  1. Never had a problem thus far with my 01. B)
  2. It mostly applies to 02+ ES that are for the U.S. market & usually not the Canadian ES market as out emissions laws & regulations are different than the U.S. which means a different shift pattern. This is one main reasons many owners are frustrated with their tranny shifting problems. :(
  3. It explains all the 'neat' little features that are built into your ES. ;) It's worth it's weight in gold let me tell ya. Did you figure out the A/C situation? B)
  4. Not too many nicer cars out there one can use for real estate than a Lexus! ;) My Dad has asked me on several occasions (when he has an expensive listing appointment) to borrow my ES. B)
  5. I beleive 99 was the first 'model' year the RX first appeared SK, there was no actual 1997 OR 1998 RX 300. B)
  6. Depending on whether or not the last time those fluids you mentioned have been changed, I would get it all done (especially the engine coolant since your changing the TB & water pump). Consider using Toyota / Lexus 'new' Super Long Life engine coolant that is Pink in colour......it comes already 'pre-mixed' with a 55% Coolant & 45% distilled water mixture. It's good for 5 years or 150,000 miles if a complete flush is done & get 2 jugs at your local dealers parts department. As for the brake fluid, I think that year LS has DOT 3 fluid, but Valvoline has a brake fluid (synpower) that is good for both DOT 3 & 4 applications. If the plugs haven't been changed, I'd get them done too......use Iridium either NGK or Denso's. Good Luck! B)
  7. Not sure how much experence you have with winter driving (if you have lived in Florida all your life or not), but I would suggest several things......a really good set of winter tires or the VERY best all season tire you can get. Next, if your unfamiliar driving in snow & ice, take a 'professional' winter driving course to learn especially on your RWD GS. Failing that, consider trading your RWD Lexus in for an ES or AWD RX (or perhaps a 2006 AWD GS). B)

  9. I replaced the nozzles from my '01 ES with the ones from the '03 ES. The nozzle spray is much improved, more of a fan-type pattern and spreads out more than from the stock nozzles. You can get the newer nozzles by placing an order at the parts counter from your Lexus dealership. It doesn't cost that much, and it's a worthy and subtle mod :D ← Doug, what was the cost of those parts (roughly)? & was it easy to install or did the dealer do it? I have 3 'jet's' for each side of the windshield......which I think does a very good job in getting more than enough washer fluid on the windshield.......your saying this the current generation spray is that much better? B)
  10. Deville DTS is FWD & unibody. ;)
  11. Would we just die if the President showed up in a Lexus LS430 limo? :D Glad my articles are well liked vcv ......I hope most of them anyways lol. ;) B) I just wish I could post the damn pics of the car lol. :whistles:
  12. You mean the steering wheel is 'top dead center' now? when it was to one side after you had an alignment & wheels balanced? weird.....do you check all tire pressures and such? B)
  13. Yup that's normal for the A/C to be on when you hit the auto button. Yes it does use a bit of gas, but you can always turn it off when you fully defrosted the windows. I believe your owner's manual covers the climate control operation. ← Agreed! B) Imran, read your owners manual as to why it is on even in the winter......you will notice that is also comes on when you turn your defroster on. Owners manual explains everything. ;)
  14. Not 100% sure myself......why not call both a couple Lexus & Toyota dealers & get the exact part numbers for each to varify.....failing that, why not try TRD (Toyota Racing Development) brake pads? They will give better performance from what I have heard. B)
  15. I think you might have posted in the wrong forum by mistake friend. B)
  16. The Lexus dealer sounds like he's got what your looking for. Only other suggestion I have is try: www.weathertech.com B)
  17. As far as I know (with my 01 ES) the door locks do not lock automatically at all. You will have to lock them yourself. Check with your owners manual to confirm this (perhaps you can 'program' them, but I don't think so). If you don't have an owners manual, contact Lexus head office & order one (I beleive they are free!).......they are worth their weight in gold even for little things like this. B)
  18. January 18, 2005 New Presidential limousine reveals 2006 Cadillac DTS design Washington, D.C. - The jet-black Cadillac DTS limousine that will roll through the nation's capital during the Presidential Inaugural Parade, will reveal publicly for the first time the new design direction for the 2006 Cadillac DTS production model. George W. Bush will be the first to travel in the new Cadillac DTS limousine during the parade route along Pennsylvania Avenue on Thursday, January 20th. The sight of the president waving from a Cadillac has become an American tradition. "General Motors and Cadillac are proud to write this latest chapter in American automotive history with the introduction of the DTS presidential limousine," said General Motors Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner. "We are pleased that our historic relationship with the U.S. government and chief executive office has continued through the years." With a new design and unique construction under the skin, the new Cadillac DTS limousine is handcrafted and dressed in a jet-black clearcoat finish. The vehicle is a considerably longer, wider and taller version of the production model that becomes available later this year. To maintain national security, the limousines are equipped with state-of-the-art protection and communication systems. The vehicle interior boasts six-passenger seating with comfort and visibility for all occupants. A rear seat executive package features a concealed, foldaway desktop that can be deployed when conducting affairs of state. The rear seats have an adjustable reclining feature along with the adaptive seat system, which senses the position of the occupant in the seat and automatically adjusts the cushion for added comfort. Moreover, rear seat passengers can enjoy their own premium sound system complete with a 10-disc CD changer. Wood accents, rich blue leather and cloth complete the executive interior. An embroidered presidential seal is positioned in the centre of the rear seat back panel, as well as on each rear door trim panel. Presidential seals are also affixed to the exterior rear doors. The U.S. flag is placed on the right front fender, and the presidential standard is located on the left front fender when the president travels in the vehicle. Flush-mounted High Intensity Discharged (HID) spotlights illuminate the flags at night. The 2006 Cadillac DTS production model is set to make its first public appearance at the Chicago Auto Show in early February.
  19. Perhaps only the OE Lexus part will fit correctly?
  20. Agreed! No neons on a Lex :( :cries:
  21. What is your 98 equipped with? My 01 ES has 3 powerful jets PER side of the windshield (3 for drivers side & 3 for passenger side). It's like night & day compared to the weak 2 on each side that I had on my Maxima. B)
  22. Awesome! I just got the e-mail.....thanks! I will keep his name & number on file. B) My wife likes the memory feature on my ES as well.......when I let her drive it lol. :whistles:
  23. Once you have had a chance to put a few thousand clicks on your ES to see if it burns any oil or not (if it does, you might want to cinsider switching to a 10W30 grade since you have higher mileage). As for the gasoline, I use nothing but Sunoco Ultra 94 gasoline....I personally have tried the Sunoco regular 87....if you do the math on it, the mid-grade is a bad buy compared to the 94 so I never put the mid-grade in. Sunoco of all the big 4 gas companies (Shell, Esso, Petro-Canada & Sunoco) is by far the cleanest gasoline as they use Ethonol in their gas (which makes it a natural gas line anti-freeze) & has the lowest sulphur content PPM of all.....Esso is the absolute worst not matter which grade is used, followed by Petro Canada as the second worst. Any grade Sunoco is best for your car to burn & the environment. Not sure about the headlight issue you mention. You should however notice that when you leave the headlights on & shut the engine off, when you go to get out of the car, many other cars have an audible 'chime' or 'beep' that warns you that you left your lights on.......the ES does not & I believe after several minutes (not sure exactly how long) the car will shut the lights off automatically so not to run down the battery. B) Was the timing belt &/or water pump replaced yet do you know? ;) ← Right now, using a 5W30 for winter...considering also 0W40 as it's used extensively with german and japanese high performance cars..but will do more research as time goes on. As for oil burning, there is a slight bit of black inside the exhaust tailpipe...nothing major though...looks like regular longer term mileage caused it. For gas, yes I've always knows that Esso is the worst. Shell Gold isn't too though bad...94 Ultra is the best there is I know, however is it what this engine requires? I use Shell 'silver' in my 96' ES for god knows how long and had absolutely no issues whatsoever...but perhaps I should consider going back to Sunoco 94' eh? I used to have a 96'Prelude SR-V about 6 years ago (last of the true sporty model) and used sunoco 94' for that one as honda recommends it for high performance '4 bangers'. But for Lex? As for timing belt/water pump...no, not been replaced. That is the 1 service job that the previous owner did not do out of all of them! So I'm taking my car for service this or next week. I use a mechanic up in Markham...the owner used to be the head mechanic for Don Valley Lexus. Started his own shop many years ago and basically knows every single thing about Lex/Toyota. His rates are much cheaper than Lex or Toy anywhere. He fixes his cars based on finding the solution and fixing instead of just simply 'replacing' defective parts for new...as done at dealerships. Much cheaper overall and never seen another mechanic so meticulous with his work...he will not let your car leave unless he's fully satisfied that it's 100% fixed and never charges you for extra time even though he often spends way more on it than most would... ← nsarin, if you wouldn't mind (Brenden is my first name btw), could you give me the name, address & phone number of that shop in Markham & the owners name (I live on the Scarborough / Markham border at Mc Cowan & Steeles)? You can PM me or send all the info to my hotmail : Rivmaster91@hotmail.com Let me know how much an hour he charges for labour (I like to bring my own fluids when I have them changed as I get some of them wholesale). I'd appreciate it! B) sk, I have to check my owners manual about what you described.....thanks! B)
  24. Good advice...the dealer changed the oil just prior to me picking up the vehicle..but i brought my own synthtic oil and had him change it again...2 changes never hurt..helps flush it out! I always use synthetic for Lexus. For gas though, I'm varied on whether to use mid-grade or top gas...I never saw any improvement in gas mileage whatsoever btw the two... Also, when I turn the engine off I notice that I have to get out and hit the lock button 'twice' before the headlights turn off...I assume that's normal? Again, it will probably all be in the maintenance guide. Ciao! ← Once you have had a chance to put a few thousand clicks on your ES to see if it burns any oil or not (if it does, you might want to cinsider switching to a 10W30 grade since you have higher mileage).
