  1. It's part of Lextreme. Here is the link: http://www.lextreme.com/ Thanks fot the reply
  2. I just put a new starter on my SC400. What a job !!! My car spent the first half of it's life in Boston so I still finding tree leaves in far off places. There were acorns in the cavity where the starter is !!!. I noticed the timing belt tensioner was rust coated. Can I remove it from below and reinstall it with out messing up the belt ??? The local dealer service manager told me that it was safe as long as the engine was not cranked will the tensioner was out. BTW the V8 forum has a very good article on this started R&R. :D
  3. Have any of you Lexus expert figured out how to turn off the these light and still leave the others function normally ??? Thx :(
  4. YES, I got it already. Please contact me privately. My Lextreme user name is the same Redrocket . Thx Glen :D ←
  5. My 99 SC400 is developing an intermittant starting problem. I twist the key and hear a click but no crank. Usually a second or third twist will get it going. After reading the post here, I believe my starter is going. I have the Lexus manuals that say removal of the intake manifold is needed, along with a bunch of other things. Anyone got any helpful hints on the process or on getting new parts, like gaskets. Thanks Glen
  6. :o I was looking into the same thing. My dealer says the SC400 V8 IS an interference engine ???? Let's hope some one who know for sure pops in here.
  7. Having just done my 99 SC400. Use your choice of coolant, with DISTILLED water (I settled on the new Prestone "mix with anything) stuff.. Find the vent plugs (mine has two) to make sure you can drain the entire system and the radiator petcock. Get the capacity from manual/drealer/anywhere mine was 11.5 Us qt and get a antifreeze checker, along with somewhere to PROPERLY dispose of the old stuff and the flush water.
  8. If you register the car with Lexus customer care, they will send you the owners manuals for FREE. :D
  9. THANKS gents, I did get new 60 series tires that did the job. My speedo now (according to theory) reads 0.4 MPH slower than before at 60 MPH. I can live with that !!!
  10. I spent most of yesterday drianing and refilling my radiator. The total capacity of my SC400 is 11.5 quarts, but I can only replace about 4 qt. at a time, which is the radiator (I assume). What is the trick to draining the entre system, remove the thermostat or what ????? A guy on the general forum suggested a drain plug. Does this exist ?? Thx Glen
  11. I have decided to use the new Prestone green stuff. it advertises to mix with any coolant. My SC had red from T. As noted above I do not want to mess with the DexCool. <_< I do add Redline Water Wetter. I became a believer in it when it reduced my Honda Goldwing temp. I just need to find the rear plug.
  12. Please see my post from earlier. What do you have to do to drain the block ?? Thx
  13. That is the problem. The 11.5 quart is the entire system. yet, I can only drain the radiator, without doing ???Something ???? How do I drain the block ????
  14. Help Experts, I spent most of yesterday drianing and refilling my radiator. The total capacity of my SC400 is 11.5 quarts, but I can only replace about 4 qt. at a time. What is the trick to draining the entre system, remove the thermostat or what ????? Thx
  15. After reviewing the posts here and many other opinions on other auto message boards. I have decided to stay with standard Prestone (green stuff). The main problem seems to be centered around a COMPLETE drain. Since that's not convient and the new aold will mix, I am staying with the green stuff. Thanks :D
  16. I am thinking of putting the Prestone DexCool long life coolant in my SC400. Anyone have any experience or opinions. Thx <_<
  17. Hi Gang, just had to replace the battery in my 99 SC400 Redrocket. I discovered there is supposed to be an enclosure around the battery called a heat shield. Is this widely used ??? Anyone know where I can get one ??? I have been trying the salvage yards but get "none found" so far. <_< Thanks
  18. The diference between 5W30 and 20W50, for the first numbers (5 & 20) would only be seen when the oil is near 32 deg. F, freezing temp of water). Even in Alabama, the oil would not be that cold very long. If your really worried about it change your own oil with a straight synthetic. They usually have much wider viscosity range. GEM
  19. Novus makes a whole line of plastic polishes and the like. They are usually available at a plastic place ot a motorcycle shop. Glen
  20. Look in the SC forum at a post thread by OCD on July 15. You will find all the answers. Glen :D I tried to sent you a personal message (PM) but was told you did not have the permissions to receive a PM.
  21. WHEN WILL THIS MYTH GO AWAY ???? An engine will not leak more (or less) with synthetic oil than it will on petro type. Use a good grade of synthetic and a non-Fram filter and don' fret.
  22. When you get it apart. Use hot water (distilled prefered) on the parts and you should have no probs. Good Luck
  23. I agree that proper filling the car with oil is not rocket science and should be properly done. The choice of oil grades is a different story. the first number is the winter (thus the W) weight at 32 deg. F. the difference between the 5W and 10W could only be detected by a lab. The tolerance for these viscosity numbers is so wide that 5W and 10W from differne source could be the same. The same argument goes for the upper high temp. number. It is a measure of the viscosity at 212 deg. F. If yoru REALLY interetsed in oil performance, get the oil analyzed. It reveals a lot about the real story in your car. Glen
  24. My SC400 has a MPG readout. On a 400 mile trip from San Jose to L.A. and back, I actually got better mileage on the 91 stuff. This WAS NOT a well controlled test and traffic (bad LA) may have had a lot to do with the diff.but it is something to look at. I notice no pinging on either 89 or 91, but afraid to try 87... <_<
  25. You need a OBDII (that's Onboard diagnostic version 2) scanner to get the code. Hey AWJ is there another way to get the code ???
