  1. How do they differ from the regular ES? any pics of what they look like?
  2. If you go the private route, make sure you take it to a reliable mechanic before anything else as well (even with service records!), if you don't have one, talk with friends & family as to where they take their cars to be fixed/maintained. Paying a small fee for a couple of hours labour is a small price to pay instead of getting stuck with thousands of dollars of possible problems that you were not aware of. I even took my 01 ES to MY mechanic even though I bought it at my Lexus dealer & it was still under factory warranty. Some might call that overkill......let's put it this way, I was double sure I didn't get a lemon. As parts are not exactly cheap for a Lexus. ;) B)
  3. I did the same calculation......I might be getting the milage I am because of the VVT-i feature & and more refined technology than a 92 model as an example but I'm sure there are others factors as well.
  4. I'm pretty sure the 97 - 01 ES have the winter/summer wiper feature. B) Quite handy actually. One nice feature Subaru has on their all new Legacy & Outback models is a wiper de-icer feature......worth it's weight in gold in the northern climates! Lexus should consider this feature as a "winter" package. :)
  5. There shouldn't be a drivetrain issue. I agree with the advice given here & are you going to replace the tires? If so let us know what kind of tires your going to put on the car......I would recommend the Toyo Proxes TPT's. If you check out the threads on here & in the wheel & tire section you will see that they come highly recommended by myself & others. Better than Michelins, Bridgestones & a lot cheaper to boot....an EXCELLENT value! B)
  6. The "Lexus" extended warranty covers quite a bit more than your average extended warranty (the tech's at the dealership pretty much have to go over the car with a fine tooth comb before delivery) and there is no detuctable......I bought mine when I purchased my 01 ES, haven't used it yet, but my regular "bumper to bumper" warranty expired while on my honeymoon so it is now in effect. No problems yet but I'm glad it's there. It covers the car till 115,000 miles I think (180,000 kms) & I'm just over 52,000 miles so lot's still to go! B) Read the fine print on the contract beforehand....with both the Lexus extended & the non Lexus warranty.
  7. The pink Toyota "super long life" engine coolant is already "pre-mixed" with a 55 - 45% misture of Coolant & distilled water accordingly......so if you choose that stuff, you don't even have to buy any water! Just flush out the old stuff & pour in the new. B)
  8. Thanks SW B) I am going to put a set of the TPT's on my wife's 2003 Ford Focus ZX5 within the next month as well....I can't wait to get her lousy & extremely dangerous Firestone Firehawk GTA-02's off her car. Now my entire household (5 cars) will all have Toyo tires! :D
  9. The RPM's usually drop when the car is in gear.....in your case I don't think the car was warmed up long enough so that's probobly why the large drop in RPM's.
  10. Really? One example is at a Lexus/Toyota store in Toronto, they have a 93 ES with about 80k for $13,900! Check www.lexus.ca & do a search for a "pre-owned" ES all accross the country, you will see what I mean. :)
  11. You get what you pay for I guess :whistles:
  12. Same thing here in the Greater Toronto area (GTA).
  13. I've tried a NAPA wiper blade (not sure the model but it was the best blade they offered) & what a difference it made over the Bosch blades!! No comparisn! B) I will get the NAPA blades again even over the PIAA which I think are WAY overpriced. :whistles:
  14. You might want to check out the used car section of the consumers guide website or purchase the used car book at your local book store. It's on their "recommended" list & an excellent write up! B) Try MSN auto's as well.
  15. That's one of many complaints with that type of product Geo.
  16. There are a number of "clear" films if you will on the market. According to my guy that does all my detailing & rustproofing it's a waste of money & if you do go that route to stay away from the 3M prooduct. I checked into this & I can't remember the name of the product (do a search on this forum or in CL on the topic) but the other product was perfectly clear......the 3M stuff was quite "foggy" as they apparently use an inferior & cheaper adheasive which makes a difference in the overall appearance of the area your trying to protect. All these products are quite expensive too......the producet alone is like $25 - $40 but they charge you an astronomical amount to install it. So far the highest I've seen is about $379 plus tax!
  17. Used car prices should not be any different in BC or Ontario. All the dealers when the cars were brand new paid the exact same price for their cars. I found the prices quite simular all over Canada actually. Are you looking to buy the car privately or from a dealer? Many "private" sellers have no idea what their car is worth & come up with a number well above what the car is actually worth (the car dealers do too......but their excuse is they need to make a profit! :chairshot: ) . I got 30 mpg + on my trip down & back from Florida easy! B)
  18. Agreed, it's unfortunate to be sure, but that's what the warranty is for. B)
  19. Agreed steviej, I was suprised & very impressed when I took my ES in for some warranty work to get my dome light replaced under warranty. The made several different pot's of top shelf coffee, free newspaper, 600 channels on their TV & they even washed, dressed the tires & vacumed the car when they gave it back to me!
  20. I'd put either the Toyo's or Yoko's on my short list. The Goodyear Eagle GA's are garbage.......just look at the results on tirerack.
  21. Your owners manual should tell you the coolant capacity & yes you should use a 50/50 mixture with distilled water. If you haven't opened the jug of coolant, you might want to consider a new product on the market at your local Toyota / Lexus dealer. It's a pink stuff called "super long life coolant" NOTE: NOT the red long life stuff.....the new stuff is pink. It's supose to last as long as the Prestone stuff but it's a Toyota prooduct so it should be good for your vehicle.......and probobly not much more expensive......don't forget to check how much you need! B)
  22. What kind of wipers did you install? Just courious. B)
  23. Do a search on here in the FAQ's & check some websites out like Kelly blue book and the like for vehicle values. Best advice in a nutshell is make sure you have detailed service records & that the car is "original" and not involved in a major accident. If you have a reliable mechanic, take the car to him/her for a thorough inspection before you buy. If the dealer or private seller has a problem with that, find yourself another car! B) Good Luck! & welcome to the club!
  24. That's awesome os! B) I'd love to see pics of your car....post them when you get a chance & welcome to the club! :)
  25. Outback steakhouse or Longhorn are my fav's! It is because I stayed out of very expensive restaurants that I able to afford my Lexus! lol ;)
