  1. Rust proofing is a definate must especially for the winters we have here in Ontario where salt is used and eat's the car over time (unless it stays well under the freezing point). If any Ontario members want any info on a excellent rustproofing shop, let me know......my guy is fantastic & even does celeberty's rides! & is about one third of what dealers charge and his products are MUCH better than stuff like Krown and the like! B)
  2. My point exactly jr. B)
  3. Wise choice SW B) Once you get them on your ES, let me know how they are performing (send me a PM if you like). I'm very confident you will be very happy with your decision. Keep us posted.
  4. How did the transmission shift feel? As it could be a number of things tranny might not even be the problem. What kind of service has the car had as far as tune up's? and major maintenance is concerned?
  5. 20" ? might be a bit too big don't you think?
  6. I've got "package 3" which is everything (including heated seats & mirrors) except chrome wheels! I have both the Canadian & American 2001 Brochures as well & an engine block is not standard equipment. The said I could get one for about $185.00 plus tax to get one installed but said it wasen't necessary since the car is garage kept & I use synthetic oil. Now is the block heater "drilled" into the block or what is the process they use to install it? I was quite suprised as well that one was not "standard equipment as well" & yes I'm sure it's a Canadian ES 300 B)
  7. Agreed :D Mobil 1 is what I am going to stick with as well.
  8. Do you have bills you can refer to, & see if a coolant change was performed? Where was the car serviced? at a Lexus dealer or independant shop?
  9. Thanks SW :D The tire noise is a non issue my friend.......Now I read earlier in this forum that one of the tire places you mentioned said bad things about the Toyo Proxes TPT's? OR Toyo in general? All the tire companies make some garbage model tires such as for the Nissan Maxima back in 2000 & 2001 but having said that, the same can be said about Michelin, Bridgestone (the Ford Explorer fiasco!). The Proxes TPT's do not fall into this category.....I wouldn't be suggesting them to fellow Lexus members if I wasen't pleased with the performance, handling, price & overall value. You won't be disappointed......geez someone should forward this to Toyo USA & I should get paid for this stuff lol ;) No worries SW, the Toyo's are a wise choice. B) The Falkin 512's I've heard both good & bad things depending on the ratio of the side wall........check out a canadian site: www.tiretrends.com on the right side of the screen you put the tire size & see what is available & the Toyo will be there along with the Falkin.....but big difference in the warranty for both tires so be carful & if memory serves, the Falkin's are an "ultra high performance tire" which in my own opinion is overkill for the ES.
  10. How much was the engine replacement?
  11. 1500 miles is overkill in this members opinion.
  12. Gents, I have driven on BOTH the Michelin & Toyo Proxes TPT's. The michelin is no where near the grip in wet & rainy weather as the Toyo's! Snow traction is more aggressive as well not to mention they are cheaper! What do you have to lose? I just came back from my honeymoon, drove from Toronto all the way to Key West Florida in my 01 ES and no tire noise, no loss of air pressure, handling & grip were awesome! Just did a rotation and if you read the forums here & in the ES threads......I have been praising the Toyo's up & down......I still am! My family runs on Toyo's & I will be putting a set of TPT's on my wife's 2003 Ford Focus ZX5 as well! Michelin is a fantastic tire no dought......but it depends on the model one get's! The Michelin comes a distant 3rd or 4th place behind the Toyo's & I'd purchase another set when these wear out, but probobly not for another 60,000 miles with proper maintenance Go with the Toyo's (V-Rated) & take the 30 day trial........you won't want to take them back afterwards. Good Luck! Any more questions you might have, feel free to PM me.
  13. LOL steviej! I couldn't have said it better myself. That's how I was able to afford mine too & never had a problem :whistles:
  14. Agreed sk! B) it's important for those who live in a nothern climate where we have extremely wide temperature change between summer & winter......not to mention the ES does not come standard with a block heater which puzzles me somewhat as well
  15. Cool calculator! B)
  16. Lol bdonk, I hate public transportation.......that's one reason I bought such a nice car in the Lexus! :P lol
  17. I think the early to mid 90's was the last of the ES standard transmissions due to the sales numbers being in heavy favour of the automatic.
  18. Fair enough monarch :) Quite the technology advancement since the days of those vehicles however, but understood. ;)
  19. I hear ya Bryan B) My wife is from a small hick town between London & Chatham called West Lorne. My dad's a realestste broker & we can't get anything decent under 275k! in Toronto.....hopefully the market starts coming down soon as first time buyers can't afford anything in the big city Brenden
  20. The Allante & "hatchback" Seville of the mid 80's Are probobly in the top 5 worst of all time too lol
  21. Hand's down the worst Cadillac steviej! B) Also if the Northstar engine has a bad oil leak, one has to take apart part of the engine to get at it in order to replace a seal or gasket.......machanics have said (depending on the location of the oil leak) 12 - 24 hours labour! :chairshot:
  22. How do you find them? I noticed they are just awesome in the rain, & taking hard corners is like the car is on rails with those shoes on!! B) Excellent treadwear for an ultra high performance tire to boot!
  23. Wholy mpb! $19.50 a filter? WOW! I'll stick with what I'm using now thanks lol. Thanks gents! monarch, perhaps if the security company did use the better filters & oil, they could have got well over a million miles lol j/k monarch ;)
  24. Are we talking about the early 90's Seville with the Northstar V8 or the regular 4.9L V8?? Big difference! I have heard horror stories from many sources (including several Cadillac stores in Toronto) about the cost nightmare & how labour intensive it is to repair the Seville. One must remember were talking about the "General" here & they are not regarded (at least back then, as they are getting much better now) as in the top ten automakers as far as reliability & quality is concerned so I agree were comparing apples to oranges here. The Seville was on my short list when I bought my ES & because of "word or mouth" from mechanics that have worked on both vehicles, it was no contest to stick with the Lexus B) What part of Ontario are your from bdonk?
  25. Thanks tundra, it's good for six years & how many miles? What's the difference in cost compared to the regular red "long life" Toyota coolant? a few bucks more?
