  1. From what I can find, the fin on your roof is for GPS usage most likely, and the rear window grid is used for FM. I suppose you could go to radio shack and see if they have any inline boosters for antennae's and see if you can install it somewhere on your line to see if that makes it better or not.... If it is not your factory deck in there, I might even suggest researching a different deck that may have a better AM reciever built in... Not all radios are created equally ;)
  2. Most AM radios use an internal transistor and wire coil to pick u AM, and many of them seem to get boosted and better signals whent he FM antennae is plugged into your deck as well, so I think they also can recieve some signal through the FM antennae as well.
  3. I have a better timekiller for you...........Take your 1uzfe and put it on a transport pallet and wrap it up nicely...Send me a shipping bill and I will send you my address in Manitoba ;) J/J... Nothing like some good old imperical testing though!
  4. Pishta, I hate to say it, but you have been ripped off here for $3000 by my guesstimate. I just checked my 91, and I have NOTHING like that at all. in one of your pictures there is a factory indent toward the grill by about 6 inches from the strut shoulder, and thats it, smooth the rest of the way... My hood also fits perfectly flush after 17 years of use.... I know with a collision they may never be able to get it perfectly straight again, but they need to at least attempt with an undamaged hood. My guess is that the hood was damaged during transport to them, the dents look to be in spots where they may have leaned the hood on a bar or side of a truck while transporting. Best of luck, hopefully they fix it a second time, and make sure you go over it before it leaves their building, don;t let them "just leave it out back for you" in the off hours.
  5. Yes, let's stop the snow tires thread here before it turns into an ugly twin of the other....Shhhhhhhh
  6. Glad to hear your happy. Once you have your little issues repaired, just keep the car maintained well and it should run like new for you for it's entire life. You will not be dissappointed!
  7. I would be more suspect about the quality of the gas you are using first. The Candian Owners manual (I am sure it is the same as the American, although we get headlight washers :P) says 91 octane. The octane number is the gasolines ability to resist pre-ignition due to compression. The compression ratios of your 1uzfe are designed so that 91 octane rated fuel will not produce preignition, whereas a lower value might. The fuel will simply mot ignite, pre-ignite, or ignite properly. 91 and higher will make it ignite properly, however 95 rated octane, or even 120 rated octane will do nothing more than 91 rated octane did to resist preignition... My first check would be the quality of the gasoline you are buying, making sure you are happy with their fuel.(and believe me, I know of some places when I was a young gas jockey that would load premium up with 87 octane rating, small station, not a major one, but it's possible) Go ahead and try a higher octane rating and jump to a 93 or 94, and see if that solves things.....also double check your owners manual again for that rating tecommendation.
  8. you can pull your o2 sensors and run resistance checks on them to see if they are working fine, rather than spending the money when you might not need to. go to www.lexls.com and look for the tutorial on o2 sensors, it tells you what the resistance should be and how to measure it.
  9. In the 1uzfe engine in it's stock mode 91 octane is plenty good enough, you will get nothing more from your gasoline by boosting beyond that. I looked into trying out the toluene/atf mix before to boost from 87 to 91(I am VERY rural, 87 or dieel only in my parts), but I found a place I could get 91 that I know I will stop at least every tank of fuel, so I am not willing to do the extra work and cleanup of mixing, carrying, purchasing and what not of the mix for my own personal octane boosting.
  10. Realistically? Toyota Camry or Mazdaspeed6 If money wasn;t taken into the picture? BMW M5 for sure
  11. Does it have heated mirrors? And yes, anytime you have temperature differences there is a chance for water to appear. I came from the temperate cloudy wet city of Vancouver, and it still shocks me now when I step outside in my new home in Rural Manitoba just what the cold is capable of. I went out in my car this weekend(my toyota, not the lex), and found the INSIDE of the window to have LARGE drops of ice formed, simply from the interior being about +20C and the exterior being about -25C and then the car being shutoff outside.... If your side mirror was warm in some spots and cold in some spots, there is a very good chance that ice could form, or even just different expansion properties of the glass and whatever is behind it could cause a crack, or maybe make a tiny unseeable nick expand. Got off track there... Do you have kids that like to play in the garage?
  12. The car runs on 8 cylinders ALL THE TIME. You should be able to expect to get 550-650 km's for 75 litres of fuel. Power steering leak is bad because it drips onto the alternator and then you may need to replace the alternator and powersteering pump, which might be hard for you if you do not have parts for this car available in your country. The cooling system for this car is very good, with an engine driven clutch fan that is always on when the engine runs. You may prefer an electric fan that you can add on yourself because that way it will cool your engine after you stop driving (if it is installed properly). I do not think you will have too much trouble with the engine temp on this car, it was designed very well to handle many conditions. Many people from Arizona in the United states own them and it gets to 45 degrees there on a regular basis in the summer, and I have never heard of them overheating because of it. I am unsure how to repir the stereo, but you could always get a new stereo or a different stereo if it is important. Best of luck, if you buy the car, you will be very happy as long as your powersteering pump gets repaired and your alternator is still good!
  13. I know where your coming from, i went from a 2004 Echo with a 1.5L engine to a 91 ls400 with a 4.0L. The gas works out about double for me, and yes, it sucks. I have learnt that the way to combat that feeling though, is doing the same thing as going out to eat. Eating at McDonalds or Wendys is very cheap indeed, but the atmosphere is bright, loud, and very unromantic. I usually pay at least triple to eat in a comfortable, romantic, friendly atmosphere at a nice sitdown restaurant. So, I used to have 40 litres get me about 600-650 loud, stiff, lagging, peppy kilometres, and on long trips, somewhat unhappy kilometres. NOW, I use 75 Litres to get me about 600-650 smooth, quiet, warm, relaxing(seatheat), exhilerating, and also crisp sounding(Nakamichi did alright) smiling happt Kilometres... It's all in the tradeoff, but paying your mortgage and credit cards down faster is a feeling that can trump all of that if you are a commuter who does alot of distance each month.
  14. I am sorry i cannot offer much help, but your serious? Someone stole a sunroof right out of your car????
  15. Bought my Seafoam today, $12.95 a bottle at NAPA in Brandon MB(ouch), I thought of buying the big tin for future use as well, but I didn;t have the $85 on me, lol... DeepCreep was also $12 a bottle. Has anyone ever used or have direct experience with their transmission treatment?
  16. yeah, I am plannig on the throttle body cleaning, I have found plenty on it..... As far as the cats and the noise, I am not too worried, there are only about 1000 people within a 3 minute drive of my town in total...(Rural Manitoba).... TipTop yes, and thanks for the advice on doing the throttle body first... Going to do the new plugs, timing belt, wires, rotors... all that wonderful stuff in the meantime while I wait for the lease to expire on my other car. Already replaced the brakes and rotors all the way around, climate control, fixed the sunroof(relay), added the new antennae to the radio, new front balljoints, O2 sensors, and of course various lights of various sizes for various locations......
  17. It would seem that alot of people here use it to keep there engines tip top and clean, that was what I was thinking, being that i am still new to the car, as it is to me, i like to get it in the best condition possible...... Perhaps dropping the cat and doing it is a better idea?
  18. Well, $2900 seems like a decent deal..... I would look into the price of a good 1UZFE engine on ebay as well (I think you can get them from $800-$3000 .... Anyways, that becomes your worst case scenario is car price plus new engine price.... Like I said, that would be the worst thing you'd need to do... I cannot diagnose anything based on what they say there, but I am sure it will not be near as bad as the cost of a new Engine, all depending on YOUR mechanical ability of course... anyways, I am sure it will not require anything that drastic, so thats my thoughts on the situation.
  19. [i looked at the MSDS sheets and it seems pretty basic, there must be a copycat or other product aroud that is very similar though.... How much do you use per treatment?
  20. thanks guys! Hope my local (45 minute drive away) NAPa dealer carries it, Crappy tire had no clue what I was asking about out here, but they aren;t too bright there either anyhow... Do you guys use it regularly on a timed/km'd schedule, or just when you feel the need due to engine performance? (I imagine it is the 'motor treaatment' prduct that everyone uses)
  21. Hey guys, I cannot find Seafoam anywhere that bI have looked, and have never heard of it outside of the Lexus Forums.... An internet search brings up many different shades of carpet and curtains from the 70's, but I am having alot of trouble finding anything on this chemicl..... I am in Canada, so maybe they don;t sell it here?? Anywaone got some links, pics, or some more info on it for me, or even a place to look for buying it??? Maybe there is some form of equivalent out there? Help me out guys and gals!
  22. make sure yo check the sc430 forum, your in the LS forum right now...
  23. Make sure you take the time to delete and clear the error code after recieveing it ;) Sometimes that can slip your mind.
  24. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/lighting/ti...taillights.html about 3 pictures down it shows you how to remove the back lights. It's also in your owners manual if you still have one.. Took me a bit of swearing the first time, lol...Anything Lexus could to to keep the car quiet they did, and you really notice it with the taillights.
