  1. It depends on the company. I can't think of any metallic paints that are single stage. MOST paint is clearcoated.
  2. Really its just a function of getting the prep right and then picking an LSP that has the right optics, #16 works well, P21S works well, Even Pinnacle Souveran works well but its pricey.
  3. Cool! We'll have to try this.
  4. If you want to give them away free as a gensture of goodwill I'll post an ad in the Buy and Sell for you right now. If you want to sell things to our members for profit then you have to be a contributing member of this community. This isn't ebay, its the Lexus Owners Club. You saw that you couldn't sell them, so stormed off in a temper tantrum and threw them away? Thats pretty juvenile. I think you'd best move on along I dont think you'll fit in here.
  5. Oh it will be extremely reliable, I was just countering what some people here have said which is "The Lexus is perfect, it will run for 500,000 miles with never one problem as long as its maintained" and thats just not true. Its a machine, and all machines no matter how well made have problems. Some models have more than others. As a whole the vehicle will be very reliable, but its not a gift from God. That SC sounds like its in good shape, have an independent mechanic that knows japanese cars look it over and see whats up with it.
  6. Wanna know something sad? Meguiars has discontinued the #16. It doesn't fit into the government's new VOC regulations. If you want something off the counter Mother's new SynWax has been impressing me. Like I said in the other thread, good to see you again!
  7. RX4- Stands to reason the RX would be louder than the Camry, its an SUV on 18" rims and its a higher profile vehicle. The RX is designed to feel kinda "trucky". The Camry itself is very quiet though, so that doesn't mean the RX is loud.
  8. Which is why he gave you a break...
  9. Great to see you again! Been a while.
  10. I wonder if someone makes a bumper that this has already been done to... Off topic, is that your car? Man you'd never know the paint condition...
  11. This isn't true at all. The ES/RX series of Lexuses have some very serious engine and transmission concerns, the transmission in the AWD RX300 seems fairly weak and I've heard some problems in the ES line but not as many. These cars also have a serious engine gelling problem up until about 2002 unless the oil was changed according to the severe maintenance schedule. Lexus also has problems with their gauges in older models needing to be repaired, the first gen LS and SC have a bad power steering leakage problem and a stupid design that causes the leaking pump to fould alternators. There are also significant problems with the LCD screens in the dash that can be very expensive. No car line is perfect, all in all Lexus is a fantastic car but to say there is no such thing as a weak component in these cars is pure fantasy. Monarch and some others will tell you about huge hundreds of thousands of miles of life of specific performance out of certain components. Bear in mind those are PAPER figures and don't translate into reality like they assume they do. For instance Monarch's quote of 400k for an A/C compressor is rediculous, it depends on how often its used, the climate. My dad had one AC compressor go on his LS at about 80k miles. American cars, while on average are definately less reliable than a Lexus or Toyota are not accross the board garbage. I know people with hundreds of k on Saturns and they're fine. Monarch's mom's Saturn, 14 years old and 38k miles? Come on Monarch be straight with the guy, that thing site 95% of the time and thats whats leading to component failures. You know as well as I do that sometimes driving a car is better for it than not driving. Its not as cut and dried as some people would like to convince you it is.
  12. Come on guys, lets not quibble.
  13. b0- Rockville was out? Wow they have a lot of loaners.
  14. Yeah...I like that. Thats going to be hard to do though. The bumper cover is made out of a flexible plastic and its going to be hard to fill those in in such a way that will be smooth and won't crack down the road.
  15. In my experience most of Griots products are relabeled versions of other products and are overpeiced.
  16. For the RX400h? Where did you hear that?!?!
  17. Did you call the police and get a report written?
  18. I also would never use soft scrub. In a pinch you can use a Mr Clean Magic Eraser but soft scrub is full of harsh agents. The fact that you got dye is not a good thing seeing that you have coated leather, you probably scrubbed off the protective coating.
  19. It depends, when dealers run out of loaners they will rent you a car from a private rental car company, thats when you get non Lexus loaners. If they have nice cars like Cadillacs they'll rent you those but sometimes you have to take what you get. My dad put his car in once (back when he had the 98 LS400) and all they could find him anywhere was a Geo Tracker. They were sorry and took 10% off the bill, but he was happy just to have a car to drive off. Since you had to wait a while my bet is they were out of loaners and someone had to go rent you something. Thats more common in lower volume areas, the dealers here have fleets of 20-30 loaners so its rarely a problem. Be happy they didn't just tell you tough luck, dealers don't HAVE to give you a loaner for service (and some don't) all they have to do per Lexus is give you a loaner for warranty work. You can always just drive your RX330 tomorrow...
  20. Your dealer is stupid then. Every TSB may not apply to YOUR ES because of its build date but every one of those applies to the ES330.
  21. camlex- I'm from DC and I put 22,000 miles a year on my car, LexKid is from RI and he and his wife put 40k a year EACH on their cars. What does region have to do with anything? Washington DC isn't exactly blizzard conditions, I think we got 7 inches of snow total this year. We're not huddled up all winter not going anywhere, this isn't Antarctica. Only have time to write? Come on, I work my !Removed! off. I got my mileage estimate from what he said, he said he bought the car with 86k on it 2 years ago and now it has 98k on it. Thats actually less than 10k a year, thats 6,000 miles a year. Thats extremely low use and the car should last him a long time with regular maintenance.
  22. There are kits availiable, check out www.properautocare.com and see what they've got.
  23. Still, its never advisable to put ANY kind of dressing on the tires of a motorcycle, even on the sidewalls. One slip and a little dressing on the tread and you're a dead man. Ask a lot of serious bike enthusiasts if they put armor all on their tires, they don't.
  24. Nakamichi is definately still in business. They do high end home audio etc. The reason Lexus uses ML now is that Nakamichi refused to let their system feed through the nav screen, meaning you couldn't have nav and nakamichi. The nak was an option on the GS300 and the GS400.
  25. The 330i is impressive, but its not a competitor for the GS300 its too small.
