  1. Register the car with Lexus and they will send you the owners manuals. That will tell you what your supposed to have. BTW the dealer in Texas (great place) is SEWELL Lexus.
  2. Yes, replace brakes BEFORE the light comes on. The light comes on when ther is very little time before you are metal to metal. Change the pads before the sensor makes contact with the rotor, it saves you $$. B) What is this e-brake stuff ??? The e-brake is a hand operated brake that is NOT DESIGNED to provide normal stopping for the car. It is only to provide wheel locking/braking in an emergency situation. The rear shoes are really thin and should last forever, hopefully. The pads, all 4 on my SC have mechanical squeal sensors, which contact the rotor when the pads get to thin. they WILL NOT damage the STOCK rotor just be REALLY annoying. Other models of Lexus like the BMW may have electronic sensors that can be damaged, and would have a dash light.
  3. Hi all you Lexus guru's, I need to add about an inch to my SC400 ground clearance. I have stock everything with 55 series tires. Is there a easy bolt-on spacer or something to stop the grind on road stuff (like parking stops). Thanks <_<
  4. Thanks Neo and Scoupe. It appears we all are in the same area. Glen
  5. I DO NOT want to get into new wheels due to unemployment. Anyone know of a front brake upgrade using stock wheels ??? Thanks
  6. Is the battery area still in good shape ??. I want the insulator shield that goes around the battery. Please reply to RedRocketGEM@Netscape.com I am in San Jose,Calif. Thanks
  7. Will these mods also work for a '99 SC400 ???? My front rotors are due for the scrap pile, with 75K Thanks
  8. I would like to put an external cell antenna on my SC for better phone performance. The car is wired for an antenna. The wiring goes from the center console to the power AM/FM antenna in the rear. My dealer in San Jose cannot find a suitable antenna for the GPRS (1.9GHz) that is designed to go on the back. Any one got any ideas ??? Thx :D
  9. You don't say what year you SC400 is, but there is a lockshop here in San Jose that has extra keys with transponders. He can cut the actual key too. If you want more info contact me at "redrocketgem@netscape.com".
  10. Changing the battery on removing it for a long time has NO effect on the cars ability to respond to the remote. The car is progammed to the remote's internal code.
  11. I have the Mitchell data CD's. If you still need the alignment specs send me an e-mail to RedrocketGEM@Netscape.com and I will dig them out. Glen :D
  12. I would like to second that request for info on installing a cell phone antenna and using the existing wiring. My '99 SC400 has the same cable in the trunk. BTW, the shop manual shows that the same cable goes to TWO radio antenna. One is the motorized mast and the other is in the rear window. Thanks Glen (San Jose, CA)
  13. ;) I hear lots of opinions but few actual facts. Contact a oil analyst place. There is one in Oakland, CA and others around the country. A spectro and chemical analysis of you oil will run around $40. They are also great for questions about motor oil weights and temperature etc. Amsoil sells a sampling kit. I have had GREAT luck with them and they are helpful. Amsoil also sell very good products, like a reusable air filter abd the oil. Their filters are desinged to trap particles about half the size of other brands. I agree that true synthetics are best and use Mobile One 5-50W. A petro to synth change-over should be done with a crankcase flush. Glen (SC400) and former semi-pro cycle racer
  14. A good place for keys is Sewell. You MUST register with the national Lexus owners database to get one from them. They cut the key friom your VIN. If you do NOT have the integrated remote & key, life is MUCH cheaper. Good luck
  15. If you haven't found it yet, try your local telephone yellow pages. As you said the sellers are all independent, so they need to advertise.
  16. Register your purchase with the national Lexus database. I got a set of owner manual for FREE. they explain this seat stuff and much more of course. The registration is also required to get keys made easily. Check Sewell for key prices.
  17. I have a Mitchell CD and it's not the best . There is a lot of good info but it requires a lot of digging. Get the paper version and check Sewell in Texas. Glen
  18. Thanks all I got one from eBay and got the car to program too. Done deal.
  19. :D I need a master full function key for my '99 SC400. The actual metal key part is not as important to me as the remote control/transponder head. Being unemployed and unpaid for 8 months, I can't afford the new ones from anyone. The key must have "FCC ID HYQ1512V" on the back of the head. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :magic:
  20. OK, thanks. I am referring to the pad sensor (sreaming metal piece) of course. The rear rotors are worn and uneven enough to make me want to machine them before replacing the pads. This car came from the east coast of USA. The fronts are fine but the rears are worn. I have little history on the car since I just got it. But the fronts look facrtory original. A method to release the rear emergency brake shoe ( I assume it's a drum type) would be appreciated. Glen
  21. I have a '99 SC400 that need new rear brakes (at 49K miles). How do I release the parking brake so I can remove the rotor???? Is the mileage of 49,ooo unusual for rear brake replacment ?? My dealer tells me I have 2-3 mm before the sensor. Thanks Glen
  22. I have a full remote master key for a GS300/400 for sale ($50) or trade. The key has FCC ID: HYQ1512V on it. I really need the same key (full remote function & transponder) to fit a '99 SC400. My car rejects this GS key. Any other key info on the SC400 would also be appreciated. Thanks Glen
  23. I found that Sewell Lexus will make keys. They require that you register with Lexus "Customer Care". They cut the key from the owner database. I have not tried this service myself but am contemplating doing it, so anyone else that has ant info would be helpful. Depending upon the options, you may also need programming directions for your car. Glen
  24. I am searching for a Service Manual set for a 1999 SC400. Anyone have a set for sale or know of an equivalent source.. Thanks Glen Email @ GlenMurrayGEM@Netscsape.net phone Cailf (408) 929-3701
