  1. But you're concerned about handing, most ES owners are not. From a ride standpoint the AVS doesn't do anything to make the ride BETTER, it just can make it firmer.
  2. I had to edit your post, I know that you're upset but we're careful about the type of language used around here ;) As for the mats, try a couple things. Goo gone, ice, and seltzer water. If those don't work, Lexus-Parts sells the mats as an entire set only.
  3. Thats why, March is when business finally starts picking up as people buy new cars for the summer ;) Happy birthday Alan's ES! lol
  4. 93LS- Your car only has whats called TRAC, its a traction control system that helps spinning from a stop. Starting in 98 the LS has whats called VSC which includes a yaw skid control system that corrects for slides, oversteer, understeer etc.
  5. VB- My dad and I did that a few years back, its AWESOME! Have fun. I'm planning on being at the meet guys, everyone who can come SHOULD!
  6. Cute, but there's no market for a Lexus truck. Cadillac does well with theirs, but Lincolns was a failure and they're trying again. Not Lexus's style ;)
  7. Alan- When did you buy yours? I bought mine in Jan. and Jan and Feb are the worst two months in the car business, sales are almost nonexistant. Best time to buy a car is January ;) allexus- Theres more bargaining room on the base car than there is on the car with nav/lev as its a lot more rare. Only about 20% of ES' have the nav/lev and most dealerships only get 1 or 2 a month in their inventory if they ask, otherwise none. Dealerships have plenty of base cars. $1500 over invoice for a nav/lev is a good deal, $1000 over is GREAT.
  8. Its the skid control. Works well in the rain, not so well in the snow.
  9. Looks great!
  10. I agree with Monarch. 50,000 miles or not, the car is 11 years old. You just cannot expect an 11 year old car to operate exactly as new. Also you wind up putting yourself in a worse position by nitpicking at the car, noticing all the little things, every jostle, every creak and letting them get to you. You also can't expect an 11 year old car to be as high performing as a new one. Technology changes. While the LS was a fast sedan back in 93, today its really not at all. The first gen LS' perfomance is similar to my ES', high 7s to 60. Nowadays the LS does 0-60 in 5.9 seconds! Few cars anymore take almost 8 seconds to get to 60mph. I do agree with everyone else though that the LS SHOULD effortlessly travel at any speed. You should look down at the speedo and be utterly shocked at times like 99 was. Why yours doesn't do this may just be a factor or previous use as Monarch said. Hitting curbs, potholes, parking barriers all degrade the stregnth of the wheel and suspension components and effect the ride.
  11. Thats been a reasonable price for a loaded ES for a while. I got my ES for $35500 back when the MSRP was $39675.
  12. Agreed, moving this to the general discussions forum.
  13. I think thats probably a pretty good deal.
  14. I'm there! SW03ES 03 ES300. Thats 30 minutes from my in-laws, done!
  15. Well, I always prefer a new car so if its a question of new ES330 vs 2002 ES300 I suggest the 330. *I* dont see any difference between the two in the way of smoothness. I would drive them back to back and see what you think. I think every car has it, it doesn't effect every driver. You mean the NHTSA investigation? Lexus won't have a response until the findings are out.
  16. I've heard that bug spray works, but I've never tried it lol
  17. Well the transmission and engine on the car are warrantied for 80,000 miles. I dont see any reason to buy a warranty upfront other than the 3yr/100k Certified Pre Owned warranty. Extended warranties are almost always a waste of money. I am a little confused, are you looking for a 2002 pre owned or a new one? The reason I ask is "buy at the beginning or end of std lease?" I don't understand that question.
  18. I'd get a third opinion, take it to another independent mechanic, and whichever one he agrees with is right. Even if it is the rear main seal, don't let the dealership do it it'll cost way too much.
  19. Managers are moderators with administrative duties. We help run, grow, and promote the club while watching the forums also. Basically we're 1/2 moderator, 1/2 admin ;) Alan, I've been in situations where I've needed emergency acceleration and I didn't feel as if my life were in danger. I can make the car hesitate if I try, but it has never occured in my normal driving. Oil gelling isn't a big deal as long as you change the oil every 5k miles, its warrantied until 80k I think. The warped rotors were a TSB, a new ES wouldn't have the issue. The transmission is really a personal thing, doesn't bother me but it does bother others. Best to drive and test. I don't regret anything about my purchase of the ES. What you've got to understand is that you really have to take the amount of "problems" you read about on a board like this with a grain of salt. For one, we're all a lot pickyer than most drivers. For two, people tend to search out these forums when they're having problems already, meaning theres an unrealistic proportion of people with problems and without. Despite all the problems you hear about here, the ES does VERY well in all consumer based surveys...
  20. I've put 17,000 miles on my ES and I can tell you, I have never experienced a time in which I felt my safety was in jeapordy. I agree 100% with Stevie, the lag is easily corrected in your driving habits to where you wont even notice it.
  21. I've not used it, but its probably a generic store brand cleaner wax. I doubt it would have very good performance. Look around in here and in the detailing store for some ideas ;)
  22. Can you post a picture of that? Thanks.
  23. No, the entire unit would have to be replaced since the screens are different. Adding OEM navigation is way too expensive to be a viable option.
  24. 99- A Lexus, even the LS isn't expensive at all to maintain at high mileages if you do two things. 1. Keep up on things. Like any car if you let it go and don't watch all of the wear items its gonna hit you in the face every time you go in for service. Having to replace say the shocks isn't a big deal when you know they're going to go, can plan for it, and its not a shock. 2. Don't use the dealer. The Lexus is really easy to work on, they're pretty simple as luxury cars go and really anyone can service it. Find a good independent mechanic you trust. Just look at the people on here with 14 year old LS with 250-300,000 miles, they're not having the bank broken with repair costs ;)
