  1. can you tell me where in the trunk? I just need to verify that it exists before I do the installation....thanks!
  2. Hello folks, I just purchased a 92 LS400 tape deck. The original owner had an aftermarket radio installed, and I wanted to restore it back to the stock setting. Before I do the installation, I need to find out if the previous owner had the Pioneer amplifier removed. My 92 LS400, when out of the factory, is equipped with a Pioneer system, no CD changer. According to other posts I learned that the amplifier is located in the front passenger seat.....is this correct? Today I moved the seat all the way forward and could not see or feel the amplifier underneath. Could it be located in the trunk? I just need to verify that the amplifier exists before I do the installation. Also according to some other website they mention that 1992 LS400s does not have amplifiers at all ???!!! You can say I'm very very very very confused right now.
  3. Hello folks, Just got myself a 92 LS400 radio deck. Before I do the installation, I need to find out if the previous owner (he installed the aftermarket radio on my LS) had the original Pioneer amplifier removed. According to other posts, I learned that the amplifier is located under the front passenger seat...is this correct? Well, today I moved the front passenger seat all the way forward and peeked under it. I can't see the amplifier I reached under the seat....I can't feel anything shaped like the amplifier :( Am I looking at the right location? My 92 (before aftermarket radio) should come with a Pioneer cassette system. Also, some sites mentioned that Nakamichi LS400's have their amplifiers located in a different location, under the CD changer. I'm just confused where is the exact location of the amplifier on a Pioneer equipped LS400?
  4. Lost my A/C two weeks ago. I took my 92 LS to Precision Toyota and they said my freon was completely gone. After recharged R12, mechanics there told me that they could not find any leak. I'm puzzled because since the A/C system is a closed system, how can the freon be gone over time if there is no leak? Does the freon evaporate over time?
  5. I think Robis meant that if you turn the wheel in one direction, it does not have a torque that makes it go back to neutral.
  6. Just got a pair of Xenon HID light bulbs (9004 type) for my 92 LS400. I'll post here later to let you know how it goes....assuming that I'm successfun :D p.s. Don't laugh at me if I mess up :P
  7. Yes, check the forum, but especially look for the following: (very common for first generation LS400's) 1. Is the power steering pump leaking? 2. Is the high pressure power steering hose leaking? 3. Are the upper and lower ball joint bushings torn? 4. Are the engine and transmission mounts torn? 5. Is the water pump leaking? 6. Are all four windows going up and down properly? 7. Turn on headlights, have someone press and release the brake while you stand behind the car and check to make sure that all lights are functioning correctly. (3 on left, 3 on right). Last but not least, check if the timing belt has been replaced the second time. It is necessary for a car with that kind of mileage. Good luck! B)
  8. Hi there, It is normal for that light to light up and dissappear (3 sec) after engine starts. If you turn your key to "on" position, it should stay lighted up. This "radiator" symbol light is a low engine coolent level warning light. If it dissappears after a few minutes, it isn't a problem, but check your coolent level. My Check Engine Light some times come on during very hot days (I live in Arizona). It then dissappears after a few minutes. I'm not concerned right now. Don't know why these lights come on and goes. Maybe faulty sensors? By the way, what is a "wining" sound? :)
  9. You know this answer more than than any one of us. Flip a coin and see which trim got lucky :D
  10. Hello, please follow the link below to solve your tickling problem. This link has a very comprehensive description on the cause of tickling and solution to fix them. http://www.cureline.net/lex/howtos/info_ticking_engine.htm Good luck! B)
  11. I just come across an interesting thought: Will a 90-94 GS400 radio fit on a LS400? I checked and re-checked to see that they are identical in every dimension, except for the buttons on the deck. Are the plugs the same also?
  12. rumor has it that if your freon is low in a LS400, there is a safety system that automatically shuts off the compressor to prevent damage. Is this true?
  13. Hello, If you are talking about a constant grinding like noise when the wheel is turned, it indicates that your powersteering reservoir is near empty. Immediately add powersteering fluid to prevent further damage to the ps pump. I had the same problem on my 92 LS400. Right now the pump is leaking, and I had to add ps fluid (half a bottle) every month. Usually the problem can be solved by just adding the fluid. The ps fluids you see in WalMart stores will work just fine.
  14. I found this LS400 Radio on eBay, but I don't know if its Cd Changer capable. I asked the seller and he doesn't know either. Can someone follow this link below and tell me if it is CD Changer capable? There is a nice photo of its rear, but I don't know which plug is for the CD Changer cable. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2463493749
  15. Thank you all for the information. I went to the form archive and found a post that mentioned about this CD changer conversion. In the post it stated that first of all, I need a CD Changer capable Pioneer radio. Secondly, it wants 2 plugs and a 14 foot cable that plugs into the Pioneer radio end and the CD Changer end. This is the part I don't understand. According to the post, the "plugs are hard to find." Are they not available in Lexus Dealer Parts Store? I want to know if I have to ask someone to custom make the plugs for me, which is a hassel, before I get the CD Changer. Thanks!
  16. Greetings all, I recently purchased a 92 LS 400. The previous owner had the origional factory radio removed because it doesn't have a cd player. This LS 400 has a Pioneer AM/FM Cassett system instead. I don't really like the current aftermarket radio because first of all, it can only load one cd at a time. Second of all, it just doesn't "look" right inside a LS 400. My question is, is it possible, in anyway, to replace this aftermarket radio back to the original factory radio, but this time with the one that has the CD changer? As you know, my LS 400 is not equipped with a CD changer in the trunk. Instead, there is a rectangular "hole" where the changer should be. Is it possible to install a changer in that location? And will the wirings be compatible? Thanks for your support! I'm getting sick and tired of having to change the CD one at a time while driving. Its both unsafe and annoying.
