  1. thats a great looking ride man!
  2. FOUND IT! Not cheap either, but here is a link... Ebay nakamichi amp auction It even has the same part number, but like I said... NOT cheap.
  3. check ebay, I know I seen one on there less than a week ago. Do a search for lexus or ls400 though, not amp
  4. I think they only came in that brown colour and grey, but I am not 100% on that.. As for the clluster needle, so a search.....when searching, always use "+"...It took me a whiel to figure it out, but "+insturment +cluster" will get you all threads that have BOTH words in them, where if you do not have the +'s, you will get threads with just the word cluster in them, as well as ones with just the word instrummaent in them.
  5. chillin .... When you show up with the LS, all of yur friends will want to be in it as the comfort level for them will be pretty good compared to their cobalts and dodge's(just a guess as to the common car a 19 yearold has).. That being said, ask for the gas money and make a penny or two while you are at it ;) If you choose the LS, you will not be sorry with your ride.
  6. My 91 is Black Jade Pearl (VERY dark greenish black) and it is tan interior with the brown on the dash and trims. At first, I wasn;t a fan, but over time you will really appreciate the feeling you get from the lighter colours. Here is how the steering wheel shoould look in comparison...
  7. If I say "Pulse Plugs", how much do you want to bet it goes on for at least one more page....Sorry jchrome
  8. There's just not alot of them up here nc211... Remember, we pay alot more for our cars brand new than you do as well, and have for years. I bought my 91 with highish mileage in Vancouver for $4000 all in (I managed to talk the taxes and paperwork BS charges off the price, they were asking $3995). You really are pressed to find these cars in that price range in any decent condition. Actually, from what I have noticed, any good lasting imports (accord, camry) maintain their prices in the $2500-$4500 levels for 1990 and up as long as they still drive the way they were intended. On the flipside, a 5 or 6 year old sunfire will cost about the same in most places, but we all know why. We also have alot fewer people in our vast country, which means alot fewer cars, and to go along with that, the high income earners here are of lower percentage usually than in the states because of our taxation system, so there really are far less of these cars around than one finds when in the states.
  9. Keep in mind that whent he fine members here mention spending 1000-1500 a year on their vehicles maintenance, they are talking about keeping one of the silky smoothest vehicles on the planet running as if it was brand new still, not just keeping it alive. And I know the insurance in ontario is killer, unsure why you guys ever went private.... I am $119/mo in manitoba for my insurance, and was $145 a month in BC. Definitely take your time and be happy with what you get. Something tells me that if you are looking at caddy''s and lexus' that an impala or taurus or corrolla just isn't your type of deal...
  10. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_LS I know we shouldn't always trust wikipedia, but it resells me my car everytime I look at it. Read about the LS400 here, it wasn;t named one of the most reliable cars on earth for fun. Most "issues" that the LS400 has can be solved with the help of the wonderful people on this site. My LS400 had many of the exact same issues that most people have had with them, and I managed to fix them all myself, and I am sure, with a little of our help, and your ambition, you can handle most of the stuff too. Not much compares to the feeling you will get when driving this car, as well as the sheer joy you will have just to have somewhere to go once you own one. I seriously doubt you will get that feeling with the impala. The cadillac possibly, but I put my trust in the toyota and honda companies many years ago, and will never look back at an american car again unless something drastic changes. Like SRK said, even if you spend the same amount on repairs, the lexus will retain it's value longer than either of the other 2 cars, and you will be able to sell it again and not take on a major loss. As far as life left, I have read alot of these cars going for over 400k miles, and rarely do you ever hear of someone who maintains their LS400 well end up with it dying of natural causes. Look over the car really well, drive it, slowly over bumps, take it up to highway speed, run all of the controlss, check that every button inside the car does what it should, and then give us a list here and how much you ar elooking at paying for it, and you will get alot of good educated opinions to help you out on the matter. Best of luck!
  11. nc, thanks man, I am actually excited about getting my fingers grimey, LOL, not today though, the windchill is at a mighty -48C (-54 F)....my caliper rebuild kits are scheduled to show up on thursday, hope it gets warmer by then ;)
  12. I am not 100% sure but i think the lexus website (www.lexus.com) has that resource. i have never used it, so it may just show the service history performed at lexus dealers, but worth a try.
  13. Alright, I am wondering about wheel offsets and the LS400 (1991). From what i can gather on the forum, the stock offset is +50. I am putting 16" rims on it, and am wondering if anyone knows what offset range is possible on this car? I have read some people using certain offsets and getting fender rub over bumps... The rims I want have a 35 offset, but like I said, I am unsure what this will do to the fitting. If anyone knows a range, I would appreciate it. EDIT: Some of the wheel sites show 42 offsets on what they say will fit a 1991 lexus ls400
  14. yeah, I think the advice of both of you is well taken, I will have to wait until spring though when I next have a chance to do the job, and yes, I have to [pay shipping from my dealer just as much as I would on the internet, but I will have another order to make with them for the spring plugs and wires job anyways, so it will be then when it is done. Thanks guys! NC211 - can you link me to a pic of which polishing bits you are talking about? I do have a dremel, and if I am going in that far, I would't mind hitting it with that too.
  15. thanks Eating up, I understand where you are coming from, but I was wondering of the members who have performed this taask what condition there gasket was in. I have no worries about reusing a gasket that is conditionally still fine. My preference is obviously to replace with all things considered equal, but in my case, they are not equal right now, it is more of a time thing. If you did yours, what was the condition of your old gasket? Was it brittle, in pieces, gone??? Thats more of what i want to know.
  16. I don;t mind running 87 octane ONLY WHEN I NEED TO as long as I do not "punch it" or raise the RPM too high, as 87 rated octane will usually preignite under the conditions that the 1uzfe will subject it to(high-ish compression). It should run just fine on 87 if you never truly step on the gas hard, and drive really easy, but like I said, the manufacturer wants 91, so thats what she gets whenever I fill up if it's available.
  17. bring out the wd40 and spray your mechanism and manually move it back and forth as much as you can.... cycle the handle in the car as much as you can as well. Make sure that the hood latch loop/pin is adjusted (no reason that it shouldn't be) to fit right... I am not even sure if the lexus has adjustments for the hoodpopper, but it is somethign to check as well.
  18. bigste, it is not fuel of lower quality by any means, just because the octane rating is 87, 89, 91, 92,93,97, whatever... It is an ability to resist preignition(resulting in knocking). If your car has the same engine as mine, and you check your owners manual and it recommends 91 octane, than you have no reason whatsoever to think that above 91 octane will be "EVEN BETTER" for your car or provide more performance. It is simply a measure of a fuels stability under pressure, and thats it.
  19. The car was designed to run on 91 octane rating. running 87 in my cr will mean I have to drive it like i am 85 years old, and that is not why OI have this car. If I drive the car the way I do, and use regular rather than premium, my fuel economy will go down as my car tries to compensate for knocking, and I would wager that it is more costly over time than using the premium fuel. Also, highest octane rating doesn;t mean that it is best of the best. The highest rating in my area here that i can find is 94 rated octane, and no chance in hell am I going to drop that kind of cash into my tank for no reason. it's 91 only unless I am stuck in boonies and can only get 87 (like in my town).
  20. The really smart guys are listening to satellite radio..... Sorry, I had to
  21. Hey guys, before the seafoam treatment it was recommended to do a throttle body cleaning, so I will. My Question: LEXLS says to replace the intake manifold gasket when I do this. Have all of you had worn out or torn gaskets? I would love to replace it obviously, but where I am I have to wait more than a week to get my parts (like the gasket). Like I said, is replacing it more of a "your there so do it" thing, or is it usually damaged to the point that it SHOULD be replaced? Thanks guys!
  22. Pimpin both forums??? How about Pimpin whomever took an old Camaino for an LS???? Good on you, I hope you gave him some money along with his 'trar'... Or is it a 'cuck'?
  23. I work on old diesel tractor engines on a regular basis, and what you do entirely sepends on how long(and how hard) you want it stuck... Superglue is by far the best thing you can use if you want it to stay on there solid for a long time, silicone will work quite well but may contain acid. If it is something you want to be able to disassemble again in the future, my best recommendation would be to take some locking wire (used on aircraft, but found at most tool centres) and loop it lengthwise (in line with the wires) around the clips and then tie it. Follow it up by wrapping it with black electricians tape.
  24. my washer hose on my 91 LS was completely disconnected and it just filled my hood blanket with flid when I used it... I am nt sure the proper way, but I grabbed the hoodblanketing at the spot I needed to (in my case it was at the junction by the drivers nozzle), and I pulled with an upward motion (towards the grill). I damaged the blanket a bit, but didn;t rip the outside of it, just some damage inside where the blanketing attaches to it's attachment point. I recommend gloves, my hands got itchy from the insulation when I did this. Once it is opened a biut, you can get your hands over the lip of the hood and push the hose back on, but it still won;t be easy, at all. Best of luck!
