Like to read all the posts SW posted too and agree this as a gr8 forum that Steve runs . I was not arguing vehemently, just ( saying the flex is faster OPM ) and suggesting person to read the post where detail doc (U 2 SW and others) placed pages of posts on detailing where experienced guys and newbies put up a good thread. As I too am in the market for a gr8 Orbiter I spent lot time discussing with DDOC others and looking up on the internet. PC, UDM a lot of others were discussed in that thread. People reading it can learn a lot, (Like I did) and use that to help them in making decisions. that is a gr8 thread that this board provided, thanks all for it. (JGT started with an innocent ?--man 19 pages or so now!) PS DDOC agreed FLEX is gr8 orbiter as well, so I just conveyed that info. Lot good product exists out there, each with their benefits. So SW, I may 'argue' that I have better experience and skills in research than you. I am educated through MBA, successful careers at top corporations, work extensively with IBM research , etc etc etc. (NOTE: You may be on consumer reports testing team for 20 years for all I know, I am just making a point here not actually stating this as fact) Does that Mean I should tell everyone they can't disagree/argue a point with me because I have more experience in researching products, etc ? I think not. so we will agree to disagree on Opinions, in relation to experience. cherrio all! My intention was never to run RJT off, I like RJT. However I don't think I'm being unduly boastful by suggesting that I've been pretty good for this forum as well. This detailing forum wouldn't be here nor would this data be here if it weren't for me. He's been here 3 months...I've been here 5 1/2 years, written technical articles, created a partnership with Autopia. I've been detailing cars for over a decade and he's just learning. This had nothing to do with me being the "forum police". Nobody broke any rules, nobody got moderated. It has to do with this forum being the main focus of my energy here and detailing being one of my passions. Lets just let it drop...
  13. This sounds weird. I get just beautiful shine. Nothing at all that bothers me, no glare. How tall are you? I am 6 1" just wondering if height makes a difference.
  14. OK my last post in this thread in response. (Work Work work kept me off my sites this week arrgh! ) Agreed I am not looking to fight, so lets keep this on the up and up and please stop calling me/my responses worthless and such. That is demeaning. My fact statements were published facts about the flex and independent verified and published by MFG's on OPM's, thus should be quicker to remove scratches, all else being equal. etc. That was my fact statements. Re-read the other thread which clearly statesto) (and I tell people to refer to it) my discussions and research with detail doc and others on best products and orbiters. I think you unfairly are misrepresenting me as someone trying to fool people to think I am an expert. In my posts I point this thread to the other thread where I am clearly representing i was investigating what products to use. I Used the words It seems, etc... I plan on getting the flex and using it and will post the results in this forum. I DO NOT DISAGREE THAT EXPERIENCED PEOPLE ARE THE BEST TO OFFER ADVICE. But suggest you open yourself up to accept other forms of gaining knowledge do exist and experienced people are not always the right or the only forms of best information. Without going into long discussion on research methodology practitioner experience is weighted heavily but limiting thought challenges to practitioners is severely limiting. So lets respect each others opinions though we do not agree! I will try to do better job in posting should I want to comment to people on subjects that I have not been experienced with. cheers I don't think its unreasonable to ask that you only offer advice or make suggestions based on your own experience. If you post information and the goal of that information os truly to offer guidance. You've got to admit, actually participating in the process you are advising people on at least once within the last 20 years would be a good idea. At least it would be a good idea before arguing with people who have been partipating in that process on a professional level for years. I can have an opinion as to how steel should be welded...but it wouldn't be helpful to anyone if I expressed it because I've never done it. I'll leave it to the welders to help folks who have questions because I just might be wrong. I just re read your original response to the OP to make sure I wasn't off base, and I'm not. You made matter-of-fact statements, made a value judgement on one tool over the other, and never admitted that you have never even used either tool to say the least that you had never even used a similar tool. Thats not fair to the people who are looking for guidance from people who know what they're talking about. I posted a peice of information, information that is fact based on my many years of experience on the subject and you said I was wrong, when you've never even done what we're talking about once. That takes some major cojones. We want new ideas from people who know what they're talking about... You're posting in a way that makes you sound like you know what you're talking about, but you don't. Plenty of people here that do, let them do the helping please until such time that you have some personal experience to offer.
  15. I warned my Wife (has not driven it yet since an initial drive--but she is a big truck gal anyway) to take off her rings should she drive. I don't like rings (don't even wear my wedding band), so should be good there. For my interior I have been using the Sonus cockpit bundle weekly/bi-weekly and good MF towel to get off any smudges streaks on wood and good anti-static dust cleaner for my black interior. Use ultima interior guard (every few months). Sonus works great, for day to day smudges i use my eyeglass cloth to wipe little fingerprints away off wood and my nav screen (I keep one in car for my sunglass smudges) found a use to store it in the ashtray! From my notes on products: Sonus Cockpit Cleaner Bundle - 18$ Autopia- bumpers all other Interior dashboard and vinyl  Use Sonus Cockpit Detailer for weekly dusting when you wash. – vinyl leather  Use Sonus Total Eclipse monthly for complete protection. Uv protection Ultima Interior Guard Plus – 12 oz. 50$ autopia -4 oz 25$  Seals and protects leather, vinyl, plastic, fabric and wood trim, leaving a silky smooth finish. good luck!
  16. I never claimed I was an practical expert nor misrepresented myself as such, yet you act like I did. You seem to think since I have not recently polished my car with orbiter/Rotary I cannot post anything on detailing. But as you state in your welcome note we are free to challenge thus I am and will. I did not take an absolute stand on the flex and am not going to bother to restate all my posts on how i appropriately represented my thoughts in this thread. Notice the word SEEMS like starting my flex posts... I mistakenly said RPM vesus OPM's so shoot me A good quote "Nothing is more dangerous than an opinion if that is the only one you got." Emile Chartier. I suggest you start an experts of detailing board where only practical experts (of course define practical experts 2 cars done 10, 50, 100 ? years doing it?) can post in it? I l just looked at the rules for this board and am not violating anything. Your insistence that only those who have done it recently can have an opinion is your way of thinking, not everyone else's. But as you are the moderator you can run it anyway you want I guess. If you are complete owner of this site-forum why don't you state how you now prefer to run it accurately in the "Welcome note in this detailing forum?' You state 'open to new ideas' , but now you only want new ideas from people you consider post worthy? First from overall welcome: From the pinned tab "what is the Lexus owners club" "We strive to provide a relaxed and friendly home on the Internet for Lexus Owners to come together and discuss their cars, share problems or solutions, or to ask for help if they need it." Relaxed and friendly ..hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm You may want to reread this pinned note instead of calling other peoples thoughts worthless. FROM YOUR NOTE getting to know the detailing forum: I have a lot of background in detailing, I've been doing it as a hobby for the past 10 years or so. I'm not a professional but I do a few cars here and there for profit just for fun. Detailing is a great hobby, and a great way to either make a few extra bucks or even a living. I know my stuff but I'm by no means an expert, so please feel free to bring up new topics or to disagree/challenge anything I or anyone else may lay on the table in here for discussion. This forum is for discussing the matter of Automotive Detailing. Detailing is a highly specialized field. It is not a difficult activity but there is a learning curve involved. A line I like to use is "Detailing is 10% products and 90% process". I can't take ownership of those words but they are very true. When you start out detailing you're looking for the ultimate product but you'll quickly learn that it doesn't exist. There are many excellent products out there, but your prepwork beforehand will make the result either good or great. Beware the lure of the "ultimate product" and never take anyone's experience as fact. The best part about detailing is discovering new products and new techniques. So I would ask that everyone be open to new ideas, avoid pushing products and allow people to make up their own minds, be supportive of each other and everything will be fine.
  17. nice job Now you will get the requests to do your friends! ...gr8 pix
  18. A few things: 1- that's your opinion and you are entitled to it as I am entitled to mine. Opinions are opinions, and people need to judge where they are coming from. Sure I would expect Practical recent experienced people should have the best info, but do you think all experienced 'detailers' agree on what is best, what products to use, and how to do things? Did I not represent that I have not used it yet? Did I not refer the original poster to a gr8 thread where you and detaildoc and other experienced people posted? 2- the Flex benefit (more rpm's is a fact, less time a fact, orbiter safer than rotary for newbies a fact) was confirmed by MANY other detailers in my research- one on this board, and many others researched on the inet- Do you think the detailer being equal, a flex is not faster at removing scratches than a PC? Not better for a new person to polishing? Wouldn't you prefer to use less aggressive pads and polish and still remove the swirls? So after telling me I should not post, at the end of your post you say you might buy a flex as a new detailer. By that statement do you not add credence to my post informing someone of the flex? So I disagree that I am not helping anyone. 3- Don't assume- Actually years ago I did a recon of a smashed car-pulling dents, included bondo red lead Makita rotary, finished the front and hood, primed etc. . Before the accident polished the whole car to restore it. (Helped by friend) and helped an experienced 'detailer' friend restore his cars. Now it has been little over 20 years since i seriously did a car (outsourcing to others) but It is obvious an experienced detailer SHOULD be able to detail better than a first timer or me. PS- You didn't sound snippy, ..............you actually sounded holier than thou :whistles:
  19. so you always use the rubber? not carpet? cheers
  20. Hello: I have the sensors and camera (UL and MLevinson stereo with nav screen) I did not think that camera was necessary but after owning I find it difficult to judge backing up without it. The profile is longer than my previous Maxima (considerably) and the back is higher. so used to (probably a few inches but seems my tail is 2 ft longer). Also backing into my garage it is needed. Will save me many bumps! Butttt, leasing is diff. than owning. I plan to have for a long time. But if finance is not an issue, I would say get it. cheers
  21. Some sites I found...but So cant vouch for product or sites http://www.wooddashexperts.com/customer/home.php?cat=7632 this is the grill page has some other stuff on main under lexus 350 http://www.autoanything.com/car/lexus/es-3...A2608A2008.aspx good luck and post back should u do any after market stuff!
  22. Wow never thought u could do that to a rubber mat! Any others have the same issue? I like the look of the lexus mat and have never saw another rubber mat that looks as good. thoughts here folks? Lexus OEM mat versus other after market rubber mat?
  23. 1 - Hey all. Being a big guy (^6'1" -240) lb) the angle I keep my right foot at digs in and seems to make a hole in the drivers carpet mat. I did this to my Maxima mat, and now see it happening again. any thoughts on how to prevent (yah take shoe off :whistles: use rubber mat :cries: ) 2 - Hey on that thought---i did not order rubber mats yet, but need to do so for next winter. Wanting original OEM mats where did all buy them from website or dealer?
  24. I forgot to update this post...got my baby in the garage about 3 weeks ago! KMuch easier to keep it clean! As of now I still work from home so I am really missing the pollen and rain!
