  1. Yeah its perfectly safe, I always leave it on.
  2. Here's some pics. This is the Nakamichi: This is the Pioneer: Sorry thats the best pic of the Pioneer I could find. Of course as soon as I say the Nak is rare 99-00, they all have it on ebay LOL. Notice the different tuning buttons, and the addition of the second little button to the right of the cassette player? Thats for the ASL.
  3. Well, not exactly. The Nakamichi was an option all throughout the model run of the LS400, from 90-00. The Pioneer stereo was always standard, rgeradless of the year. In 01 Lexus replaced Nakamichi in their lineup with Mark Levinson because of Nakamichi's continued bitchyness (they refuse to have their stereo run through a navigation screen, hence why you could never get the Naka stereo with the nav system on the LS400, or anything else for that matter). Basically the easiest way to tell is the tuning buttons at the bottom of the radio face. If they're slotted, so that there the part that sticks out is only the center of the dial, then its Pioneer. If its Nak, the entire dial will stick out, these are the BASS, TREBLE, MID, FADE and BALANCE dials. Also, if there is a button anywhere on the face that says "ASL" then its pioneer. This is the Automatic Sound Leveler, it raises and lowers the volume based on ambient noise. The Nakamichi does not have this function. The Naka is a funny option. Almost all 95-97 have it (dont know about the early ones), and many 98s do also, because in 98 it came in the wood leather wheel/HID package and most of them were shipped that way. On 99s and 00s however it is fairly rare, since both those options (the wheel and the HIDs) became standard. Its also quite rare to find a 98-00 with the air suspension, but a lot of 95-97 have it. Go figure... How you enjoying the LS? Sweet car huh? What color did you get?
  4. Went today, couldn't find them. What brand are they?
  5. Others will know how to steer you though ;)
  6. Actually there are particles in the paint (not so much in the glass) that the prewax cleaner can't remove. In fact, a buffer can't remove, only clay can.
  7. Yeah, you dont want to rub really, you want to lift the dirt out with the product. I've hurt steering wheels before being to aggressive, they're pretty hard to clean. However, NO leather cleaner should discolor leather just by being splashed on the seat. The leather cleaner should be able to dry completely on the leather, and not damage it.
  8. I've also heard that Griots makes a great product, or products as it were, they make damn near everything.
  9. "Plexus" is a good product too, although its more for the maintenance of the results you get with a product like Novus.
  10. The difference you're probably seeing is the smoothness and refinement of the GS showing through. I've noticed with all Lexus, they're so smooth they're deceptively fast. That is, they dont feel fast, but they are. You'll definately have to watch for speeding tickets.
  11. I think he/she means an actual HID conversion, am I right? sure, its safe for your wiring. In fact, HID lights are much more energy efficient than halogen lights...
  12. Sure beats $3,000 the repair the air suspension huh?
  13. Anything that will fit on the 01 or the 02 will fit on the 03, there've been no changes. Unfortunately I'm not aftermarketly learn-ed, but at least I cleared that up ;)
  14. Hey Dave welcome, glad to see you here. Are you DaveGS4 from CL?
  15. So you bought similar bulbs at Pepboys? I'll have to check that out before I pay $50 for the Phillips ones...
  16. Unfortunately you cannot disable the warning screen. People have tried as much as even reburning the DVD with no luck. As for the new upgrade, not sure where you got your info, but it wont be out until September.
  17. Just turn the phone off and that wont happen.
  18. All stock HID headlamps regardless of the car are 4100k, thats the only DOT approved color temperature. I personal;ly have never seen an HID that I thought looked yellow. As for upgrading the 8100k, sure you can but if I were you I'd really think about that first. The lights are going to look much more purple and not as deep, much more like imitation HID lights. You'll also have less light output (by a good margin actually) than the standard 4100k system. My ES has 4100k, and I've sat it right beside other temps, and like mine the best.
  19. Yeah I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure its fine.
  20. 94 isn't going to do anything for your vehicle if its specified for 91 or above (all Lexus), 91 in some markets or 93 here is fine. 93 is also what you'd want to run in the LS400. As for running a car on a higher octane gas than it is reccomended by the manufacturer, you're just wasting money, both on the more expensive gas and the lower gas mileage you're going to get. If the car is designed for 87, then anything higher than that is just wasted. As for running lower octane gas, you're losing power and gas mileage for sure, and may be causing deposits. My feeling on it is, yes premium fuel is $.30 more a gallon, but I'm driving a $40,000 car, its worth it to fuel it with what it requires. If the fuel cost is an issue, maybe you should look at trading it in for something more economical. The Toyota Highlander is similar to your RX300, less expensive and has lower compression, so it doesnt require the premium fuel.
  21. I can't find anyone that does actually. They make them for the LS, GS, and IS but not the ES. Not yet anyways.
  22. Yeah, no offense but I think the blueish blinkers look terrible, ricey like fake HID headlamps. The draw for me about the silvervisions are they look clear, which I think will make the front lamps look great and jewelike, as well as the rears, yet they still blink amber. I haven't ordered them, but when and if I do I'll take before and after pictures. I've seen several online and they look great, when the lights are on you'd never know, when they're off they're totally clear. Like the new taillights on the RX330, they're totally clear until you hit the brakes, then they glow red. Very cool. They must use these bulbs, or something similar. I was actually talking to the ball and chain today (she hates the amber on all cars, don't know why) and she mentioned the running lights on either side of the front bumper. Anyone know a company that manufactures clear replacements for them? I'll put an amber bulb back in, however.
  23. This happened to my dad and I when we were changing a flat on his LS400, luckily the spare was already on. Did you have the emergency brake applied? The factory jacks are crap.
  24. Naa nevermind, its $50 for two pair front and rear, includes shipping. Heh, what the hell. My satisfaction is garunteed!
