  1. perhaps looking into getting a dye or covering it with something is the best idea... A Lexus emblem sticker? A CD pouch? anything would look better than those buttugly things..
  2. Here are some pictures of it. The piece can move directionally while staying attached in themiddle as shown.
  3. Hey guys, I have some of my intake off today, and I am interested in a piece I have. The plastic part that enlarges on the dirty air side of the air-filter is what I am talking about here. inside of it, there is a large wire clip. it is ovaled and clips in on both sides of the narrow portion of the piece. I will try to get a picture of it for you guys soon, unless you know what I am talking about. The only thing I can possibly conceive is that it might keep the filter from falling forward during braking.... Let me know and I will try to get a picture for you all!
  4. I look forward to your results! I have one good unit running crazy farenheit numbers, and my black unit is Canadian Celcius and I long to get it working again so I can resell the farenheit unit...
  5. The best way to hook up to a new 12V source will always be directly from the battery or the 12V bus bar on your fuse panel. Be careful if you plan on splicing into a 12V wire, as you may overload the wire you are pulling power from if your draw is large enough.
  6. For the antenna, go to www.ebay.com and search for a Lexus LS400 antenna replacement. Pretty easy job for anyone who has even a little bit of mechanical aptitude. You should be able to do it for under $20. www.lexls.com has a tutorial for replacing it, you only need to use half the tutorial from lexls, as his is for the whole dissassembly and rebuild of the motor, all you need is the telescoping antenna.
  7. + Trigger - Trigger + Source +Output Souce = 3 Output = 5 Trigger + = 1 Trigger - = 2 The source and output are correct, the trigger I may be wrong about, but probably not. With the trigger to be sure, run a continuity check between the socket for pin 2 to ground, and then from pin 1 to ground. The socket that shows continuity to ground is your "trigger - ".
  8. Brandon is there just in case the occasional "really educated" Canadian recognizes it. I am in the sticks about 45 minute drive southwest of Brandon. In all honesty, I am unsure why ayone out here without a farm has a truck. They are very good at keeping the highways clear here, and with the rough condition the roads are in I never enjoyed any form of "truck ride" on them. Also this is why I have no problem taking overdrive off for slowign down on hills ;) As anyone who has been here knows, a mountain in manitoba is similar to a fotthill in Vancouver, my previous city.
  9. lexls has a tutorial on installing a hitchkit. I plan on doing it this spring. I won;t use it much, but being far from civilization, it will be nice to have a trailer to grab the occasional load of home supplies and make up for not having a truck anymore.
  10. floating feeling comes from your suspension, seat, or tires. I am sure your seat is not going to get changed here, so look at our wheels or suspension. The most direct impact you will have will be to stiffen your suspension, plain and simple.... How big is your bank??? lol plus sizing your wheels will give you more control, but definitely harshen your ride, but the floaty feeling should be in your suspensionm and will probably still be there. Best of luck!
  11. Please enlighten me 2rotor..... I am very curious about this. If I had a honda civic, the ecu would be programmed to run on lower octane rated fuel, so putting a "faster, hotter burning, higher octane rated fuel" into it's tank will actually not burn hotter or faster in it because of the ECU? Please help me out here, I apologize for my ignorance. Question for 2rotor.... What about my non-ecu naturally aspirated regular compression engine? Will the fuel burn faster and hotter in that since there is no ecu to tell it not to accept that higher octane rated fuel? Does this mean that octane rating in fuel can translate to more speed if the vehicle has no ecu? Does my lexus have a sensor that knows what the octane rating of it's fuel is? Once again, I am here to learn, please help me out.
  12. I am trying to give you an educated response, but your statements contradict themselves. Your first statement tells me that putting high octane fuel in a car makes it goe faster because of it's burn speed and temperature. Your second goes to tell me this will not make my Honda Civic faster. Why not? Does the speed and temperature of this "high octane rated burn" change when put into a Honda Civic? I find this statement interesting.... "Octane rating has no direct impact on the deflagration (burn) of the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. Other properties of gasoline and engine design account for the manner at which deflagration takes place. In other words, the flame speed of a normally ignited mixture is not directly connected to octane rating. Deflagration is the type of combustion that constitutes the normal burn. Detonation is a different type of combustion and this is to be avoided in spark ignited gasoline engines. Octane rating is a measure of detonation resistance, not deflagration characteristics." Are they wrong?
  13. glad to ehar you are alright, that is very small damage for the speed you are travelling, btu safety is #1. If I were you, I would sell the vehicles parts on EBay if possible, or save it and buy another one and use your current parts to get the other one up to snuff. Structural accidents at that speed can create alot of unexpected damage that you mmight not see at all. Remember, what you did was also the equivalent of throwing your engine at that same speed into a wall, so you have that impact force in all of your bearings in your car, and everything that exists inside of that vehicle got jarred at 45 MPH - 0. I used to wrok on aircraft, and when we had a propeller strike an object, common practice is to do a full inspection of all of the bearings, and in some cases, a full engine rebuild to make it airworthy again because of the potantial to brinnell any bearing attached to it. Best of luck!
  14. HOLY CRAP,..... The best part of that was the last line where he just says : "TRUST ME"
  15. Overdrive is a situation in which the cars wheels will be rotating at a higher rate than your cars engine crankshaft. It is meant to save fuel and reduce engine load, and if you are going very fast, it is an actual speed gear. I turn my OD off when going down hills sometimes when I do not want to bother braking and just want a nice smooth slowdown. Many people say not to use overdrive with trailers, and I agree with them. It may produce gear cycling in which the transmission jumps into overdrive and out of overdrive into the gear just below. However, if you are towing a trailer at highway speed (100km/h), then I do not imagine having using your Overdrive would be much of a problem unless you approached a hill.
  16. I am still wondering if anyone has the part number for the pins that the caliper bolts into. "floating pins" i suppose would be the best name for them. They are the ones that are bright and shiny when they look good, and they sit inside of the caliper mounting bracket and each have a bushing on them and have that accordian style seal around them as well. Thanks!
  17. Here are tutorials from our esteemed member lexl: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/brake THanks, I have no problem with the job, just the part going missing, lol, but thanks again, the lexls website is a great resource.
  18. Very nice! Must be near a street eh? I seen a BIG shadow roll by there near the end...
  19. Hey guys, I feel like hell because I think I may have lost something..... I am wondering first of all if someone has a parts breakdown for the 91 ls400 fwd brake components including the bracket for the floating caliper, along with the floating pins especially... The piece I feel I lost is one of the brake pad support clips that looks like a small square silver spring (alliteration anyone?). I have tried to egt my 24 hour or even one month membership for the repair manuals, but they do not allow Canadians this service :( If anyone has some part numbers for me, or a picture with a part number list, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
  20. Cassanova!!!! What a guy eh? Let's try it out on YOUR car first........ Thats alright though, I'd have done the same ;)
  21. bigbuggie, Your door sensor switches are very similar to those on a refridgerator... A little button that the door pushes in when it is closed... The contacts for the button are most likely dirty. or perhaps the plkunger portion of it is sticky occasionally. Take a good look at it.
  22. with good snowtires and some weight over your rear tires (I use bags of salt intended for water softeners), this car does okay in the snow. Without winter tires, it is a very slow and careful drive during any sort of loose or packed snow conditions.... I found the traction control to really help in the conditions here in MB. Without traction control, even the slightest tap on the gas pedal can spin the tires on the snow. Does this one your thinking of have traction control? There will be a button for it aabove the ashtray if it does. (If your confident in your snowdriving, you will be alright with it, but definitely recommend snows for you)
