  1. You guys are amazing...hit the point dead on! The AAA truck used something called, according to the driver, a "super jumper" or something like that and my car started up right away. I then turned it off, and it's doing the same thing again. The driver told me to drive for 10 miles on the freeway, which I did, and problem solved. After I went home, I noticed this: this headlight switch is in the on position. Now I'm puzzled: I thought LS400's headlights will turn it self off when the car is turned off right? So how can my headlights drain my battery?
  2. Could it be possible that the alternator is not capable of charging the battery fully (not producing enough amp) so the battery actually discharges itself over a very long periods of time?
  3. Good evening, Had multiple attempts to jump start today, no luck. I did all the steps you guys offered. I let the battery charge for 10 minutes but still won't start. Strange thing is, after charging for 10 minutes I still hear the same clicking sound as before. The engine doesn't even turn. Radio and blower motor doesn't work, but instrument panel lights up. The temperature has been changing rapidly here in Tucson. Last Friday it was about ~90F but yesterday and today there was a thunderstorm and the temperature dropped below 70F. The battery clamps are tight, however. I checked the alternator and it is nice and dry. Will have it towed tomorrow and will let you guys know what happend. I have put over $3000 repair on this car: -Engine and Transmission Mount -Powersteering Pump (rebuild) -Powersteering line (expensive, ouch) -Alternator twice (first one is a NAPA reman, which is defective) -Upper and Lower control arm and ball joints -Waterpump -dealer changed all the wires because they claim it was rusty -recharged the freon twice @ $145.00 each, dealer still could not find a leak. right now the a/c compressor is noisy, so I'm ready for that to. I don't know how much more I have to dump tomorrow. I'm beginning to question the reliability of the LS....think I'll turn to Acura or Infinity next.
  4. I didn't connect the negative jumper cable to a bolt to the ground, but connected it to the negative battery terminal. My neighbour revved his engine to try to help me start (he did so for about 3 minutes) but no luck. I checked the battery terminal connections and all is tight. 95LSBob, by saying Starter connection which location or wire are you referring to? If I still can't get it start today I'll have it towed on monday. It's embarrassing to see a tow truck towing a Lexus!
  5. Hi folks, Haven't been to the forum lately, hope everything is well. My LS finally quits on me. It did so this afternoon without warning. The car doesn't start! It worked fine this morning, but somehow it decided not to start this afternoon. All instrument lights light up, but when I turn the key I don't hear any cranking sound, not even clicking sound! Also, neither of my climate control (fan) nor my radio worked when I put the key in "accessories". My neighbor offered me a jump, but I'm still unable to start the car. After the jump I can hear clicking sound but it still will not start. I'm sure this isn't a battery issue because I had a new Toyota Tundra Alternator and a Toyota battery installed just 6 month ago, and it is trouble free this morning. Also, my neighbour's big GMC Yukon is unable to jump start my vehicle either. I'm planning to take the car to my local Toyota dealer for inspection on monday, but before I do that I want you guys' opinion, so I can be psychologically ready. Could it be the starter going bad or could it be the ECU? Any thoughts?
  6. Same issue on my 92. In fact, I don't know if they even work or not. Is there a way to test the tweeters to see if they indeed are making any sound? If you turn off the front speakers (fader control), does the tweeters go off too?
  7. Oops I see that you solved your problem. Ignore my previous reply.
  8. have you done this?: Press and hold button 1 and the upper portion of the seek/scan button for 2 seconds. "---" will appear on the screen. Press button 1 the # of times until your first digit of your code appears. Then press button 2 the # of times until your second code digit appears, and so on. Once you have all your digits, press and hold "Scan" button until the screen goes blank. Your radio should now be ready to use. You have 5 chances to get it right before your radio goes self destruct.
  9. Everytime I start my 92 the two condenser fans turn on then immediately shuts off. At least I know that both of them works, but like everybody else mentioned here, my fans never turn on even in 105F weather in the Arizona desert during summer.
  10. In my 92, when the auto button is off and I set the blower to MED setting, I noticed that sometimes the blower blows faster and other times it blows very little air. This problem is present ever since I bought the car 3 years ago. Is this a feature in the LS that automatically adjusts the fan speed to maintain a constant cabin temperature, or is there something wrong with my climate control unit? I had the Auto button off all the time though.
  11. I have the same issue on my 92, and I never have the auto on. The fan blow very little air in the "med" setting, and at high setting, I can hear the fan turning rapidly due to the whirling noise but there is still hardly any air coming from the vents. I also noticed that the fan will speed up a bit when accelerating, and slowing down while idling.
  12. My conclusion is that your radio is going bad. The radio has built in amplifier to power six of your speakers, and the amplifier in the trunk is for the subwoofer. You said your volume control must be placed at the 10 to 12'o clock position in order to produce reasonible sound. A normal radio will produce fairly loud sound at the 8 or 9'o clock position. I guess your radio amplifier is slowly going out, which implies that you loose bass effects on your six door speakers.
  13. If not you can manually cancle the radio code as described in your manual.
  14. does this happen only when you play the Cassette or does it sound flat all the time regardless if you are listening to the cassette, FM radio, or CD? The only other possibility I can think of is your cassette head being dirty. It is very strange because Lexus radios are supposed to be the best factory stock radio on the market, even by today's standard. Have you tried to adjust your "fader" and "balance" to make sure all your speakers work?
  15. Is it Pioneer or Nakamichi? Your description of the sound is not normal. I have a 1992 LS400 with stock Pioneer deck, and the sound quality is exceptional. Are you sure this is the original radio deck for your car? If someone installs a 90-92 deck into a 93-94 LS400 (or vice versa), the radio will still work but with no bass. I guess this is just because of the slight difference between 90-92 and 93-94. Many sellers on ebay mention that 93-94 radio deck will not work on 90-92 deck (or vice versa) is not true. The radio will work but there won't be any bass. It sounds like you have this problem. Also, check if your subwoofer is making any sound. You could have a bad amplifier in the trunk. If all else fails, chances are you need a new radio.
  16. yes email me and I'll attach the photos to you. The dealer have these bulbs sold independently. Just tell them the year of your LS and they'll know. hanb@email.arizona.edu
  17. Lexus dealer is still your best option. As far as I know they are the only supplier for these type of bulbs. The climate control bulbs are easier to change...they are screwed onto the circuit board. The radio bulbs are soldered to the circuit board so they are a bit tricky to change. When you open the radio make sure that you disconnect the ribbon cable first. If not you'll tear away the cable connected to the other side of the case.
  18. only 90-92 radio with CD button will work. Otherwise, 90-94 non-cd capable radio will work. A member here "Pioneersuby" sells the entire conversion kit for $500, which isn't a bad deal. You get the ES300 CD changer, Pioneer radio, and the hard to find cable.
  19. the Pioneer head unit has a built in amp to power 6 of your speakers. I think this is the amp that's blown. The one in your trunk is for the subwoofer only, so if you have bass, that amp is fine. You need a new headunit.
  20. Usually the engine mount will last a bit longer than the transmission mount. A bad transmission mount will cause the rear of your car to vibrate when going 65mph+. A bad engine mount will cause your front to vibrate while idling. I think you can DIY the engine mount. I replaced my transmission mount at a local Toyota dealer for $150
  21. My odometer stopped working at ~135,000 miles. Few months ago it started to make clicking sound as I drive, but this sound now magically dissappeared. Just use your trip meter and a spreadsheet program to keep track of your miles.
  22. Actually I ordered 2 sets from him. I have one complete replacement set not used. Let me know if you are interested.
  23. It was the belts. I had the same problem until I pulled out my head unit and changed the 3 belts. There are 2 sub belts (for cassette play) and a main belt (for loading and unloading). Contact member "Pioneersuby" for the belts. He charges $20.00 for the 3 belts and solution manual. As far as I know there is no other way to get these belts other than through him because they are imported from Japan and no longer manufactured.
  24. About how many miles should one expect a water pump to last? Also, let's say you changed your timing belt at 100,000 miles. Is it necessary to change the belt again when your LS reach over 200,000 miles?
