  1. Here is some info on the first part...you will have 10mm less with the 50 aspect ratio compared with your previous 97 LS' '60'. Below explains it. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=7 As for specific 'winter' tires (I say winter because they are generally more popular than snows today). I think your 2 best choices in your size are.... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...re1=yes&place=5 & the... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...re1=yes&place=3
  2. Enjoy nc.....they should be fine for your area of the country. B)
  3. You might also want to try places like e-bay or perhaps even an auto wrecker or salvage yard should you not have any luck on here. B) Thanks, I saw some on E-Bay but they are replicas, not sure of the quality. If you have an account, e-mail the seller. B)
  4. Well, ruffle a few feathers on occasion is what I do. :whistles: ;) I think were both stubborn for lack of a better term, wouldn't you agree? :P
  5. They don't come from here, but from other car forums I'm a part of. The two complaints are usually road noise and reduced fuel economy. I'm getting 1 MPG overall lower than I did.....that's it. B)
  6. As do I sw & we keep things civil for the most part as well. B) ;)
  7. I appreciate that 98es B) Nothing has to turn into a peeing contest......eveyone has their opinions & it's all good.....I think sw & I have a tendency to butt heads on occasion, especially in the tire forums as it's a hot button subject to us for some reason .......but I guess we amuse other members if make them roll their eyes every once in a while too......it's all in good fun. I hope those searching for tire advice look at both sides of the debate. :)
  8. Yup, those Michelins do look intresting Steviej. B)
  9. Any idea what came with the car from the factory.....red or green?
  10. You might also want to try places like e-bay or perhaps even an auto wrecker or salvage yard should you not have any luck on here. B)
  11. Like I've mentioned before.....everyone looks for different things in tires. I'm glad your happy with your Michelins 98es.......they should provide you with good service. B) I agree that were not comparing apples to apples.
  12. I'm more partial to JVC when it comes to electronics myself lol......I haven't had the greatest luck with Sony over the years actually (and everyone told me they were the best). ;) So no I know that Sony was expensive & it did not last. :whistles: The TT's were out well over a year before I 'pulled the trigger' on them........I wasen't one of the first out of the blocks & rushed to install them. I felt that was a decent amount of time to get feedback before I made that decision. ;)
  13. I took my ES in this past November to my Lexus dealer for a complete inspection, engine coolant flush & some extended warranty work.......I specifically requested the shop foreman to do the work (he was the gent that did all the work on my ES back when I first bought it & did an amazing job at that that is why I asked for him). I requested he use the pink 'super long life' Toyota coolant & he advised against it......and respectfully suggested I stick with the original factory red 'Toyota long life' stuff even though the dealership would have made more $$ on me.......I will not question his judgement as he is the 'Yoda' of his dealership. I would stick with what is recommended in the owners manual. ;) I like sticking to a 2 year or 30,000 mile interval.
  14. I agree that a T speed maybe not the absolute best choice for a 1995 LS 400......(I was focusing more on nc vehicle.....not the LS 430 which are different). Having said that, I disagree with you that the TT & CT are designed for only vehicles like minivans & the Ford Taurus. It's not that I like & 'have to have' the latest thing on the market sw........it's just the way it worked out this time around with the TT's. I didn't choose the MXV4's because they weren't the latest thing........they just didn't compare well for what I was looking for in a tire at the price they command. Again, I am not aware of the noise complaints that you mention for the TT's One has to ask when they were installed if they were properly installed, balanced, 4 wheel alignment at the correct tire pressures.....many get a new set of tires (or 2 at a time instead of 4) & just have them installed & balanced....no 4 (or even 2 wheel) wheel alignment & many tire shops don't even set the tires to the proper air pressures when you leave the shop (or the owners over inflate as was the case the other day that was posted here). There are many different factors here that can lead to owners complaints & it's easy to blame the tire itself without checking everything else first. ;) Yes I did speak very highly of my Toyo's.......so did others that had them (not just yourself...at the beginning) and generally I was quite happy overall with mine......the pro's outnumbered the con's for most of their useful life......but I knew when it was time for a change. But the road noise wasen't a factor.....so it could come down to the different generations of ES' we own.
  15. I think Michelin overprices their tires to begin with & yes I think close to $200 (at least in Canadian dollars for my sizes) a tire is too much to spend for an 'average' tire at best which the MXV4's are. sw, you emphasize road noise above many other factors in a tire (which a tire like the TT's have in spades to begin with).......I lean more towards poor weather grip & the safety aspects that go along with that higher on the list (overall value is up there too) when choosing tires (again, everybody is different in what they look for when choosing tires) so it all comes down to what the particular person is looking for their vehicles.....I understand & respect that you have much more experence with a specific vehicle like the LS more so than many of us....that's more than fair & I won't contest that......however the MXV4's are getting 'long in the tooth' & their cycle life is near it's end soon (I know they have 'updated' them recently as well). Not many like the fact they have to pay a high premium for a tire (and to some degree the name) that's been around since the 90's when one can choose something with higher technology, longer life & that is less expensive. ;) Just my 2 cents.
  16. I agree that there are better choices for your LS400 over the Symmetry....assuming they are for your 1995 LS with tire size 225 60 16 (for which you have many choices....so much so that it is easily to get cofused). Having said that, I wouldn't limit your choices to only Michelin. I also agree that one should not necessarily treat the reviews on the tirerack site as 'gospel' but as a frame of reference in general. Based on what you have mentioned your looking for in a tire nc (very quiet, comfortable, good in the rain with a smooth ride) I suggest the following (in order): - Goodyear Triple Treads (premium all season with an H speed rating & I no doubt sound like a broken record here). Not suprising that this tire is my first choice, I have them on my 2001 ES 300, my 2003 Subaru Forester XS.......I have recommended these to friends & family members over the course of more than a year that own everything from Honda's to Buicks, Infiniti's to MB (and have driven many of these same vehicles after these tires were put on). There are some that have said due to the 'aggressive tread' pattern that they will be noisy.....I'm pushing 30 here & have very good hearing......I have no idea what these folks are talking about! They are one of the quietest set's of tires I have installed on my personal vehicle & the over 15 set's thus far & counting for the aforementioned people.......rest assured, I still have all my friends & family in their good graces & have not heard any complaints. In fact, they go out of their way to tell me how happy they have been with their selection......& the outstanding performance & traction they provide in bad weather conditions including heavy rainfall......I know snow is not a huge concern in NC.....but even that aspect is covered should you experence it, plus all the qualities your looking for in tire with an 80,000 mile treadwear. They came in first overall of 18 all season tires in a recent CR tire test. The "Noise" category BTW was rated as excellent to further reinforce the noise issue. Check out www.goodyearassurance.com for more info but this is Goodyears 'Flagship' premium all season tire & should be at least on your radar screen before you make your final decision or to be honest.....I think you would be doing yourself a dis-service if you didn't & they will be quite a chunk of change less than pretty much any Michelin for more tire. More info... http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jk/041201.htm http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...e1=yes&place=59 - Yokohama Avid TRZ This is classified as a 'standard touring all season tire' & is also highly rated (in the same CR tests.....it placed 4th overall). Very good & long lasting treadwear & was rated "Very good" for noise & wet weather performance. They are a T speed rated tire in your size & will be even less expensive than the GY's. More info.... http://www.canadiandriver.com/news/041105-5.htm http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...e1=yes&place=56 - Goodyear Comfortread Part of the Assurance line of tires, but a step below the TT. Having said that, GY goes out of it's way to promote the ride comfort above all else. It is a T speed rated tire in your size but unfortunately this placed 13th overall in the CR tests as the 'handling' was more of a weak spot (rated 'good') for this tire, however "Noise" was rated very good as was wet weather performance. More info... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...e1=yes&place=58 There are a lot who like the Bridgestone Turanza LS line as well......I am not a huge fan of BS tires due to past & bad experences, nor have I driven with these tires.....which are up there with Michelin price wise. I hope this is of some help....& feel free to ask any additional questions & keep us posted. You might want to see these tires for yourself 'live & in living color' so you can get a better idea of what your getting rather than pictures online......I suggest going to your local tire shope that carries these & others. B) If there are any other folks here that have these tires, please provide your feedback....I am curious as to your opinions. Good Luck! ;)
  17. lmao.....I think you needed to add 'Lexus' in there somewhere bud! & steviej.....let's hear em guys! B)
  18. Is this the tire nc? http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...eModel=Symmetry If so, overall this tire is nothing to write home about. What exactly are you looking for in a tire & at what price range?
  19. Well perhaps....I'd sure like to know what Lexus was thinking with the Bridgestone RE 92's as an OE tire over the years (I'm guessing fuel economy was much more important & won over the safety factor of good grip.....even in light rain). The MXV4's are catagorized as a 'grand touring all season' tire though. But understood about the Dunlop's. B)
  20. Both of those tires are considered 'ultra high performance all season' tires sw (at least that is how tirerack classifies them).......a not exactly a necessity for a car like the ES in the stock size. The 5000 would have better overall traction however (depending on if one chooses the asymmetrical or symmetrical type). ;) The 4000's I'd pass on if winter weather is an issue.....as you would need a set of winter rubber.
  21. Well to be honest, I think it looks ridiculous.....but an intresting concept. B)
  22. Agreed, Welcome to the club rusty......please try & be as specific as to what the problem is & what you have done on your own thus far to narrow down the problem. The more specific details you can give us, the better we can assist. B)
  23. LOL This is good guy's.....keep going......I'm trying to come up with something, but I'm throwing a blank here at work It's 4:48 am anyway. ;) I'll see if I can come up with something. B)
